I have one of these, and it’s my greatest regret. You could train a dog to do accounting.
I retined as an accountant in 2 months because I couldn't get a job with my arts degree
cyclic employment
You missed the most based and redpilled of all degrees, film.
>based and redpilled
Use normal descriptive terms. This is not a proper way of describing anything. Join the Meme Jihad, brother.
Hello, I am unfamiliar to the meme Jihad, please tell me more, I would maybe like to join.
You have to join, it's the only way to save this board. The discourse on this site has totally degenerated due to the excessive profusion of memes. We must get rid of all of them. They contribute nothing of value, and lower our thinking capacities significantly.
Join the Meme Jihad.
Communication is Yea Forums major, amiright? Hunter Thompson and DFW were a journalist!
Stop posting Wojaks. It's a stupid and childish joke that only an developmentally challenged individual would find amusing. You should make a sincere effort to become more mature and join the currently ongoing Meme Jihad.
>grading things by how easily you can get ‘jobs’.
Yea Forums is really populated by pre-employment undergrads isn’t it? :3
I’m hoping that I’ll be able to stop being an accountant in a few years. It’s the only thing that keeps me going at this point.

Even if I suspect this might be a joke, I agree with this ideology. Memes are too simple to convey deep information, even though they can help on smaller scale. And they're way too saturated, overexposed and mainstream. It would be a shame to keep this cancer within our literate minds for longer.
Meme Jihad : on. Thank you for enlightening me.
The old world had real, creative jokes...
Bullshit. Every single thing ever done or made has literature written about it.
My suggestion? Read Game Theory, Wolfram, and en.m.wikipedia.org
That’s what I’d do if I had more time. Have you even read The Theory of Games and Economic Behavior? You’d love it?
Plus there are all those books like Simulacra and Simulation. Yeah... fuck no, computer science is THE most literature intensive shit. Just not focused on any of the inane fiction bullshit this population on Yea Forums focuses on these days. (Gayyyyy)
:3
Physics is the most advanced and important science but biology and chemistry are overlooked for the benefits they provide humanity with because physicists like to dab on chemists and biologists
It has some element of humor to it, of course, but I am completely serious. I have felt this way for a while, and realize that now is the time to act. We have to take a hard line of action in order to preserve this board. Memes are a cancer that is destroying our vitality.
>Mathematics
A good working knowledge of statistics, averages, probabilities, functions and basic arithmetic is a huge help in analysing the world around you. Beyond that into super abstract theory I think there's diminishing returns.
>Physics
>Chemistry
>Biochemistry
Again, a good working knowledge is useful to understanding the world around you but it's diminishing returns the deeper you get into which enzyme helps digest which protein and blah blah who cares.
>Biology
A good basic understanding of biology is useful for maintaining good health and diet.
>Mechanical Engineering
I guess it's good if you want to be a mechanical engineer.
>Electrical Engineering
I guess it's good if you want to be an electrical engineer.
>Chemical Engineering
I guess it's good if you want to be a chemical engineer.
>Software Engineering
I guess it's good if you want to be a software engineer.
>Computer Science
With the world becoming increasingly computerised, and more and more of modern life taking place online, a good understanding of computer science concepts is important in being informed on the world around you.
>Statistics
An understanding of statistics will help you interpret information you see in the news, poll data, books etc.
>Economics
>Psychology
>Sociology
An understanding of these topics is very important for understanding why people, countries, organisations, businesses, societies etc. act in the way they do
>Philosophy
Philosophy is key for understanding the questions not answered by the above. i.e. not "why do they act that way" but everything else. "is it good they act that way? who makes that judgement? what does good even mean? who gets to decide that?" etc
>English
English is form we use to think and express our thoughts so understanding it better will only increase your thinking range and ability
>Business Administration
It may teach you how to get a managment position at a company, if that's what's important to you
>Finance
It may teach you how to get a finance position at a company, if that's what's important to you
>Accounting
It may teach you how to get a accounting position at a company, if that's what's important to you
>Marketing
It may teach you how to get a marketing position at a company, if that's what's important to you
>Communications
Our complex communication system is what seperates us from other animals and allows our complex society to be possible, and it is not possible to properly understand society without studying human communication and how it changes and how this is reflected in society.
What's an "English" degree, exactly...? Seems vague. Why isn't it valued?
(I don't live in an English country)
Too much STEM bias itt
Of the things listed in the OP, what two would be the best double major combo?
Depends on how you’re thinking about mathematics.
I think there are as yet things to be discovered in the realm of the ‘harmonic ratio’ (which Nicomachus, Appollonious, and Alhacen among others expanded on considerably) and various sorts of Game Theory- related ideas to be explored mathematically that could help explain certain aspects of society very well and lead to economic and sociological developments (psst that ARENT Communism, for the retards)
mathematics and philosophy
I agree, my friend. Youtube practically qualifies "funny loud videos" as "memes", and that was when I thought, "well, that's just some mindless mass entertainment" and have felt that way for a long time too. Redpill, bluepill, cringe, based and such expressions hardly mean anything anymore since they've become fluent in groups and representations.
Because you really should only go to college for STEM, their the most useful sectors to work in for the entirety of humanity and they always will be
I would surely combo philosophy with literature. These go hand-in-hand and I am very passionate about them. Of course, landing on a good school can make a critical difference between interesting and dog-shit, but you get me.
The best thing you can do now is that whenever you see someone post mindless memes, just point out intelligently and clearly that they are behaving like idiots and ruining the board. Eventually you will get through to them, because it is obvious you are being sincere and correct. We all know deep down that these memes are ruining us. It's time to do something about it.
Either philosophy and mathematics or philosophy and physics.
philosophy and mathematics retard
Make a new thread for this chief, I'm with you 100%. Let's put a recommended "meme jihad" reading chart together.
Yes. I never thought this day would come... I'm proud of not being alone on this.
What about linguistics?
I'm not even sure what books you could put on such a chart. But if you have ideas I'm open to hear them. I will make a thread but it will probably get deleted. The Meme Jihad will live on though.
The time has come, brother.
Accurate
I don't want to judge too harshly based on an admittedly small sample size, but linguistics people I've met at both the undergrad and postgrad level have all been underwhelming. Good at what they do but dogshit in any other academic or intellectual pursuit, boring and terrible conversation.

I don't even have mathematics anymore. I study arts, but it's a vague and shitty program. My plan is to go for a Phd in Yea Forums and just teach it after that/become a searcher. I don't see how that is retarded. Anyways, I hesitated for a long time between philosophy and literature, but I've come to literature, because job placement is much higher. Where I live, people hardly use their diplomas in philosophy, whence people who have a diploma in lit can get highly paid, safe corporate jobs/functionnary jobs that have a lot of privileges and days off.
Now, considering that most of philosophy is in literature... is that retarded?
law and medicine are too based to be compared with that nerd shit.

spend a day out in nature looking at plants and you will learn more than you could by reading 90% of books. theres a reason so many of our great thinkers wrote in biology (or highly related fields). i would also say theology is based and redpilled for similar reasons.
You have to use words to convey ideas. That's what I meant. And literature is about that. I don't see why this is "liberal". Conservative ideas are written in words too, y'know?
And yes, a "collar job" seems like a safer option than just going for broke with self-publishing in a world of so much works.
I think someone can find a good branch in any domain if they know what they're doing. I agree.

Anyone who said electrical engineering was cringe is cursed with eternal bad wiring, so saith God.
It depends on how much you prioritize personal interest and how much you prioritize making money. Tons of people want to study math, philosophy, or physics, but opt to do something with a higher market demand like engineering instead.
What is it about sociology in particular as a discipline which attracts such a combination of stupid and insufferable people? All the memes about humanities majors seem to be true with these guys
English is based because my degree is 90% women
By that logic social work should also be extremely based
>I don't see why this is "liberal"
liberal arts != political liberalism
Can you pass a judgment on law too?
Since I'm seeing a positive reviews of Mathematics, let me put my burning question here. So I'm interested in taking Maths, but what scares me are real life mathematicians. Almost all of them I've met are autists that had really poor social skills. Why is this? Am I gonna turn into like that too?
best post in the thread
Only if you're a pleb like Wittgenstein.
read widely and make time to socialize and you wont
life is literally too short and higher education is literally too contingent/whinsical/inconsequential re:employment to not choose one of these based on what you’re actually interested in, to answer your underlying question.
Why the hate for sociology?
Because it was overran mostly by people who shouldn’t’ve been in HigherEd in the first place and who proceeded to highjack the theoretical innovations of other disciplines and neglect their foundations, bot too mention all the bad math SJWs SJWs SJWs SJWs.
Oh, I'm sorry. I have not yet encountered this term and only have been fed with "liberal cuck", "commie", "feminist" and other alike types of connotation for such a term. Thank you for precising. I feel so grateful for having discovered this board/website... haha
Bourdieu?
>Read widely
That's what studying mathematics won't allow you. It'll take your 100 percent dedication of your life to itself if you wanna be good at it
he sucks
No. I mean the literal professors that occupy the academy. At least the big names are “big names,” which implies they at least serve a social function. Yea Forums forgets a given discipline is mostly comprised of smarmy individuals who define its ethos with their everyday decisions as intellectuals.
>biochemistry
I got this one and I regret it and would do anything to take it back
Are you daft m8?
You could always study widely WITHIN mathematics. (hell you could study economics or game theory and learn mathematics through its application) :3
Sociology is an unfortunate discipline in that it tends toward various fads of hyperpositivism and quantification fetishism. As a discipline it is more like economics, political science, and other "I'm only getting this degree as a prelude to being a shallow public intellectual or government bureaucrat" studies, and far less like history or anthropology.
Its history begins with the ultraconfident Auguste Comte and his Mill-esque positivist 'nomothetic' science of humanity, whose methods are tempered by (the still overconfident) Durkheim, then it slumps from its isolation, then it resurges through a methodological fusion with anthropology (born around the same time) and history (notably Weber). It gets infusions from some interesting Italian guys. In France and Germany, it is then mostly eaten and subsumed by those various other disciplines (history+anthro especially). In the Anglosphere, it becomes an overbearing tyrant of quantification fetishism, becoming difficult to distinguish from economics, and monolithically structural-functionalist under Talcott Parsons.
Nowadays if you "study Sociology" what you mean is "I should have gone into economics so I could at least be rich being a soulless cultureless retard; instead, I am writing a ten-year PhD thesis on the rigorously quantified social stratification of how many people ride certain kinds of buses, so I can maybe try to get a public policy job or something (also historians and anthropologists would laugh at my thesis as naive and atavistic)"
Very instructive. Thank you.
Why is economics bluepilled?

Especially philosophy. Can I get fries with that?
Philosophy majors do better than business majors. Look up the statistics pseud.
That's because most business majors are useless. The one's that are useful (ie accounting, finance, actuarial science) are much better off than philosophy majors.
CS and Software Engineering are the petroleum engineering of our time. Companies hype the fuck out of them because they were paying the people in those fields way too much. There's now a ton of educated people in the field and they can afford to pay them less while still being very picky. The same will happen to programmers, data scientists, etc. - grunt work goes to India, polishing goes to a handful of people who make a meager salary.

Biology and biochemistry are seeing much more innovations and change than the more respectable Chem/Phys/Math. I'd rec them if you want to actually achieve something impactful
>business admins keep the world running
HAHAHHAHAHAHA
Well, I mean, it's typically the most popular major at most universities. Business and its concentrations(finance/hr management/accounting/marketing) and such are direct pipelines to normie office work, too.
They are probably first on the automation chopping block but atm its basically a practical economics degree, instead of the theoretical wankery in actual econ degrees

I'm juggling between choosing Accounting so I have a net to fall back on in terms of earning enough money, however I'm dreading the soullessness of it, or going with Philosophy right now.
Is it best to start straight away with Philosophy, instead of leaving it until my later years until I can be more financially stable.
Why is everyone complimenting maths so much? What's so unique about that isn't there in Physics, Chem, Bio? You would literally have to memorise hundreds of equations and formula. While memorising parts are there in other STEM subjects too, you would atleast memorising interesting stuff, but math memorisation are just mindless numbers and letters.
Quite based desu.

Mathematics and philosophy.
Not listed but mathematics and theology would be even better.
WHY IS IT SO HARD FOR YOU FAGGOTS TO MAKE ON TOPIC THREADS?!?!
Turn physics and software to mischling and it's surprisingly correct.
Explain. Why?
Philosophy is a very broad term and you'll have to face some less interesting stuff even if your department is focused on something you like.
You can argue the same for any discipline but it's particularly obvious in philosophy, at least where I was.
As for picking theology, the subject itself is based and it forces you to have some different methods and go through exegesis so you can't just meme your way through it in the formal manner you get in mathematics. History might be a good choice too but the subject matter is less based and many history departments are deep into bizarro subversion.
>Algebra is a big portion of university maths
Yes, but you can avoid it past Linear Algebra (which is based, by the way), just do Analysis.
>Except for the anti-algebra autist.
It's me and I am being ironic, why are algebraists so autistic over a bit of friendly banter?
>many history departments are into bizzaro subversion
Yeah, i worried about this too. Do you have any examples?
