So I just finished reading the Bible. Ready to move onto the Dictionary. Which edition should I read?

No use reading what you already know. Stick with this one.
What are you talking about? Nobody reads the dictionary cover-to-cover.
yeah a dictionary is used for looking up words you don't know if you encounter them in ordinary reading. to even consider reading the dictionary in full is simply ridiculous.
so anyway senpai, when were you first diagnosed with asperger's?
Well, I would say nobody should read the Bible cover-to-cover either but everyone here insists that it is a necessary part of a proper education. If that's a good enough reason to read a massive tome of a book (BorgessOscillatingInGrave.gif) then surely there is more to learn from the Dictionary
You got a point there. christards BTFO
You after reading the dictionary listen to the audiobook.

Fuck, you are actually on to something. But to be fair to the brobel it is comprised of multiple stories rather than just random tidbits of advice and rules
Read "A Dictionary of the English Language" by Samuel Johnson. It starts off kind of dry but once you get into it its pretty riveting. I'm on the "G" section. Just learned the etymology of "galvanize" ngl I'm enjoying the read, people should read dictionaries more often, somehow its both comfy and passionate.
>Samuel Johnson
Holy shit. its the guy from the meme!
I've got a Oxford dictionary from 1991 that is kinda comfy to read pages from occasionally. Never really thought about reading Johnson's dictionary though. Boswell's Life of Samuel Johnson is also a comfy read.
Let's stop beating around the bush. It's OED or nothing.
Not a good analogy at all. The bible at least, despite your edgy beliefs, has enormous merit in both philosophy and literature. Even if you are a Buddhist, the bible has plenty of stories and allegories that can apply to anyone. Also, if you decide to talk against the bible, you at least want to have the decency to have studied and read it before discussing it. Going into an argument without ever have read the opposing text is pretty amateur and extremely indecent
>Which edition should I read?
The American Heritage Dictionary
I will give you the same answer atheist use when talking about the Bible: none.
Unless you're going to be some kind of rapper or some shit given poetry is long dead, you shouldn't be wasting your time reading a book that you will forget their definitions in less than a week after reading it entirely.
Instead, master the Trivium and read The Chicago Manual; this will be much more useful for the entirety of what's left of your life than reading a whole dictionary.
Else, but get these at your local library.

But why should the whole Bible be read then? What is gained by reading ALL of the bible rather than the influential parts?

>has enormous merit in both philosophy and literature
Truly an overrated work.
but can one really set the bar higher when people kill each other over holding the bar?
I'm telling you to dismiss anyone who thinks the bible is the bar. They don't discuss it for its value is no found by discussing but by holding it ready to smash some zealots' heads.

>Not a good analogy at all.
Well it better not be, its not an analogy brainlet
> The bible at least, despite your edgy beliefs, has enormous merit in both philosophy and literature.
>The dictionary has no philosophical or Literary information
I just learned the words anthroposophy and axiology. This is your brain on dogma
>Even if you are a Buddhist, the bible has plenty of stories and allegories that can apply to anyone.
So does the Pali Canon. What is your excuse for not reading it then?
>Also, if you decide to talk against the bible, you at least want to have the decency to have studied and read it before discussing it. Going into an argument without ever have read the opposing text is pretty amateur and extremely indecent
I said at the beginning of the thread that I DID read it. That's how I know its mostly full of garbage like the measurement of a temple and a palace and a several-page long Jewish census. Maybe you're the one that needs to read the Bible, or literally anything at all.
