The pain of chronic romantic rejection is totally understandable. What is harder to sympathize with is the violent misogyny that curdles over from these rejections. What's most pathetic about some incels is their covetousness of unobtainably beautiful women. Eliot Rodger is the quintessential example of this pathetic immaturity and arrested development.
Many people, perhaps the majority, experience romantic rejection in their lifetimes. Some just have bad luck, with their lack of success saying more about those who rejected them than it does themselves.

It's good for incels to get therapy, so they can work out the critical distortions of their self-images that hold them back in life. There's someone for (almost) everyone.

In this, I am not describing the stereotypical incel, the rabid mysogynist like Rodger, but rather the actual incel - the computer-using, reclusive introvert who is the main denizen of imageboards. Accusations of being an incel slide off him, because he in his mind does not see himself as an incel - rather, he voluntarily gave up on women because of their shallowness and sinful nature. He has never pursued women. Urging therapy is completely pointless, because he has built up an idealized persona within his head. This idealized persona can do no wrong, and society's rejection of it merely fuels his own rejection of society. To him, the sexually and socially adapt man, the man who goes clubbing and moves in all the right social circles, is a figure of contempt, not admiration, and the idea of taking any steps to become what "society wants him to become" is like urging a religious fanatic to stop taking their faith so seriously.

Often his religious views (typically vague and unfounded, more an attraction or compulsion than genuine faith) bolster this idea, creating a sense that the sexually successful, outgoing man is a sinner and of-this-world, as opposed to the pure not-of-this-world saint that is the incel's ideal persona.

The simple answer is that narcissism is incurable, because the narcissist does not see a problem with himself. As the Bible says, the sin against the Holy Spirit, the only sin that cannot be forgiven, is the belief that there is no sin to be forgiven in the first place. So it is with the incel's attitude towards society. Society is corrupt, and the opposition from society to the incel only fuels his alienation as proof of its inherent corruption.

See also the True Believer, for an example of how they are drawn to fanatical movements either societal or religious. A human is a social creature. If they aren't integrated into one society, they will eventually find acceptance into another. And the movements they gravitate towards are those that have abandoned eros and therefore embraced thanatos as their guiding principle.

And the conflict between eros/thanatos can be seen in the euphemism "have sex". Social media reduces philosophies and psychologies to soundbites. "Have sex" is the acknowledgement that those who engage in life-giving activity - and sex is, at the root, a life-affirming, creative endeavor - are antithetical to the death wish of the suicide, the fanatic, and the apogee of the suicidal fanatic symbolized in the mass shooter and the terror bomber. "Have sex" is merely the plea to reject the death drive, to engage in life, rather than becoming a personified avatar of death.

Personally I think the introduction of modern birth control has had a primary role in the destruction of natural sexual relations. For women sex is fully disconnected from childbearing. The mass inclusion of women in the workforce for example, would not be possible without their sexual disconnection from childbearing.
