Having a vagina is the only reason this shitty character is praised. Fuck you and Sonic Comics are shit.
teeth
Other IDW original characters had vaginas and they didn't receive as much praise as Surge.
based fuck coomers
she's hot and makes funny faces
no one gives a shit about the integrity of the writing or the emotions of duckbill platypus and skunk
they just wanna see a thing and go "yeyeyeye"
Based.
people coomed to tangle and whisper.
What matters is how appealing they are and how "not like deviant art" they look. (Jewel and the mouse geno thing look like shitty deviant art characters so they don't get any reaction from people)
Remember, no one gives a fuck about your comic. they just care about looking at characters.
Dont read Sonic but love her design. Post more of it.
FPBP. Surge wouldn't have gotten anywhere near as much traction if she was male.
>What made Surge more well received than other IDW original characters?
Jumping the gun a bit aren't you? She hasn't done shit yet.
no one reads the comic, they just look at drawings on twitter. the sales on idw sonic are kind of shit.
I tried to read the first chapter of the surge thing and it was so fucking boring that i just gave up and scrolled through the art instead.
Well nothing's really happened since that first issue, it's all been set up with no payoff, and they've rushed straight to the deep conflict already.
Partly this, female villains are a rarity in the series. Surge gets by on novelty alone.
Other IDW characters are just random friends and some side villains, Surge is the first new villain sonic had and unlike Shadow she is still a villain
They haven't pushed PC garbage on her yet. (Yet) I hope Sega never lets Tangle and Whisper be a thing, in fact I want them both to find hetro matches just to make the PC garbage fanbase that killed three different IDW ongoings for me seethe.
>people coomed to tangle and whisper.
They were nowhere near as hyped as Surge
>What matters is how appealing they are and how "not like deviant art" they look.
This is a subjective description, you can't even describe what is deviantart or not
>Remember, no one gives a fuck about your comic.
you are making shit up
She’s got a pretty good design…and it’s interesting how she’s gonna play out in the comics and interact with the main cast
They do read the comics
They just don't buy them
She has no longevity. She will become fairly bad once she is continued to be made relevant after that arc.
Sonic is not IDW only comic, your pic is irrelevant
It is its second biggest.
Don't you ever question why a comic so discussed with a thriving community for comic standards is still outsold at large?
Confirmation bias
Most Sonic fans don't care about it.
>She’s got a pretty good design
>black and neon green
user it literally looks like some deviantart shit
your pic is still irrelevant, post sonic comic sales
FPBP, literal furry Jinx LeagueofLegends
Wrong Deviantart is not black and neon green, deviantart is several colors which cause a rainbow-like effect in the fur
It's also the Diamond sales only, so that makes it harder to know. Though IDW did have a hard year last year and are going through a reorganization. So, it's easy to believe they're not doing great.
cute punky retard tomboy
deviant art is if the design is shit and looks like someone was just trying to imitate another character with their design or just makes a character that isn't appealing to look at without any story information accompanying them.
no one cares about your comic and they never will. it will get canceled when idw shelves it in about a year or two. :)
barely anyone reads this shit. these aren't interesting comic books and only rejects think there's anything worth reading in these heavily mandated comics that can't DO anything. (Let alone how poorly ian handles storywriting and doing anything that isn't reverent materiel)
most of these threads are people bitching about how shitty ian is for half of it and people posting ARCHIE FAGS SALLY COPE DAIPERS for the other half lol
>Having a vagina is the only reason this shitty character is praised. Fuck you and Sonic Comics are shit.
Oh user,
Go look up the physical characteristics of a Tenrec...
I'll wait
>most of these threads are people bitching about how shitty ian is
and all the ian bitching is just "this is so deviantart" and "she is just popular because she is a girl" over and over
She kinda sorta reminds people of Scourge? Also porn, people like making porn of her.
Yeah uh huh sure keep telling yourself that, ian shill.
Inst that the superhero formula in general ever since Stan Lee, bad guy fucks up shit, superhero show up do a little show and some quips, fight the villain writer push up some emotional scenes hero work with other heroes or civilians, say farewell and story end with some teaser
yes and those comics were considered low quality and disposable things just to keep children quiet so mom could smoke. it wasn't until like the 80's when people tried to turn comics into WORTHWHILE THINGS.
The cope is ridiculous. ian shills and their hack writer. go on, compare it to the most lackluster era of comics. good argument, buddy.
I guarantee you all those Surge threads will make people hate her so by all means keep making them.
I do think there could be more done with episodic storytelling than just extremely formulaic stuff
I find her genuinely different design wise, a female villain for once that goes toe to toe with Sonic, design cues for combat.
Compare her design with Blaze for example, that screams "romantic subplot character" or with Whisper that is extremely fapbaity, or Clover from the archie comics, these are characters for heavy emotional subplots, not for combat or comedy.
I think in that sense, Tangle also escaped the extremely "waifu-ey" design language, she is made to be dynamic and fun, surge has contrasting colors, sharp shapes, her expressions are aggressive, she looks very raw, I like it.
I think its just a matter of variety, not every character needs to be a "waifu" kind of character
Blaze has no romance with Sonic she is totally there for combat.
i feel like if ian had to write a year of non combat stories he wouldn't know what to do with it.
He doesn't really write characters just plots but really basic plots without super interesting lore or themes.
Things just kind of happen.
Lore and Themes are really easy crutches to rely on. Themes just lay out your work for you and Lore is just shit you can throw out there that you don't have to worry about until later if at all. Character Writing is the hardest and most important thing to get right and it shows how much of a hack he is that after over a decade of writing for these characters he still can't ACTUALLY write for THEM. "Things just kind of happen" another mark of middling writing talent. If he didn't have Sonic he'd have a very mediocre career where his shining spots would be doing pickup episodes for some HBO show.
Character Writing is what separates Avatar the Last Airbender from Korra. Korra has themes and plots and lore and all that shit, but it can't write characters out of a paper bag and the story falls apart every time they're forced to actually make all the things they laid out point to some payoff. If the characters feel artificial then so will your stories. Lore is like junk food. It's easy and just requires coming up with ideas and hinting at them. You have to actually think characters through to understand them well enough to write good character materiel. It's not easy and most people are shit at it, but it really is what separates good writers from hacks.
A fun example of this in action is Tamers12345's Sonic Underground episodes. The stories and lore are junk, but it unironically has such a solid grasp of character that it elevates the materiel to being genuinely entertaining to watch. Character Writing is THAT important. It can turn shitpost videos into unironic gold.
They showed the design on twitter

Even if this is true which I only feel is to a small extent he is still failing to put those things in.
> Clover
Fuck, I miss Clover, i really wanted to see what happened to her story.
Also we got some near official ABTs lewds, which is always nice.
Flynn isn't really a passionate writer as much as a mildly autistic kid playing with other people's toys.
He is actually having fun which spreads to others, but he isn't really seriously going in and trying to do compelling character arcs or exploring themes.
>Good design
>OP abilities
>Is an unapologetic asshole which is refreshing for this series
>Was probably really polite and normal before the extensive brainwashing
She's a pretty good character so far. It's a shame we can't have this level of thought put in the games' cast.
No long term plan.
She is gonna be ruined
Unlike most other IDW Sonic characters, canon or OC, she actually has the promise of undergoing some form of character arc.
Exactly what I was thinking…but couldn’t put into words!!!
>OP abilities
Eh. In the grand scheme of Sonic the Hedgehog, she's not that OP. She's basically Blaze-tier except Blaze has AU Deus Ex Machina Emeralds while Surge has nothing of the sort. Also Blaze can fly.
she's cute, fuck off.
'cause design-wise she's basically rule 63-scourge, who was already a really popular character. at least via virtue of being based on the same ashura glitch. and evil counterparts are always popular by default on top of that. it's pretty damn simple.
also holy shit i've got to stop looking at sonic threads here, you fuckers are obnoxious.
aren't all 3 of these examples character introductions from the first few issues?
>Surge is the first new villain sonic had and unlike Shadow she is still a villain
If Shadow were in Surge's place at this point in the story he wouldn't even have hit his redemption arc yet. Surge hasn't done anything yet, it's all vapid hype.
He also was still antagonistic until the end of his own game.
