"This essay concerns black feminist theory’s experimentation with the disciplinary discourses of chaos theory and physics to investigate the trace effects of blackness and explore the limits of conceptualization and representation in light of the particular problem that blackness’s diffuse and immeasurable conditioning power poses to thought and representation. I argue that when considering the genealogy of black feminism, it is possible to discern a black feminist poetics that anticipates recent feminist materialism’s attentiveness to the mutually constitutive effects of discursivity and materiality. Said poetics approaches a shared worry over the problem of referentiality, not in representationalist terms, as recent materialists would suggest, but rather through a poetics attentive to the racializing and sexuating dimensions of an (anti) black sublime that conditions, exceeds, and potentially ruptures the scales of the empirical. Privileging performativity, gesture, resonance, and metaphor over the authority and purported veridicality of Western empirical science, the poetics of black feminism investigated here is instructive for a general theory of representation."
well obviously. the point of humanities is to literally make up bullshit and hope that people will act something like what you write, so that their actions will verify your predictions.
stemfags actually try to describe the world as it is.
Nicholas Cook
stemfags might not be proficient in philosophy, but at least they don't try to do it. they just don't give a shit about it
humanities people literally take scientific concepts that literally have no underestanding off

Individuals and groups from diverse sub-cultures, ethnicities, histories, genders and generations make meaning in the context of significant spaces. These spaces can be private or public, idiosyncratic or monumental. This unit will give opportunity for students to investigate a range of specific private, public, contested and heritage-recognised sites. It will also introduce students to a range of practical and theoretical skills for reading the processes of meaning-making in such sites. Preceding from semester one of cultural studies, the approach will be inter-disciplinary and will combine individual responses to sites with guided reading from amongst history, semiotics, gender studies, architecture and technology.

Wasn't it Cicero that said that there is no idea so stupid that a philosopher wouldn't defend it?
as if STEMfags don't make up data and make up bullshit theories like "the universe!! is magically!!! made!!!! of STRINGS XDDDD!!!!!" all the time

The humanities are literally a pseudo-science. They literally fit every single indicator of a pseudo-science. Have I mentioned that the study of the humanities is LITERALLY an imitation of science? As in a pseudo-science? Well I would like to do so again. The humanities are literally a pseudo-science that fit every single criterion for identifying a pseudo-science
Consider:
- Use of vague, exaggerated or untestable claims - Over-reliance on confirmation rather than refutation - Absence of progress - Personalization of issues - Use of misleading language, and most especially - Creating scientific-sounding terms to persuade nonexperts to believe statements that may be false or meaningless
Blackness studies is literally astrology. Feminism is literally cryptozoology. There is ZERO (0) difference between crystal healing and diversity training. Literally.

But academics have been doing this shit for over 200 years, since they mistook Kant's obscurity and confusion for depth. It's only going to get worse.
Hudson Johnson
Butthurt liberal arts major detected.
Ryder Diaz
still not wrong
Oliver Adams
I'm actually a butthurt biochem major, really wish I could go back and slap my past self until he changed it to linguistics
Noah Collins
"STEM" and "the humanities" are both false categories and products of the academy's commodification of itself. Nobody who uses either phrase is worth listening to.
Jaxson Torres
>really wish I could go back and slap my past self until he changed it to linguistics Believe me, your linguistic self would will himself back in time to shove a pineapple up your ass if you did that.
Kevin Nguyen
I'm a bio major and I wanted to do linguistics but no uni near me offers it, oh well.
Ryan White
Just be glad in the lack of pineapples.
Gavin Brown
and I would gasp with delight and then we'd trade glances and the next morning we'd be trying to justify ourselves to the time travel police while getting dressed why we decided that self-incest was a good idea

Is linguistics that bad? I imagine there are some Chomsky worshippers who do it for big daddy Noam but it seems like a very interesting field otherwise.
William Murphy
this, I'd also like a serious response
Jace Martin
>Is linguistics that bad? I imagine there are some Chomsky worshippers who do it for big daddy Noam but it seems like a very interesting field otherwise. Chomsky knows his shit in linguistics, he is just ultraopinionated about everything. The thing is that linguistics is a fairly soft subject, and often relies on psychology(which is outright nonsensical, for most part) in some stuff. That said, neurolinguistics are somewhat intersting, but ultimaly the field is only really useful as a hobby rather than something that can be applied ie unless you either want to join the academy, be a pop writer, or flip burgers.

this is the story humanitiesfags tell themselves so they can sleep at night

what about being a translator, or a speech therapist, or an investigator of rare/dying languages that aren't well-documented?
Austin Jackson
>hat about being a translator, or a speech therapist Neither demands you to be have a linguistics major. >or an investigator of rare/dying languages that aren't well-documented? Academy, also I hope you like malaria, angry natives, and people trying to kill you because you might be a witness to the local land grab.
Samuel Sullivan
>Chomsky knows his shit in linguistics, he is just ultraopinionated about everything. Oh I know that, I'm just saying that some of the the college socialist/syndicalist types become linguistics majors because of Noam Chomsky. Thanks for the response. My college does offer a speech language pathology minor and I'm thinking about going with that. It's mostly useless as just a minor, but maybe I could finagle a job as a bio major SLP minor. If not, I like anthropology and I could just decide to go with a complete vanity minor and minor in anthropology.
