Man, it's been so long since I've read Batman comics. I don't even notice how long it's been until people mention these guys that I've barely read about.

When Harper was introduced, it seemed clear that Snyder wanted her to be Batman's new sidekick after Morrison killed Damien off (one story literally has her lighting up a building with a big 'R'). Around the same time, Tomasi and Gleeson introduced Carrie into mainstream continuity, and they were probably angling to do the same thing. Doesn't seem like everyone was in the loop about what would happen from there.

Then DC had Tomasi and Gleeson stop using Carrie because Miller was doing DKIII (why that's a conflict when they exist in two separate universes, IDK). And I guess Tomasi and Gleason decided to bring back Damien, so of course Bluebird wasn't going to be Batman's main sidekick. She still stuck around for a bit, there, being the "plucky girl sidekick."

Then DC brings back Stephanie Brown, and honestly… Harper never acted all that different from Steph.They are both plucky and lighthearted despite having had faced adversity. So I guess Harper just kinda… disappeared?

And I never read much with Duke Thomas. What's supposed to be interesting about him? The one thing I read that he showed up in, Batman kept on telling him how he's not just treating him like another Robin, because he's something else and not a Robin. Despite the fact that he was literally just treating him like a Robin. Just putting a character in a different costume and having them say "you're not like a Robin" doesn't magically make the character not like a Robin. You have to actually do something different with them. And since they didn't, it just felt like, "don't we already have two Robins?"

i doubt she has staying power. i guess we'll see how well the trade collecting her back-up stories goes, but i don't think we'll be seeing her 2 years from now.

The reason Yea Forums's Joker family idea doesn't make sense to me is… what would hold all these people together? How could somebody like The Joker possibly have a family?

With the Batfamily, they hang together because most of the members are people with tragic pasts that Batman took under his wing because he identified with them. And because they all wanted to fight crime, Batman wanted to make sure they'd have the right training. And also, a lot of these are people that Bruce wanted to make sure didn't turn out like he is.

Joker having one henchwench because she's a deluded fan and he could use the muscle, that makes sense. Him having a gang because he pays them money, that makes sense.

But the only way I could see him having a family is if they were all followers of him because they idolized him, and that just sounds like him having multiple Harley Quinns. I guess you could do it like a cult, like a Manson Family angle, but the point of cults is the lack of individuality, whereas the point of the Batman family is all these distinct characters and personalities. Would individual members of a Joker cult even be interesting in their own right, or would they just be interchangeable clowns?

Because it’s fun, Joker has had gang regulars in past incarnations, and I’m sick of you newfags obsessed with the new age idea of edgelord Joker

You do know she just a henchwoman?nothing more, nothing less. She can't have a solo without ruining her main purpose. Her character is purely dependent on taking orders from Joker. I know nothing about Harper. Duke was at least the leader of a Robin gang and had to work really hard to prove himself to the Wayne's.
Every good Joker story don't have Harley and Punchline is a lesser Harley.

Duke use to be part of a gang of kids who were inspired by Robin to be vigilantes. He's later became a metahuman with his real dad being a low rent Ras Al Ghul with sonic powers then the rest of the Robin gang show up with Superpowers working for a bad guy.

I'm pretty sure most people hate Duke because he's black and hate Harper because she's a dyke.
