A greasy mean spirited old pedo cunt. Nice art tho

he's like a creepy asshole uncle your family tells you to avoid, but he buys you and your friends fireworks

He's kinda of a dick, but he's a very talented artist.

Honestly, I can't really hate a guy who draws this well in a medium where drawing is so important

didn't we just have a whole thread about him

Basically this. He was one of the best cape comic artists of the 70s to early 90s, he could be a competent to good writer on characters he didn't have some autistic hateboner for, but if he didn't like a character, or their creator, his work could be just hatefully malicious, and he'd get away with it because he was a star. There's enough of a record online of him acting like an awful person in real life too.

I dunno man, I'm not on here 24/7 just about

oh nvm it wasn't a big thread

Reading through that and makes me curious. Where the fuck does the pedo stuff come from?

Excellent creator but a huge fucking asshole, judging from his public persona.

At his peak he was one of the best. If I'd never read his comments on various forums I'd probably have significant more respect for him.

Easily one of the best artists in Marvel's history.
Possibly the most influential one after Kirby.

>Where the fuck does the pedo stuff come from?

Oh boy. Its not super frequent in his giant body of work, but its enough to make people uncomfortable. Chief examples include
>Reed Richards meeting Sue Storm when he was a college student and she was 13 and instantly falling love for each other
>An older Superman kissing a 13 year old Lana Lang because she requests it as she learns she's doomed never to have him(she ends up marrying him in the future anyway)

In both cases its seemingly justified by being true love. Then also

>That next men panel with a girl being operated on between her legs
Then there's his general love of Kitty Pryde...

What are some examples of him shitting on a character because he didn't like their creator?

>totes normal thing to draw for a 13 year old rape victim

All I know is Claremont wrote about a billion issues of X-Men and none came close to the ones with Byrne

Everything he did in Star Brand because he hated Jim Shooter, and that Superman story where Barda is mind-controlled into making porn movies because of some feud he had with Kirby.

Jim Shooter's big idea in the 1980s was the New Universe. Shooter created one character, known as Star Brand. Shooter self-inserted into the young character.
Seven issues later, Shooter was fired from Marvel and Byrne took over with issue 11. He had the character go crazy and blow up Pittsburgh, which was Shooter's home town.

When Byrne started writing Wonder Woman, he took a lot of time to retcon everything that had happened to the character Etrigan (the Demon) since he was last written by Jack Kirby. The acclaimed stories by Wagner, Grant, and Ennis were retconned away as "false memories" and the character regressed back into the Kirby version (no two beings, so Etrigan WAS Jason Blood).
He also turned Big Barda into a sex slave in his Superman run, having her film pornos and jilling videos knowing that she was based off Kirby's wife because Kirby had called him a corporate shill when Byrne wrote an article literally calling himself a "happy corporate cog in the machine."

He killed off Terry Long probably because he didn't like Wolfman, but it's hard to say Byrne was in the wrong.

A lot of his works include a 12-15 year old girls with grown ass men with theme of the girls usually being the instigators and the man just being like “oh well GOSH if she really wants to, who am I to say no...?” which is how a lot of pedophiles see themselves.

>Pedophiles are almost certainly "born that way". Again, we go to evolutionary conditioning. Seek the youngest, strongest, most healthy, for breeding purposes. A sure (or as sure as it gets) way to guarantee the survival of your genes. Pedophilia also brings along a big heaping helping of learned responses, however. In a society like ours, where "normal" sex is considered by many to be filthy and disgusting, "abnormal" sex is of course even moreso. "Abnormal" in this case meaning anything—even simple physical attraction—that is not "age-appropriate", heterosexual, and strictly for procreation. Preferably missionary position. Thus, any confused individual who finds himself attracted to young girls is likely to find himself attracted to increasingly younger girls, as part of his pattern of self-loathing. So much emotional torment—in victims and victimizers—would surely be set aside if our society was sexually liberated enough to even be able to say "Sure, it's okay to be attracted to eleven year olds.

>Byrne going out of his way to tell us the girl being given to Buddy in return for saving post apocalyptic survivors is underage (but she wants to fuck him so its okay!)
>Byrne going out of his way to draw 12 year old Sue incredibly young with bandaids on her knees and a doll on the ground and literally having Reed get hot under the collar (but she wants to so it's okay!)
>Byrne's Next Men having a preteen girl getting a camera shoved into her vagina to check the baby's progress
>young teenage Lana and gray templed Superman kissing while everybody else (including her parents) are just like whatever (but she wants to so it's okay!)
>Lex making somebody cavity search underage Lois and saving the video tape for later use

There's writing it once or twice if it suits your story and then there's it happening in multiple storylines when it doesn't fit and how he constantly makes it seem okay because she's okay with it.

Donna and Terry weren't even together anymore, so it wasn't "fixing" anything, and two children died alongside Terry, so it really was just Byrne being an asshole to someone else in the industry again.

His Spider-Man run is a time when the man doesn't want to, when the Mattie Franklin Spider-Woman tried to seduce Peter the issue after MJ 'died'.

This has GOT to be one of the biggest cases of
>Appreciate the art, but not the artist
in comics.

We haven't even got into what he did to Sandman, or Scarlet Witch and Vision yet.

>Sandman
Which one?

Flint Marko. He turned him back into a villain just to have a shitty Frightful Four reunion iirc, and thus threw years of Sandman being a redeemed hero stories into the trash.

>and Vision yet.

Oh shit, this just reminded me of something

Back in the early or mid 80s, Comics Journal once had a transcript of a convention panel that Byrne was on, where Byrne said that Roy Thomas didn't write and that Thomas just handed over a bunch of Conan paperback pages for an artist to draw instead of doing a script. Thomas got pissed off upon reading this and threatened to sue Byrne. Byrne relented and claimed that he heard the story second-hand.

With that in mind I could believe what Byrne did to Vision could fall under Byrne claimed that he was taking the character back to where the creator originally wanted but if you read Thomas' first Vision story then read his second Vision story, I don't think that what Thomas wanted

>just to have a shitty Frightful Four reunion iirc

It wasn't because of that, it was because he had the idea that because Flint Marko was on the FBI's most wanted list (in the old Ditko comics) that he had to be an irredeemable villain.

I will give Brevoort credit for trying to explain it, but then Zeb Wells fucked it all up afterwards.

>It wasn't because of that, it was because he had the idea that because Flint Marko was on the FBI's most wanted list (in the old Ditko comics) that he had to be an irredeemable villain.
What the fuck does that even mean? It sounds psychotic

There's nothing to appreciate though. Byrne's comics are also shit

He read this page, figured that for Sandman to have gotten on the FBI's Most Wanted that Sandman had to have done some heinous crimes, and then decided that Sandman had to always have been a villain and not redeemable despite the comics showing him trying to be.

Haven't gotten around to reading them myself, so I wanted to at least be fair.

He’s apparently a jerk in real life, but in terms of his work, I honestly think he doesn’t get enough credit. Yeah, he’s made some odd and creepy choices here and there, but he’s also done some really good work too.
His FF run in general was one of the best, he made Fin Fang Foom a staple Iron Man villain and wrote arguably the best version of the Mandarin in a strong Iron Man run, he wrote some good Superman stories (along with the bad), he pretty much created She-Hulk as we know her, and he wrote the original Iron Fist run.

>le hecking though crimes

No one said he should be in jail user. Just that he's a creepy wanker

You can become a pariah without going to jail. Specially when people call you pedo for no reason.

Can someone explain the autism Yea Forums has with this sequence? This isn't erotic.

Great artist

>act like a pedo
>"what the fuck why are you calling me a pedo"

He was too vocal when the internet started getting big and now his reputation is paying for it. Yea Forums = twitter
Look at this wikiquote page; it's a bunch of forum nonsense some haters felt was culturally relevant.
en.wikiquote.org/wiki/John_Byrne

There was literally no reason to write it in such a way that the mother had to be 12

His quote is 100% right. AOC is a spook.

The libertarian has arrived

It makes it more fucked up. The doctor is so concerned with his research that he'll push any boundry.
You're not coming at it from an art critique standpoint anyways. You're preemptively outraged by something you deemed shouldn't be put on paper; like those people who think sexual violence should never ever be portrayed in media.

Crazy right? brain damage

>it's a bunch of forum nonsense some haters felt was culturally relevant

I think the collection of quotes from Byrne paint a very clear picture of the type of person he is.

he behaves like an USA citizen

His quotes on Moore are actually right

Mixed bag, as an artist and person.

>there are people who give a fuck what creators are like in their personal lives/as people when they aren't doing their job
I never understand this. What do I care all I care about is their work. The end

What did he mean by this ?

Damn bros I'm not gonna lie this is a mixed bag for me. There's definitely some wild and crazy shit here but at the same time there are also some major redpills

>Usually, I am quick to point out how the internet would have had a profoundly negative effect—as it does today—if it had been in place twenty, thirty, forty years ago. How things like the DC rebirth in the 1950s would have most certainly died aborning had internet chat rooms and forums been around, where a small group of vocal fans could make themselves seem like an army screaming against this utter abandonment of cherished “continuity.” (2007)
Holy based.

Didn't he also post on his forum about dating a 17 year old?

>There are lots of people who call black people “niggers.” Are both terms “right”? You seem to have missed the rather important point that my response indicated roughly the same percentage of fans and pros use the improper terms for various elements of what we do—but that percentage does not approach a balance. It is not that roughly half say “balloon” and half say “bubble.” It is that some say “bubble” and they are wrong. Um...in point of fact there are plenty of people who use the word “nigger” because that is the word they use, not because they imagine it has any negative racial connotations. That’s precisely why I chose that word as my illustration
thoughts?

I'm tired of the clown world shit that you can't say nigger even if you aren't being racist.
However, Byrne is missing the point. If the entire planet started using nigger the same way we say black people, then nigger becomes the new black. Same with balloons and bubbles.

>In 2005, criticizing portrayals of Superman emphasizing his connection to his home planet, Byrne described immigrants with what he perceives as excessive attachment to their nations of origin as "ungrateful little shits."[75] In 2015, Byrne received criticism for stating that transgender people are mentally ill and comparing them to pedophiles.[76]

I thought Yea Forums users liked this kind of "le based redpilled epic truther" kind of shit? Was I wrong?

Is his website/forum still up?

Yea Forumsmblr gonna Yea Forumsmblr

Attached: tumblr_pt7g5aCDiX1s2u4wdo4_1280[1].jpg (988x400, 117.67K)

The kind of people who want to pedantic about this shit are always the type of people who get really flustered when they get called racist for using the racist slur, and never really understand or want to acknowledge how offensive the word is to black people.

Local man too based to die

Attached: tumblr_pt7g5aCDiX1s2u4wdo2_1280[1].jpg (944x606, 166.14K)

There's literally nothing wrong with saying nigger unless it can be discerned that one is being genuinely racist. It's just a word.

Why would you use it if you weren't trying to be racist? Genuine question. When would it come up in natural conversation besides in a racist way?

>115,364 posts
This can't be real

>When would it come up in natural conversation besides in a racist way?
The conversation we're having now. Reading a book. Singing a song. Repeating something that was said. Saying the word alone as a humorous non-sequitur. Calling your non-black friend it as banter.

He sits on his forum all day, every day arguing with his own fans and has since 2005. That's probably pretty minor all things considered.

>It's kind of difficult to put into words why I don't like Bob Laytons's inking. This is going to sound really silly, but I actually feel physically ill when I look at Bob's stuff. I really do. It's like everything is greasy and slimy. You know those things you can buy that hang from your rear view mirror that are made out of rubber and you touch them and they feel greasy. That's how Bob's stuff looks to me. And all his men are queer. They have these bouffant hairdos and heavy eye make-up and an upper lip with a little shadow in the corner which to me says lipstick. Even the Hulk. I will never forgive him for what he did to the Hulk's face in the annual that we did together. A lot of the other stuff I liked, but the Hulk's face, the Angel's face, the Angel, God!I remember my father looking at the stats of the finished inks and there's a shot of the Angel standing there with his hands on his hips saying hello to somebody and my father said, "Well this guy's a queer." No, he didn't look like a queer in the pencils Dad!
