What's the title?
What's it about?
Can you post an excerpt?

That apartment is gross, and so is that woman.

Congrats. May I ask some question?
1. When did you start writing?
2. Did you read a lot when you were a child? And do you still read a lot?
3. How did you know it it was good enough to try and get it published?

gross image

It looks like one of her ass implants had a hole in it, and deflated.

OP, how'd you do it?

Alright you bastard who's /novelidea/ did you steal

Is it genre?
Is it the boring genre known as literary?
Is it about diversity?
Female pseudonym?

feel like such a prick but i really dont wanna give anything super specific away....entire book is in interview format? set in near-future dystopia etc
rude!
thanks!
1 sometime after college, early/mid-20s? was when i started writing fiction "seriously" like actually putting ideas down on paper, before that id only done some creative writing exercises in hs (rly late 20s now)
2 nope. i read some enid blyton & -adjacent shit as a kid but that barely counts. reading assignments for school..blah only got serious abt books in college. read tons and tons over a five year period. coming home w bags of books. nowadays not so much, wish i still had the time/appetite/curiosity of those years
3 i think its a good piece! some really basic writing advice is "write what u wanna read" and that reall worked for me, create the type of shit you cannot find anywhere else. trust your goofy ideas, its better than book #39259323 abt young aimless man contemplating life in the big city while listening to jazz or w/e
kinda corny advice but kept me going, prob wouldnt have finished it if not for the rather intense initial bursts of drafting tho. u better be ready when inspiration hits
yours :-)
1 no. i lost one of the guys who were interested b/c i wouldnt turn it into full scifi lol
2 i guess, sorry
3+4 no

Congrats, now you can kill yourself.

>rude!
Just messing around; I'd still smash if she's nice.
You're an inspiration, user. Keep it up.

Thanks! I think you linked the wrong post when replying user but I realized with the 1-3 question that it was mine you were replying to actually.
You give hope to an aspiring writer, we're all gonna make it!

its not cool to be gross looking in your twenties btw

It looks comfy at a quick glance but soon you realize how everything in this picture is gross

Congratulations, user. Finally we have someone successful in our midst.

Some questions:

How long have you been here?
Any favorite Yea Forums poster?
How old you are?

>question mark on a statement

Not interested.

>penguin press
which imprint?

thanks fellas
theres a funny story abt that picture
thanks but id hold it with the succesful part haha. first print hardcover runs are pretty expensive and it prob wont sell shit, i tried to make them go directly for paperback but they wouldnt budge. still excited tho

1 i came here in late 2012 or 2013 i think, used to hang out on Yea Forums. that board made me hate music. i only listen to creedence these days
2 there was a guy on here who used to write great takedowns of contemporary authors on here a couple of years back, reminded me of the "old school" internet when things werent so touchy. one junot diaz bit had me in tears. havent seem him around in a minute. and u gotta dig the pige poster(s) for sheer dedication. always puts a smile on my face
3 im 29 in november
pp is the imprint. pic related

I've been writing for 10+ years and finally have confidence in a 5th draft. I've been sending queries to agents and have only been getting rejections. Is this the path you went as well? Or did you query publishers? How was your experience?

Why do I ruin everything good I have

penguin press has four imprints
allen-lane and pelican are for non-fiction
penguin classics is for classics
particular books is for slightly off beat stuff

the only one the book you described could fit into is particular books. you have mentioned that if your story is true.

That's Penguin (Books) in general. "Press" is an imprint thereof. More an American thing I think

this, press itself is an imprint
permissions.penguinrandomhouse.com/imprints.php

congratulations user. i cut out agents completely after some unpleasant experiences. prob a stupid move and i realize that im insanely lucky to have gotten this far. every agent either rejected me or tried to steer me in weird ways that i felt werent beneficial to me, let alone the text
so i said fuck it.collected email and irl addresses of publishers for a long period, big and small ones. got rejections from 20-25 of them, no rpely from another 30+ but three were interested (other two were very minor). lot of work from hello to finished galley tho
fwiw before this i only had two published short stories (in zine tier mags) to my name. shit ones i might add
u feel that u dont appreciate the spoils that come 2 u. i was like u once. ive made some improvements since but my life is in many ways still a mess. try therapy, at least 2-3 diff ones
ur thinking of the british pp maybe

whats the funny story

The swimsuit is too small for her, ass

>set in near-future dystopia etc
so it's plebian trash

strange strategy user. i'm not sure i understand you completely, but so your manuscript got accepted directly by the press? or like someone that works there? i'm not really familiar with all the different imprints of penguin so i'm simply guessing that it's a pretty big publishing house since its associated with them, but they accepted your manuscript directly? i always figured you had to be like a sort of e-celeb with a prior following for that. if you could extrapolate a bit more on the process i'd appreciate it. i've kinda given up on mainstream presses and have been having short stories here and there published on websites i'm sure no one will ever read. mainly due to it seeming impossible to have anything unadulterated by current day politics to be published in the mainstream, but your experience seems to suggest otherwise?

im having my debut novel published by penguin press early next year ama

>entire book is in interview format
truly a meme worthy antic
good luck anyway, retard

>entire book is in interview format

Your brain is too small for your skull lol

If it wasn’t you’d literally die, they brain does not lay directly upon the skull, too much pressure = bad

I'd like to see your ass in a swimsuit

>has “artistic” photo taken with objective of challenging typical beauty standards
>looks like a fucking slag instead. probably is responsible for turning borderline /lit fags fully gay.

I was just about to switch to /gif so I could rub one out. Now, thanks to this horrendous display, my dick no longer works.

Pige posters?

It’s actuslly a dude, the dude at penguin he had to fuck to get the deal. Pretty funny huh

I'll keep a look out for it, and look forward to reading it.

Bumperino

t.small brain

Tell me about Bane! Why does he wear the mask?

i wash dishes at a lunch restaurant. my hands are fucked up

Butt hurt fly.
lol

Interesting how ugly chicks hate the pretty ones. They call their attempts to get the same sort of attention that QTs get automatically "challenging traditional standards of beauty" or some such nonsense. Like traps getting angry because real, non gay men won't pretend they are girls and somehow it is the fault of the normal, sexually healthy majority who by definition are simply not homosexual.

>entire book is in interview format
could not find a better way of exposition? where is the suspense coming from (if there is any)?
>near-future
2020?

based

Are you from Illinois?

The post which you replied to was pointing out the disgusting appearance of the pictured slag. Gross ass hanging out the sides of her thrifted one-peice bathing suit, dirty sandals, and an awkward stance were probably supposed to give the aura of "challenging traditional standards of beauty" but instead this notion fell completely flat on its face. A normal looking photo could have been taken of this woman, but would have only rendered a slightly above average appearance. Instead, she decided to use unconventional tactics to make herself more appealing than she actually is, and it ended up being laughable.

How woke is it? Any PoC characters?

>set in near-future dystopia
be me lurking on Absolute Write forum ten years ago. everyone on forum says
>dystopian novels are dead in the water, no publisher or agent will look at them!

I'm guessing you are female. Am I correct?

>those shoulders
>those feet
>positioning of feet
Sure that's a 'she'?

incel alert

I hope I write something one day... I'm in my mid twenties and have never written anything, despite that being the only thing I felt suited for.

posting to say I'm more impressed with the cute girl

1. That's a dude
2. Clearly someone taking the photo post coitus in the morning
3. Everyone here is about the authentic and the genuine then you see an actual slice of life photo and you're disgusted because a) this person didn't have sex with YOU and b) you've projected years of staged Instagram reality onto the context and are judging it from warped and twisted expectations

4. Kill your are selvfes

This guy is guaranteed bullshiting, deliberately being vague about the book details and claims to be getting published through a major publication without an agent.

>girl
Look more closely at those feet and the shape of those legs user. Or the straight back. That's a dude in a woman's bathing costume.

>How woke is it? Any PoC characters?
no explicitly written pocs, apart from lots and lots of asians. rest is up to the reader
wokeness factor.....dunno. i didnt put anything particularly offensive in there, not in the early drafts or the finished thing. but i kept the 'culture WAr' stuff to a minimum, if thats what u mean (ie of the sort you see on twitter every day. repeated exposure to that shit fries your brain real quick
>>dystopian novels are dead in the water, no publisher or agent will look at them!
"near-future" is key here. its basicaly the world were in now but worse off; poorer, dirtier, noisier, more crowded, more useless technology, more zillion step password recovery programs etc........no flyin cars

get writing fren. i know its hard to start putting letters on a blank page, u want first work to be spectacular but. it rarely is
got any big ideas rolling around ?i have a couple "saved" for when im feeling ready for them, i think thats ok. rookie writers always get the advice that your first idea/concept will 100% guaranteed be awful and u shouldnt hang on to it, but fuck em
a while back i started writing short stories based on dreams id been having, as exercises. i tried gathering key bits after waking up and whipped up a couple of pages over the course of a day or two. some of em were pretty decent! just a tip if ur coming up empty, ideas-wise

i like to write dialogue! regular old storytelling didnt do it for me this time around, i tried it in a later draft and it was terrible and i almost abandoned the whole thing. but im not straying too far rly. its told sorta like heart of darkness, just with multiple narrators
suspense is 80>% between characters only, albeit with weather and terrorism in the bg
>2020?
lil bit furhter on down the road
its a girl

will answer more posts in a sec
