Be honest

How many of you read philosophy because you're genuinely interested in it, and how many of you actually have no interest and just force yourself to read it because you're insecure, desperately looking for even a shred of affirmation in your life and you think by talking about Hegel people will praise you and think you're smart

Why can't it be both?

I read for both of those reasons, I'm proud of myself for all the difficult ideas I've managed to graps and I have the ability to impress retarded normies with basic citations.

I've been reading philosophy since I was 13, user. My gf pretty much goes to sleep whenever I go on one of my infamous tangents. I'm not doing it to get praise, in fact usually they tell me to stop

I'm a shut-in neet si i don't talk with anybody irl.
I read philosophic works only out of curiosity.
But it probably was still a worthless endeavor, even though it wasn't fueled by vanity.

Little of column A, little of column B (minus the social insecurities, I read Hegel to assuage metaphysical confusions).

>tfw you actually like philosophy
>tfw you are actually reading the Phenomenology in your spare time
>tfw all your friends make fun of you for it
>tfw it only got you laid 1.5 times
>tfw literally no one irl is interested in my hobbies

I'm so insecure, my gf laughs at me behind my back and fucks hegel chads while I'm at work. They have orgies after heated debates and discussions. They have sexual hierarchies they build up in the debate and then demolish them in dionysian orgies. Sometimes my gf is a sex slave of some Chad sometimes she runs everything. I'm only on Aristotle but I just want my gf back

I am in the same boat except I have no gf :(

Philosophy is the only thing that makes me happy and the only reason I'm still alive. Every time I get sad I remember that humanity is still in the first foundering stages of learning the nature of the cosmos. I'm old now and I have no high school or college buddies to impress so I don't give a fuck what people think about the fact that I read Hegel. 3-4 nights a week I go for 8-hour walks with another old guy who nobody gives a fuck about either, and we talk about philosophy in the same way two scientists working on a problem and coming up with new results and possibilities every day would talk about it.

The only guarantee of friendship like that is shared interest in something objectively important. You can have it with hobbies too, but only with people who are so passionately dedicated to their craft that they tacitly take it to be objectively important. Getting old happens fast so you should try to become interested in objective reality instead of remaining a passive consumer throughout your whole youth.

how do you only get 1/2 laid

If u have boyfriend they just fuck u more to put u in ur place

only read it because I'm interested in it. The only way I can mention philosophy irl and keeps people's attention is to omit who its from and just talk about the underlying idea

I like reading philosophy and am interested in reading it, but let’s be honest most philosophical works aren’t exactly page turners (and that’s not a bad thing). What do you want me to be on the edge of my seat reading Plato talk about forms?

I couldn't keep it up

Sounds epic user I want a cutie bf to coldly listen to me rant about philosophy and literature and then to tell me to shut up and fuck me silly.

That's actually pretty hype, if it's not interesting you should find an application

Yep that’s a yikes from me. Was the other person disgusting?

Yeah or his friends lol be treated like a queen lol

a lot more ass hair than I was expecting

Who gaf get over ur meme slang and be a person

Just have them blow u wen u get low or go to shower it comes back up, cuddling if you're not a cold robotic psychopath spoiler like me lol

It’s definitely interesting but I’m not exactly watching a thrilling movie or something. It peaks my interest and keeps the philosophical fire inside me fed, but if I wanted something I just couldn’t put down I would read fiction. I actually put philosophy down a lot in order to reflect on what I’ve been reading and fully understand it to the best of my abilities.

Do u ever run into jealousy w ppl who r really into the same craft or how do u deal w that?

Yeah definitely it's way more engaging it gets exhausting, especially coming up w an application you don't think anyone has come up w yet

see
I literally did get her to blow me and get me hard, lost it again when she bent over. still felt emasculated; neither of us were into it after that

Grow tf up

You can make fun of her or something and treat her like dog shit

This

she mogged me with that ass hair; I mean I'm a hairy guy and she put me to shame

I derive personal pleasure and enjoyment from learning and studying philosophy. If I could tell no one what I read, I still would read and find philosophy interesting.

Are you saying you were impressed?

I think philosophy as itself is worthless, yet remarkable combined with other sciences

normies dont give a fuck about philosophy unless you say some bull shit that affirms there beliefs and makes them feel good, god for bid you seek an actual discussion with them on anything more complex than 'life has no meaning' or 'god is dead' they just get bored and tell you they dont care about your cringe ass rants that very few people would even care to try and understand

kek

how evr using the vocabulary obtained in philosophy to create wildly outlandish and over analytical comparisons on obscure trends or systems with a tone of self aware absurdist is great for drawing out laughs from people who dont have the faintest idea of what your saying

I read philosophy partly because I find it interesting and I love history, and partly becasue I’m desperately searching for a shred of meaning in life.

It's a lot of this but I will never read Hegel. It's so obviously bullshit.

I am autistic and don't care about praise from brainlets. I read because I appreciate the thoughts of philosophers and other great men.

I started reading philosophy cause a friend of mine was like "lol look at me I read Marx and Nietzsche im so cultured and smart."

So I read em and realized my friend was just checking out books without reading em just to look smart and cultured.

I think its 20%former and 80%latter for the average guy

>by talking about Hegel people will praise you and think you're smart
I don't were you are from, but no one knows about Hegel.
I'm looking to get closer to the truth.
It's also the ego, knowing that you'll read something no one has read and understood. That you are somehow de facto some sort of elite.

E.G: I began using Linux because i wanted to be some sort of elite.
In the end, i didn't regret it at all, and it's undeniably for the best. Probably same thing with Hegel.

It's both. Depends on who I read. I mostly read to learn new things or to learn how to better cope with life. Of course a bit of insecurity and the like plagues me too.

>men
so you are an insecure incel?

>
>Yeah or his friends lol be treated like a queen lol

I started listening to a lot of Dream Pop & Shoegaze cause of a girl I started dating and going concerts with, but I feel like Im suddenly dropping testosterone af
