Fuck, bros...*

I'm too depressed to use proper grammar, however important it may be to the meaning I'm trying to convey

What was Lomax's problem? Is there a secret cripple pact or why did he stick with Walker?

Is Stoner about upper-class WASPs smoking weed or what?

Just two words... FUCK WALKER

yeah

Attached: 1473885671866.jpg (936x960, 302K)

walker was his clone he made to try and achieve where he didn't
that's why he was so weirdly invested in his success and why they shared the same deformity

no thanks i'm straight

I think lomax identified with walker in some fashion being that they were both crippled, and felt personally rebuffed when stoner tried to prevent him from teaching.

I really don't get it. Why is it that Yea Forums only talks about like 15 books and not any more? Why are people here so close-minded? Is this herd mentality? Or do people here actually not care about literature and want to show off by following the memes? Highly bizarre feels.

there's like 200+ unique users in this site. we don't have the numbers of plebbit or youtube.

Have you noticed that there are "mainstay" works in other boards too? Yea Forums, Yea Forums, Yea Forums and Yea Forums all have a certain pool of works that are frequently talked about in their respective boards and always feature in their charts. My guess is that a lot of people read/watch/play these works to fit in

>Why do people like the best things ever! Why do people like cool things and not shit things like I do!

Attached: 2f7.jpg (601x508, 31K)

People on here don’t read that much past the few recommended books that are constantly shilled and thus discussion threads only take off if they are about those specific books. Every now and again someone will make an interesting thread about a book but no one else has read it and the thread dies with no (You)s. People who actually read just stop coming here or making threads after a while.

You do realize that this painting isn’t actually from the novel? Why would you assume we know what book you’re even talking about? It’s so weird. I don’t think any other book has a painting that much associated with a novel.

Because it’s the cover of the fucking book, are you really this dense you dopey cunt?

>cool painting
>cool book
>said cool painting on said cool book
>"OMG why are they associated?? How will I know which book you're referring to? REEEEEEEE"

I remember when this book first appeared on this board a couple years ago and then never resurfaced until probably last year. It's great how the book itself has gained some popularity along with William's other novels. He's a great writer, I think one of the best American writers

first for Edith did nothing wrong

>it's popular, so it must be good!

Attached: you.jpg (218x250, 8K)

More like Edith and Stoner both did wrong for reasons they thought were good, but the other didn't understand, though they eventually forgive each other.

>It's popular so it must be bad!

only one publisher's version you dum dum

The difference here is I never said that. I only pointed out that certain works are more often discussed on certain boards and prominently featured on recommended charts. However, you immediately assumed these often discussed works are the "best" and assumed they must be good because a lot of people here like them. Doubt you have read them all anyways. Has it ever occurred to you that maybe, maybe there's other books out there that aren't discussed here that are good?

So did her father rape her or not?

>The difference here is I never said that
I also never mentioned the word "popular" in my replies.
>Has it ever occurred to you that maybe, maybe there's other books out there that aren't discussed here that are good?
I myself have threads about books or topics and they receive limited attention compared to bait threads. Yea Forums is a shithole these days, I won't defend it, but I will say, though, that unlike Reddit, all the books we discuss here are actually good and some aren't even popular outside here.

We can't possibly know, it's open to interpretation. A big "no" from me.

yes

the version that reprinted the book after decades of obscurity, launching it back into the eye of the public including Yea Forums. so yes, it's the cover most people would associate with the book.

No, but Stoner did.

If you think Yea Forums is a shithole then why are you defending its posters? If anything, you should agree that the reason the quality of discussion has gone down the drain is because people don't even read the books on the recommended charts but pretend they have so they can feel smart and fit in

i start a thread once or twice i finish a new novel. 9 times out of ten i dont get more than 2 replies and the thread dies after an hour. obviously more common books posted are going to be discussed more you dipshit

The response to this novel that I despise above all is where people say he had a good life, if only in comparison to most. Stoner did not have a good life, he led one of quiet desperation and it fills me with dread imagining it. Worst of all he failed his daughter

>If you think Yea Forums is a shithole then why are you defending its posters?
For old time's sake, I suppose lol no but seriously I don't resent people reading the classics, which I'm sure under all the shit here some actually do read them. But yeah I dislike the fact the level of discussion has gone down the drain like you said.

Yeah I never got this. At best Stoner fended off total desperation at the cost of most of his relationships and almost all of his opportunities. He was too weak of a man to even stand up for himself until almost the end of his life. He took the easy route at almost every turn, and as a result he ended up barely noteworthy and - more importantly - almost completely unfulfilled.

>almost completely unfulfilled.
that's most human lives for ya

I think that's the message the book conveys, your life will be what you make it, like stoner says "what did I expect". It promotes a passive lifestyle, its noteworthy his dedication to his craft and the institution he worked for. He also didn't try at a literary career, which is understandable but its how you view it.

That image frightened me, I was about to go to sleep.
Apologize

Anyone here read this yet? Been curious about a biography now that I've read all his novels

Will it be kino?

Attached: castonefine.jpg (785x442, 56K)

I don't care too much about Stoner--the book or the movie--but that's good casting.

>Depressed
Piss off.

Michael Cera should be the kid that Stoner gets pissed off at.

He was fucking him.

Why did he rape his wife bros? Did she deserve it?

Read Shakespear. The whole book of stoner is really just an allegory to Shakespear's most famous works

A woman rarely deserves to be raped, shame on you.

/r/books talks about the same books all the time and they have more than ten million users.

They're soulless bugmen thought

No, Shia LaBeouf.

How to not end up like Stoner Yea Forums?

Attached: 00.png (205x201, 72K)

Why wouldn't you want to end up like Stoner? He had a good life.

Because everybody can't read all the same, more obscure works. One has to invest much more time reading an author's bibliography than listening to an artist's discography.

Because it was the only way to have sex with her and he couldn't fight the urge.
