Have you looked into Orthodox Christianity? Frithjof Schuon was a close colleague of Guenon who recommended Orthodoxy quite highly.

It's really the best way to have a personal relationship with God imo, a personal God who is both transcendent and immanent in the world. Islam's concept of God is quite impersonal, more like a law giver/judge but not willing to enter the world, never expressing authentic love for man, always distant, and his forgiveness is quite arbitrary, a muslim can't have much confidence in his own salvation. etc...
I'd recommend reading the New Testament and The Philokalia and just researching our Church Fathers and Saints. That helped me a lot.

I'm an American who grew up secular. I had long been interested in Catholicism, but given the corrupt nature of the church and the dilution of its practices, I have decided against converting. I've always thought that Catholics had the most robust philosophy and theology, ancient and modern, but perhaps I'm overstating their case and underestimating their compatibility with other forms of Christianity. I just don't really know what to do when even modern Catholics like Ed Feser are starting to lean towards sedevacantism when the whole point of the Catholic Church is that there's one apostolic church headed by the Pope in Rome to the exclusion of others. I also don't understand how serious, intelligent, and moral Catholic thinkers can tolerate the leadership of the Catholic Church either. I could continue rambling on and on because I've taken in so much information, yet I am no better off than when I started with religion.
