Holy shit is this book good. He has single-handedly been able to dissect everything wrong with modern society. How the hell does Houellebecq do it?

I liked the bit where he described in detail what chemically happens to a human body in its way to decomposition. Perfect (unintended) metaphor for the West.

Child abandonment... It makes you a better writer.

I want to buy this book but I would feel self-conscious about reading a book with a half-nude girl on the cover with my family around. What do?

Buy the one with the periodic table

Read this whole book on duty at work. Made a book cover out of a brown paper bag. Just like drinking on the street.

What did he say about Yea Forums?

it predates Yea Forums

stop posting your shitty videos here. they're about as unfunny as middle schooler's class presentations.

Do you live in saudi arabia

no u

Either find a way to not feel self conscious about it, or buy the American edition, under the title "Elementary particles" which has a different cover.

i'm reading it now and its amazing how it sounds like it was wrote yesterday

Written.

Why? Because it might give your family the hope that you're not a faggot?

That's actually a crucial passage into Bruno's psychology, he says 'This is the way the world ends, people worshiping big dicks,' when in fact that's the way the world lives, not in a metaphorical or superficial way, sex, reproduction, procreation, that's how humanity continues to perpetuate its existence. The thing about Bruno's character is that I could see somebody being hung up on such things in high school and maybe through their mid to late twenties, once you hit thirty though it's hard to believe you'd still be consumed by that irrational, pathological fear or obsession or whatever, 15, 20 years of working for a living, paying bills, making ends meet ought to have squeezed all that shit out of you, which makes Bruno a little harder to believe as a character. Maybe that's the point though, illustrating irreconcilable desperation, that's what I like about the book to begin with, how pathetic the guy is, people act like Houellebecq is championing these guys, to me he's asking, 'Is this who you are? How you want to be? How you see yourself? An ineffectual lump of neurotic self-pity? Living a life where the most profound moment of fulfillment was feeling a woman's throat contract around your penis?' I really, really hope that a majority of readers would firmly answer, 'No.'

>(unintended)
I bet you believe flaccid cocks are in there for the sake of it as well

The connection is never made, so yeah, it's up to you to decide what it represents.

then it doesn't describe everything that's wrong with modern society

the themes of decay, nihilism, deconstruction and impotence all seem fairly interlinked. degenerating, dying, passing - it's basically a complex of recurring themes. I'd consider them a coherent structure. Houellebecq's a solid writer, he'd probably not throw a ton of meaningless stuff into his books.

fuck off

Elliot rodger's manifesto is far more entertaining while carrying basically the same message as this book.

Atomised is such a snorefest idk how you guys managed to meme yourself into thinking it was good.

People have different tastes. And thinking "Elliot Rodger's manifesto" is better than Atomised is genuinely upsetting. We must've read different texts.

>elliot rodger
>im going to kill everyone because no gf
if sex was so important to him why didnt he just hire a prostitute?
also, how do women feel knowing that six people died because they didnt have sex with the weird guy in class?

That’s a great picture.

He ate marxism and H.P. Lovecraft for breakfast, because he's a champion living the writer's life like a pychon-lite symbol that moves beyond the textual ampersand into the hyper?

>how do women feel
women's feelings are different than a man's. There is no self analysis or reflection with women. I'm surprised many can pass the mirror test desu

> 15, 20 years of working for a living, paying bills, making ends meet ought to have squeezed all that shit out of you

For a lot of people, making ends meet isn't that hard that it would distract you from low level drives.

writith

I'm sure that they all felt vindicated for thinking he's a weird creep and any girl who thought for a second that he was cute probably felt like they dodged a bullet. If he had just gotten some pussy, he'd still have all the same problems and inadequacies he had before, and if he ever got a girlfriend it probably would have ended with her dead when she tried to break up with him.
