Anyone else cringe when they see people reading physical books in public? Especially on crowded public transport, when reading on your phone/kindle is much more efficient.

I can highlight passages, make notes, and search the dictionary all in a few taps of my thumb.

Why aren’t you doing this? Status signaling, no?

Reasons not to read on a phone
>Distractions
>Lower retention
>Wrist cramps
>Eye damage
>Too many books to choose from you'll never end up finishing one
>Get stuck browsing Yea Forums instead of reading
Now kill yourself

>reading books on your phone

Cause like gamers prefer physical copies of their games, I prefer physical books. Physical is nice when I don't have power, no internet, or I am somewhere away from my desktop. And I know I own my books. Plus some just look really good at home.

My phone will be stolen, a book won't

anyone else cringe when they see some bespectacled neckbeard squint at their phone trying to read?

I cringe when I see people reading books on anything else than an actual book

based. I never, NEVER worry about leaving my books out in public.

what about having a kindle on the side to use as a dictionary?

You do know there are free dictionary apps for your phone, don't you?

>he doesn’t bring a full set of commentaries, dictionaries, and historical background volumes along with the selected book he’s reading

>he doesn’t bring a full set of commentaries, dictionaries, and historical background volumes along with the selected book he’s reading
Not while I'm outside, no.

I do, but I abstain from the use of smart phone tech. I've observed the trend from the outside (blackberry style phone was last upgrade I got) since flip key board phones. I've seen what it does to people. the convinence is not worth it.

shit...c-can you teach me the way...master?

>owning a phone
unethical + unenjoyable reading experience
>owning a kindle
unethical + unenjoyable reading experience
Wait, what was your argument again? Why would I do something that is worse both morally and practically?

I guess you live in the US
where I live there are more people reading books than people on their phones tbdesu

>ethics
>moral
Look at this cuck

Kindles are superior in every single practical and ethical measure.

Idk I always buy physical copies because it puts me in the mindset of “I bought this object” and therefore further compels me to read. And I get to fully focus on this one book

Screens distract me too much and I could just download pdfs and shit online so

Stop reading without knowing what the hell you are reading about

>Physical is nice when I don't have power, no internet
You don't need either, as the books are stored in the reader, and and it can hold charge for 2+ weeks of all-day reading.

>And I know I own my books.
You "own" the electronic copies once pirated, too.
>Plus some just look really good at home.
Pseud.

Phone readers should just KYS. But they'll be blind by in 10 years anyway, almost as good.

Frankly, kindle is awkward to use for anything else than reading. Dictionary and highlights for selected passages? Sure. But as general translation device, phone is far more convenient (just take a photo of stuff to translate).

Pretty much. People harping at kindle are usually just normies too lazy to pimp it - ie load it with 10k books from the general genre, and then just use it as a portable library. The only downside is contrast, but hey, at least it forces me to go out more.

When I'm in season I take my books for class or books im studying with me so I can go over material and get work done where otherwise I would be doing nothing staring off into space like everyone else

only someone obsessed with signaling status cares about or notices other people status signaling

oh its not that. ever since I tried studying the bible seriously a long time ago I realized that you can get a lot of nuance from re-reading sentences with the words alternate meanings. Not sure why I enjoy it so much, but it feels like I get alot more out of books by taking extra time to re-read with a dictionary along side it.

agreed, but I enjoy taking more time to do the things I enjoy and don't mind going through extra steps. compared to when I used carry a physical dictionary, a kindle is considerably more convienient.

I used to carry physical copies of books around in highschool because the teachers would go berserk if you had an electronic device in class but didn't care if you read during their lecturing. Anymore I mostly just read on my laptop, highlighting text, being able to define a word instantly, and not thinking of the book in terms of the distance of a scrollbar rather than number of pages is useful

Based, I wish I were as strong as you. Unfortunately if you people will avoid contacting you these days if you don’t have iMessage
