Why do you have the speech pattern of a loli?

all I know is you called somebody gay

对不起,Lo siento, Sorry, I don't speak pointless/dead languages

half of this is wrong gibberish, go read a book faggot

I bought the book the other day, but it hasnt arrived yet. maybe ill do a thread once I've read it.

Is this shit really good i just watch the first episode and it just look like a generic autist young male meet wacky "pure" girl on a wacky aesthetic animation also they can't stop talking

I have low hopes for Yen Press; it's the sort of prose that you probably need to revive Arthur Waley for, or at least get the Japanese equivalent of Edgar Snow.

The romance is not even the focus, its sidelined the entire show, trust me and continue to watch it. The show is easily a top 5 for me.

Okay, thanks, will try it again

What's Yen Press have to do with it?

Just watch the first 3 episodes to see if it's your cup of tea or not. It's not about the romance, it's the structure you need to watch out for.

Thought you were talking about the translation for Yoru wa Mijikashi Aruke yo Otome coming out this month.

Sauce me up for that one

I've only read 夜行. I kind of liked it, but I got lost near the end. Any recommendations?

No I was talking about the book in OP's picture, 四畳半神話大系

Bought the english translation of Penguin Highway for my brother since he's a big weeb who loves tatami galaxy and it was the only English translation of his work at the time.
Anyone read it? How is it?

the appeal is the wacky aesthetic animation and the fact that they don't stop talking

his early work is quite literary, but falls apart later on.

t. fag who learnt japanese to read dazai

I loved the show, but the book hasn't been transalted. I'm wary of fan translations, especially for literature. Are there any you'd recommend?
I loved the show and I don't really like anime. Fast talking is part of the appeal, however. The lead always talks like he's writing a stream of consciousness novel, which I like. The one problem is there's fucking nobody to talk to about it if you like it.

Why does his stuff not get english translations?

>助詞を省くと上手に見えるぞ
お前も/djt/を出るにはまだ早いんじゃない?

Because you and everyone else that'd read them would pirate it, unlike normie isekai autists, of which a small subgroup is actually retarded enough to buy merch

I like reading physical copies though. This just forces my hand to piracy.

almost everyone on Yea Forums has seen it (and liked it for the most part).
and i'm sure most people who watch anime that have a shred of taste have watched it, so there are a lot of people to discuss it with.
also you have this thread

speaking of japanese lit, has anyone read any of the monogatari light novels?
i started reading kizu and i'm not sure if the translator was off, or if i had to get used to the style, but it didn't feel right.

無礼な発言なら助詞要らねえ

I guess I just have shit luck when posting there then, everytime I bring it up it just gets ignored. It had such a unique artstyle and visual direction, the first show in a long time that seemed to fully take advantage of the medium of animation.

yeah, the director of the show is an absolute legend. you should definitely check out the other shows he's made,
i highly recommend ping pong the animation, it's an insanely executed Yea Forums coming of age (i guess) story revolved around ping pong with art style and direction referencing the source material.

will check it out, thanks. I watched Night Is Short, which I kinda liked, but felt kinda pointless ultimately. Ping Pong seems cool though.

still haven't seen Night Is Short, is that the tatami prologue?

Penguin Highway came out before; Yoru wa Mijikashi Aruke yo Otome will be releasing on 13 August.

Ping Pong is fantastic, especially if you've never read/watched any of its iterations. A classic in manga, and for good reason, with some of Yuasa's touchstone animation style, of which I'm admittedly a fanboy of.

To keep things Morimi, I'd love to be able to give this a read, as from watching the anime I definitely got a hint of the air of Murakami OP mentions. Modern Japanese urban magical realism, kinda neat.

It isn't (I thought so initially as well). The two leads look nearly identical to Watashi and Akashi, but are totally different characters. It takes place in the same universe though, as eggplant-face guy and his gf (been a while since I watched the show) are in the movie, and do play themselves. If you've ever seen the 3 mini-episodes of Tatami Galaxy, Night Is Short takes a lot of ideas from them oddly enough.
It's still a lot of fun and the animation is great, but don't go into it looking for explicit ties to Tatami. Enjoy it for what it is, and when you notice a reference, enjoy that as well.

If Kafka made an anime, I think it would be like Episode 10 of Tatami Galaxy

most german post on lit right now

cheers, can't wait to see it, also thanks to for reminding me that i've forgotten to watch this movie

Just found a good fan translation, reading now. Is pretty good, no big surprise there. Wish there was a translation of eccentric family too.

Bumpin'

Whose is it?
