i think having a language that is completely devoid of grammar and syntax as your mother tongue hampers your ability to appreciate anything other than a needlessly large vocabulary (half of which is borrowed directly from french anyway)

English uses too many small words to say what could be said in a few long words. I only know French, and they have a lot more declensions that English. More inflections = less words needed

It's pretty common to see how native English speakers struggle to undersand simple grammatic/syntactic rules of whatever language they are learning. No wonder why most English speakers never become fluent in other languages.
