Death on the installment plan is a good book? Should I buy it? I've read journey and loved it, so... Is it worth it?
Louis Ferdinand Céline
Always looking for an excuse to post this one
>so... Is it worth it?
You have to decide that for yourself, either bite the bullet, or, you know, libgen.
just read that his anti-semiticism was so extreme that he put off even the nazis lmao
It is, IMO, better than Journey To The End Of The Night (I read both in French though, and loved them both for the prose).
But Bagatelles Pour Un Massacre isn't worth. After Mort à Crédit, and maybe D'un Chateau à l'autre if you still want more, you should stop with Céline.
North and Normance were p good
I couldn't finish those.
Should I try again?
I've read for the 2nd time Journey few month ago, plan to reread also Death on Crédit next year because I forgot most of it but maybe I should try again those.
I'd say give it a go, but I can't attest to the original French.
Yes. Having read Journey, it’ll make the end even more heart wrenching.
The post war trilogy (Castle to Castle, North, and Rigadoon) are three of the funniest books I have ever read. I wish I read French just to read Celine, but I am happy to read him any way I can. The man was an absolute outrage. And he sure loved that cat.
Bébert (who, like Celine, did not give a shit).
Anyone read Semmelweis?
Death on Credit is his best work. Why don't you like Bagatelles? I think his pamphlets make his post-war trilogy not worth it...too much holding back from a guy who tried to be the biggest anti-semite the world has ever seen...literally...I read North and thought it was pointless.
yes, it's brilliant
be aware though that most of the book is about the narrator's early life - no wartime or colonial shenanigans.
Damn, that's a nice fuckin kitty.
I read it, pretty entertaining. Great short book
OP here
do you guys know any author just like Celine? I mean not exactly the same but with the same black humor and (not giving a fuck)
Camus better. Celine is so long winded and blandly depressing. Houellebecq is better while also being overly depressing because at least he's funny.
for same writing style check out Carlo Emilio Gadda, although he does give a fuck and his black humour is limited use.
john fante, bukowski
> Houellebecq is funnier than Celine
Houellebecq takes all his jokes from Celine. Camus was peak pseud who didn't read any of the writers he critiqued.
>Camus and Houellebecq better than Céline
Holy shit the state of this board
