Did it shock you to realize, that people like this have always existed, and were not just born of the internet?

tfw no Myrna Minkoff gf

It was kind of a relief, desu. For awhile, I thought we were living in some kind of hellscape, but we aren't! It's always been like this...

no

>I thought it was bad that this thing exists until I realized that it has existed for longer than I had believed it to have

I have always questioned where the stereotypical nerd or autist stereotype first appeared in. This may be the earliest occurrence. They always existed since the dawn of time.

No but it shocked me to realize that John Kennedy Toole memed these hideous creatures into being.

What makes you think such people didn't exist beforehand?

Their occurrence was rarer until books became widely available in one format or another. To put it simply, they made loneliness less boring. Then of course you have other media arriving, but books are enough for this kind of person to exist.

Jerry Lewis and Woody Allen we’re doing nerd characters in the 50’s and 60’s

nerds are meek
Ignatius isnt a nerd

I hate Woody Allen physically, I dislike that kind of man. I can hardly bear to talk to him. He has the Chaplin disease. That particular combination of arrogance and timidity sets my teeth on edge.
He is arrogant. Like all people with timid personalities, his arrogance is unlimited. Anybody who speaks quietly and shrivels up in company is unbelievably arrogant. He acts shy, but he’s not. He’s scared. He hates himself, and he loves himself, a very tense situation. It’s people like me who have to carry on and pretend to be modest. To me, it’s the most embarrassing thing in the world—a man who presents himself at his worst to get laughs, in order to free himself from his hang-ups. Everything he does on the screen is therapeutic.

its not like they got out much

Yeah, it was a relief. Come on, I'm a finite being; let me have my realizations.

I revelled in it. This is one of my favorite books and I had many, many, laughs reading it.

Now tell me what you think of the Irish, Orson.

He didn't deserve her. I loathed the "happy ending."
I loved the subplot with the Lee's Pants family.

i used to be similar to him until i matured my character
and now instead of hating the world i see beauty in it and empathize with it even if its utterly disgusting

still jacking off to memories of your dead dog?

ha ha
very funny

>tfw I had to reread that page to make sure what I read.

My great aunt dated John Kennedy Toole in the 1960s in New Orleans

Where does she live now? I'love to meet her.

But there was a time when they wouldn't live very long, either because they got IBS and shat themselves at the sight of blood, or because their dirty bearded dads took them by their pigeon-toed feet and smashed their heads against a stone wall before their second birthday.

She died in Houston in 2015 :(

I'm sorry to hear that. May perpetual light shine upon her soul.

Did any of you actually laugh out loud reading this?

yeah because it shows society has learned to live with it and it won't bring about our ruin

I did. The only time a book has actually made me.

ditto my man, the child molestation thing was pretty cool though

They are the best kind of people. They are the true saints

>Did it shock you to realize, that people like this have always existed
Absolutely

In some ways it was easier back then because nerds had their own IRL gathering places. But the sheer amount of information online still makes this a golden age.
