Yet it isn't, why?
This board could be good
It's a board on 4channel.org
It's supposed to be a creative board and it's treated mostly as an interest board.
No one knows what brings consciousness about. We presume all fully-formed humans have it. But why did we evolve it? Has any other life form we know of got it? Why did we evolve it? Why did it evolve? Why did humans evolve consciousness? What is it about consciousness that made those who possessed it more likely to have children than those who did not? We know it is possible to receive data, to make decisions, etc. without being conscious of it. Robots do it. Humans do it. What is the advantage for humans of having the ability to be conscious? If there is no particular evolutionary advantage to being conscious, that implies that consciousness is an emergent quality. Those things for which there was a particular evolutionary advantage we gained, and in their culmination consciousness as we know it emerged.
Main reason is that people just aren't talking about books anymore. Just politics and religion mostly. The books they do talk about are shit because the snobs are being pushed out. There were two Harry Potter threads today. Yea Forums is dying a slow and undignified death.
It was good.
Why:
-Anonymous cult
-Polfags not permabanned
-r9k fags not permabanned
-Christian (and Christian LARPing) and their obsession with semen.
And other assorted spooks
Because most of us know fuck all about almost everything that's discussed here and when we do actually know something we're drowned out by everyone else.
Yea Forums needs more active janitors. Those religion/politics threads last way too long. They usually disappear within an hour of my reporting them. Makes me think I'm the only one who even bothers.
The real answer is dirty dumb subhuman tripfags.
I'm thinking of writing my undergrad honors thesis on my theory on this
>more censorship
reddit might be what you're looking for
>no structured discussion
>no clear set of rules
>not enough active jannies to enforce rules
Anything good written on the idea? I made the jumps
>what is the evolutionary advantage of consciousness
>potentially no reason
>if so, consciousness is an emergent property from those things which do have evolutionary advantages
as I wrote desu
Yea Forums might not be for you
Americans and too much politics
guys, guys,
instead of fighting over which website we ought to browse, maybe we should just kill ourselves?
i like the political discussions here
They go wild, simply wild, over me
Though I've never done them harm that I can see
could =/= should
>doesn't mention fanatical Nietzsche worshippers
We good to go girls
‘Twas my plan all along! *gneg gneg gneg*
The board is too fast and takes bait too easily. No one wants to spend 20 minutes writing a long thoughtful on-topic post that no one will read because it’s easier to reply to threads like i hate niggers books for this feel what am i in for why can’t women write have sex
Stop making low-effort replies to those types of threads. Even replies like ’not Yea Forums’ or ’shit thread’ will encourage them. Just don’t fucking reply.
The IQ of a site tends toward the population mean as its traffic gets sufficently huge.
>Anything good written on the idea
Blindsight by Peter Watts is the only fiction book that I know of that talks about this. There was also that exurb1a book, but that doesn't count.
As far as phil is concerned, there's a ton. Hume & Descartes are prerequisites to learning philosophy of mind. Mostly you should read contemporary stuff. Chalmers is great. Dennet is a hack, but still influential. Searle is wrong about literally everything, but you have to read him, because everyone reads him. Turing's papers are surprisingly interesting, even if they ignore consciousness. Penrose exists.
Just so we are clear the things I listed don't talk about consciousness from an evolutionary stand-point exclusively, but many of them touch the idea somewhat. Even those who don't are good starting points.
>why did we evolve it
Because we are a daughter universe striving to survive nothingness passed on from our mother universe. Nature tends towards self-consciousness to reach this goal.
too much bigotry
You’re too new, but the board had lots of names and trips in the beginning. Good people some of them. Read a lot of books.
shut the fuck up
Reddit invasion
Shit mods
Shit jannies
You lower the level of conversation every time You show up.
>”Shut the fuck up.” He bumped, “Don’t reveal the secret!”
>You’re not supposed to tell the truth!!! This is trolling board! Troll posting ON-LEEEEEEEYY REEEEEEEEEE
Because the fundamental principle of Yea Forums, immediacy getting the most recognition, stands completely opposed to the fundamentals of effective literary discussion.
Normally I'd tell a tripfag to go live a prolonged battle with cancer for five years and then die very painfuly. But this is right, I don't think people should be permabanned though, maybe let them have a containment thread.
Because the people that post here often don't read, and the people that post here rarely do read, so effortposts are rare. At least we still have some. It takes a lot of time to become well read, and every second spent here is not a second spent towards that.
Drumpf is dead
