Get back on that horse OP
Keep going, OP. It all works out.
>get about ten stock rejections
>finally get a more personalized response from someone
>it's someone who fit my story really well
>"Your query excited me, the story sounded interesting, but the sample pages didn't draw me in."
Where does one go from here?
Draw them in
I tried my best already.
I guess what they were saying was your query was better than the book
Some publisher asked for my full manuscript a week or two ago, so I'm hoping that goes well. Might be a while until I hear back
post a short passage and i'll tell you what you're doing wrong

Now that you've been rejected, please get to work on killing yourself.
Seeing as you have been rejected, I implore you to commence the act of self-termination
Know that it's not personal and that people less talented than you have gotten published just as people more talented than you have not.
Don't aim for acceptance, aim for getting like 50 rejection letters within the next year, it's all about frame of mind, something something you miss 100% of the shots you don't take, if you aim for rejection as default anything beyond that is a bonus and you may not feel so low when they come pouring in.
Keep it up I believe in you
and I'll tell you if it just sucks or not.

you have to give them a blowjob, it's the only way to move forward in this business
Resubmit it using an alias of a black woman and it will be accepted
Not him, but I always thought this was a meme. That was before I started compiling agents that I was planning on querying, and ~80% say they are looking for same sex relationships (not exclusively, but preferred).
Really makes me worried. Both for my ability to get published, writing things that have a classical heterosexual romance, and for kids these days.
What publishers and how'd you go about doing so?
Look into chaos magick
Write something of a classical heterosexual romance and then change one of the characters into the same sex. They are not selling gayness just the fact that they are gay.
I've thought about doing this.
It's tough to swallow my pride.
There was a man who got pretty well known for submitting a poem, having it rejected, resubmitting under an Asian name, and having it praised or something.
How Yea Forums of all places can still be leftish with this ugly fact preventing at least some of the aspiring writers here from ever having a career is beyond me.

Put some more flair into your words.
Editors are pseuds, it might get them wet.
