It's Yeats' birthday.
Say something nice about him
It's Yeats' birthday
yeats yeats
you were excellent
yeats yeats
now you’re dead
IN tombs of gold and lapis lazuli
Bodies of holy men and women exude
Miraculous oil, odour of violet.
But under heavy loads of trampled clay
Lie bodies of the vampires full of blood;
Their shrouds are bloody and their lips are wet.
Happy birthday Yeats
You're one of the greats
I'll raise a pint to you
With some of my mates
YEET
Yeats, you're almost as cute as Fitzgerald.
Kissy kissy
It’s Yeats, not Yates
er, it is yates
no it's Yeets
He was simultaneously one of the most based and one of the most autistic. He's proof there's hope for people like me. I love you, Yeats.
do you know what his dad said about him
his poems fall short of the pathetic only by their genuine feeling for ireland and their irreproachable anvil-craft.
YEET into the grave, fucker
him YEETED
no, it's Yote
This shit dead
YEAT
He was a much better poet than Toilets and Pound.
not much of a compliment for a british poet to say he's better than two americans
>virgin until he was 28
>eugenicist with fascist sympathies
>believed in magic, fairies, and ghosts
>parents literally thought he was retarded because he couldn't speak until he was 7
>terrible student
>rejected five times by the same woman and cucked by John MacChad
Yeats will forever and always be /ourguy/
>describing Yeats as British
giga retard move 2bh
poet score: 5/6
>still becomes one of the greats against all odds
the irish are britons
Early Yeats > Late Yeats
no doubt, his best stuff came before pound transmogrified him
Just admit you've never read him, retard
why would anyone read yeats?
Is this a good starting point?
i think that's also a finishing point
So that's why he degraded? Damn. I really hate Pound now
sounds based. he would be my friend if he were alive
Late Yeats it's truly peak excelence, but only in some poems... the rest is garbage.
Is it annotated? His work has very specific occult and Irish nationalist references that you're going to miss if you're a first time reader of Yeats, references that directly affect the meaning of his poems. I highly recommend the Norton collection because it not only provides a very thorough context and analysis, but it also features excellent essays and commentary
>lived long enough to see the woman who rejected him become a drug-abusing roastie
>banged her anyway for old times' sake
>married + reproduced with a much younger qt
We're gonna make it lads.
Well, the description days "Revised and corrected, this edition includes Yeats's own notes on his poetry, complemented by explanatory notes from esteemed Yeats scholar Richard J. Finneran. The Collected Poems of W. B. Yeats is the most comprehensive edition of one of the world's most beloved poets available in paperback." Also, I didn't know there was a Norton collection, I'll check it out.
>I highly recommend the Norton collection because it not only provides a very thorough context and analysis, but it also features excellent essays and commentary
sounds miserable.
you're never going to miss the emotional quality of his poems anyway whether you know diedre is or not.
Actually, it's Yeezy.
I believe that the poems' emotional quality is heightened when you can better appreciate their depth and intent.
The Norton collection isn't miserable in the slightest, it's very interesting material that gives you a fuller experience of reading Yeats. If you're willing to put in the work, you will get more out of it.
That sketch was done my john singer sargent.
Check out his watercolors. They are some of the best in the world
Oh yeah he did a great portrait of Henry James as well
>If you're willing to put in the work, you will get more out of it.
this is the sort of thing i'm against re poetry. after all they weren't written to be studied, but read.
