Actually it's kind of necessary if you want to understand such an old text. The conceptual and linguistic distance makes it possible so skew any interpretation. So you get a shifting religion authority that speaks for a book rather than a book that speaks for itself.

That's kind of the fault of early Christians for not valuing their teacher's words enough to preserve them verbatim and untranslated. Otherwise you could simply do what Muslims do, which is use poetry to help. In Sharia court, matter of law are arguing using Arabic poetry either contemporary or prior to the Qur'an (poetry written after Muhammad died is inadmissible) in order to show definition of terms, idioms, cultural references, etc. In this way we have been able to preserve the meaning of the text for so long
A common text? But the King James *version* is based on the Textus Recepticus and the Masoretic Text. The former is not used for contemporary translations and the latter was not established until a thousand years after Christ

No, it can’t entertain satire, or endure humiliation. To be Muslim is to either be strong, resolute, and proud or to be a hypocritical worm. It gives little opportunity for redemption and makes the weak within it pathetic. In the west it allies with blasphemy when convenient and hides its nature from the larger culture for fear of rejection. This makes expression, literary or otherwise, difficult unless done from a secular viewpoint (reducing the religion’s influence on a work) or from a theological standpoint (which forces one to work solely from and within the Quran, as it is believed to be the actual and complete word of god).
