For those who haven't heard, I have a sabbatical from work coming up and am solicitating writing (short stories and essays) from the people of Yea Forums to print in a "quarterly" towards the end of the summer and into the fall. Accepted contributions earn $200 Canadian (roughly 150USD) no strings attached. I will print a fixed amount of the quarterly and sell them at shipping cost to anyone interested. Email me at [email protected].
This is a non-profit, self-funded project meant to give writers a little more structure and motivation to FINISH their smaller projects. There are only a handful of conditions: >the submission must not be previously published >essays must be related to modern culture, history, literature, or politics and not exceed 5000words >short fiction must be literary and realistic (sorry, no fantasy, romance, or scifi) or satirical and not exceed 5000words. >poetry must not exceed one page (with some discretion) and must be evocative and serious in tone. [Note: accepted poetry pays 150CAD].
That is all. If you have something started, finished, or in the editing process, email me at [email protected]. I will happily edit your work for grammar, tone, and clarity and give you constructive feedback. I've had a handful of submission, with two contributors have already been accepted and paid!
Don't waste your money on turds like this OP. You could use that money to set up something fucking better than this shit. Giving a few hundred bucks to potboiler-writing NEET niggers on the internet is just going to drain your bank account for no reason.
I gather you have disposable wealth but this is just setting it on fire. You're going to attract the scum of Yea Forums, not even "the best of Yea Forums, a scummy place." You're going to get no self-awareness having retards who just want money.
Dominic Hall
Could I interest you in a critique of Accelerationism? (Just the Left and Right variants, nothing too schizophrenic).
Michael Moore
do you have a deadline in mind?
Jayden Brown
if you think people are gonna wanna publish good work but have it associated with Yea Forums you are what is colloquially known as "naive"
Charles Anderson
Maybe he'll give it some generic name that wouldn't be recognized as such to the uninitiated, like when "Hypersphere" happened?
Eli Turner
Take away the money aspect...would YOU contribute your stuff for free? The money aspect isn't earth-shattering, but it's *something*. What I'm trying to attract are people in a similar situation as I am in: been writing as a hobby for years, am too self-conscious to take the traditional, corporate publishing route, and just want to ENJOY writing with a purpose with something to show for it at the end.
Absolutely. Please contribute.
If I had all submissions by the end of August, that would be ideal. But a couple weeks beyond, I could probably work with. It's just that I'm leaving country mid-September so printing might be more arduous...or it might be cheaper, who knows.
Correct. It is in no way officially affiliated with Yea Forums. "Lit Quarterly" is a working title (I'm open to suggestions, btw.), but the journal will have no affiliation with the site whatsoever. It will be published somewhat anonymously.
Nicholas Martinez
Would you be interested in an essay I wrote while I was in the psych ward?
Anthony Brooks
>it will be published somewhat anonymously what does that mean, no names attached? tripcodes only?
Nolan Rodriguez
For sure, man. Send away. [email protected]. Will provide constructive criticism.
Each contributor will select how his work is attributed. For example, one person has opted for first name only, age, and city. Myself, I will be submitting under a partial pseudonym with age and city. The publication itself will be titled thus:
>[Lit Quarterly] >September 2019
Jason Rodriguez
How do you plan on disseminating these? And besides, will it be internet or print?
Xavier Fisher
It will be solely in print...hardcopy, probably a magazine or pocketbook form. I will print them at my own expense and whoever wants one will just have to pay the shipping.
Are there any constraints on content aside from word limit? My stuff is really schizophrenic and non-linear. I'm not sure if it's worthy.
Dylan Sanchez
You're writing fiction or an essay?
Jacob Baker
Awesome stuff OP
Andrew Morales
Fiction.
Elijah Gomez
thanks. I hope you'll be contributing!
Jace Martin
what do you mean when you say the short fiction should be 'literary and realistic' and no 'genre fiction'? what are examples of work that would fit your criteria?
yes I know I'm stupid thanks
Liam Clark
Throw it at me and I'll give you feedback. No commitment. If you can tell a good, evocative story, we'll tell it. Don't be afraid to submit.
Justin Hall
I've simply never read fantasy, scifi, or romance so I'm not equipped to edit and judge works in that genre. So, what am I looking for? Something that is realistic, thoughtful, emotive, perhaps dramatic...honestly, these criteria aren't that strict. My inspiration is based on Dubliners, Nine Stories, These 13, Lives of Girls and Women, The Complete Tales of Edgar Allan Poe, and Five Stories. Even if this is out of your realm of interest, contribute and I will provide a free edit and feedback because I love editing!
Hunter Torres
Publishing it online would be cool too and having a website made up would be easy. Get someone around here to do it, potentially for free, though I'm not volunteering.
Dominic Butler
That could be phase two. Right now, I just want to collect some good writing and print it in the old fashioned way. Are you contributing?
David Hughes
This seems shady af.
Carson Walker
Count me in. This is going to be great for the aggregate health of the board, I'm glad you're doing this.
Isaiah Thompson
It may look that way, but it's entirely self-funded. I've already paid two contributors, am in the editing process for two others, and am looking for more. If you have something to contribute, it can be attributed to initials if you like.
Thanks, I look forward to your contributions!
Gabriel Hernandez
Hey OP, another leaf here; I was considering doing the same thing. Few questions: what are the legal rights of contributors and their works to your rag? What's the rule for resubmission, i.e., if I submit a poem that gets denied, can I send in another one till I get accepted? What about distribution? Do you need help getting feet on the pavement or printers and graphic designers, for example? Just spitballing here.
So, YES: I need help with printing, design, and distribution. Open to all suggestions of companies or organizations that will design and print the quarterly.
As for legal rights of contributors, I see it like this: if you submit something, I accept it, and I pay you? It's going in the quarterly under whatever name your decide to attribute it to.
So, any ideas for places to design and print once everything's collected?
Nathaniel Price
worst case you've been tricked into writing??
Hunter Anderson
Right. With free, objective feedback.
Blake Ward
Yeah, I used to assist in printing a uni monthly and zineshit on the side and I got a mate who's good with design. I'll send you an email.
