What is the purpose of this society? Is the point of everyone collectively working towards living longer so that we can continue to work on living longer? I get why this would create meaning for the >0.1% of people who are scientists or engineers working on the big questions of the day but what of the cleaners, cooks, etc who are told that they should sacrifice vice for good of the cause. From a materialist point of view, most people in the western world already have more than enough to be happy (shelter, ample food, access to healthcare, affordable entertainment, relative freedom, etc), why should we sacrifice our freedom and vice (by the sounds of it) for the sake of a new normal which would bring no meaningful benefit other than being a more efficient worker.
His understanding of the economics of resource allocation is also very poor. The reason free market economies dominate command markets is that modern production is too complex for anyone to efficiently predict.
