THE ONLY BOOK RE MEDITATION THAT ONE WILL EVER NEED.
look mom i posted it again
Unironically, is this real? Seems like a bunch of bullshit about Jesus and such.
stupid
I liked this one
The Mind Illuminated, by Culadasa
Yoga philosophy of patanjali, hariharananda aranya
You don't need books, Internet is enought. There isn't a lot to read about meditation actually.
this
Thank you guys, I'll definitely read the books you have suggested me.
brilliant book
once you get to stage 4/5/6 area, I recommend branching out a bit and exploring:
Right Concentration by Leigh Brasington
and
Manual of Insight by Mahasi Sayadaw (though this one is a different technique, less pleasurable but can create irreversible changes in the way your mind operates)
How does it compare to other "buddhism meets neuroscience" books?
>Christ
>Bs
Choose one and only one, faggot
Are there any good hindu/advaita Vedanta meditation books? I understand that's, like, Buddhism's thing, but I'm interested in other schools
Yoga philosophy of patanjali by hariharananda aranya. It is the most explicit thing I've found. It literally tells you how to do everything, how to attain the states and attain liberation in a concrete practical way from zero.
>books about meditation
You’re already on the wrong track. Meditation is as simple as a single paragraph instruction and doesn’t require deep intellectual/philosophical contemplation (in fact may even be hindered by it).
Excellent. Thanks a bunch
Check Eliade’s Yoga: Immortality and Freedom.
It almost doesn't have neuroscience content. It's primarily a thorough handbook of meditation.
In Bhagavad Gita Krsna explains to Arjuna how to "meditate" (do dhyana yoga). Arjuna didn't like it, though. So Krsna told him to be religious instead
The "neuroscience" part is just there to sell copies. It's just a painstakingly detailed instruction manual for meditation, I don't even remember anything about neuroscience in the book except maybe in the intro he might've said "neuroscientists are finding that meditation has profound effects on the brain" once or twice.
this is so fucking good that you can reach stream entry without even know shit about the noble eightfold path
prepare your anus for the dukkha nanas though
This. Meditations by Marcus Auerlius is an amazing complimentary reading to getting in the meditation mindset though. His writings about being in the present and the soul not being able to be harmed by anything are quite inspirational.
>mindfulness meditation
You're gonna fuck your shit up, user.

In addition to what the other user mentioned, Vedantic-style meditations that one can do while seated or while going about one's activites are described in Shankara's Vivekachudamani
