Thing is, gorey cartoons are very popular today, for kids AND adults, Invincible, those DC cartoons, and new shit coming out always gets good rating. I wouldn't call UY a children's show so I don't see why it can't be done.

To be fair, this Kitsune hasn't fucked over her friends as much as the one in the comics. Well, she might have stolen that necklace from Gen's family.

Because it's not a gorefest and Sakai won't turn it into one. The comic is at this weird spot where it's not bloody enough for adult audience and too violent for kids at the same time. It's also too historical (feudal Japan) and not realistic enough (animal people, yokai), too full of depressing realism of life and too cartoony, very japanese but not a manga. If properly advertised, a true adaptation may have been a hit, but to an average decision making big company suit UY is much too strange and "made for nobody" because it doesn't target a specific audience.

Kitsune in the show is actually likable and cares for her friends. It's a real Bizarro world.

The suits were probably correct in this case. I can imagine a faithful cartoon adaptation being popular with people who actually gave it a chance, but I have a hard time seeing how a large number of people would have given it that chance. The premise would make a lot of people go "wtf is this shit?" and move on without a second thought. With that said, King of the Hill managed to be successful with a similar weird tone that combines wholesomeness with adult themes, so it's not impossible.

Yeah, but Usagi isn't *that* gorey, doesn't have a popular IP behind it like Castlevania or the DC cartoons or a catchy concept like Invincible. It would basically be a TV-14 show like Samurai Jack finale. And it's not actually Japanese so you don't get the weeb crowd. And on top of it you have TMNT tying it down somewhat.
I doubt an honest Usagi adaptation could get even up to Roaring Dragon plot.

Sasuke having a rest would be deserved.
