>Uncle Barry is still not canon

>final show design is better than pilot design
No shit zoomer

Yes he is. Bushworld Adventures is 100% canon, just in a different multiverse from the one Rick and Morty normally takes place in. There’s probably an Uncle Berry in that universe too though.

That's just the Rick and Morty pilot episode. It goes even further than that. Season 3 was where the visuals really made huge leaps. There was more variety in the character designs, and the backgrounds looked much more elaborate. The show looks fantastic nowadays. Almost makes the breaks between seasons worth it.

>Rick and Morty was Justin Roiland's baby that he simply brought aboard Dan Harmon on so it could be sellable for Adult Swim
>Now Harmon's taken full creative control and Roiland doesn't want anything to do with the show, only coming in to record his contracted voices and dipping as soon as he can
I still enjoy the show, but this knowledge kinda hurts…

too bad the writing shit the bed after season 3 episode 1.

That's debatable. The show's had a few bumps and detours along the way, but it's still good.

>but it's still good.
it's a shell of its former self. hell, it doesn't even have its original heart anymore just a bunch of diversity hires for writers who insert cringe
>GURL POWER
segments into episodes, and other equally unfunny bits.

Miss when the show was about Rick and Morty, not the entire Smith/Sanchez Clan.

Attached: 1583860412733.jpg (681x496, 38.64K)

Expanding the focus to the whole family isn't the problem. The problem is the way the Smiths are all written now. Back then, we were so ready to get new episodes because so many of us fell in love with the dynamic Rick had with his daughter, grandkids, and even Jerry. But now it just feels like every family member is tired of each other, even more than before. Only Rick and Morty's friendship is still exciting to watch, even with how it's changed and developed over time.

I mean it’s basically a canon Rick what with multiple universes and all.

I would love an interview after the show's done with Justin telling how much he hated the show and Dan along with it

>Expanding the focus to the whole family isn't the problem.
I disagree. Beth and Jerry worked better as side characters, and Summer was better as an occasional guest on adventures. We waste so much time on their bullshit.

Also, the show can't decide if it wants to be taken seriously or not--it flip-flops every other episode on that.

I slime just remembering that short.

This. I need some kind of documentary after it's all over that really spills the beans. Justin doesn't even attend virtual panels for the show anymore, so he must REALLY resent the Rick and Morty's long-lasting success. It's gotta feel like more of a chore now than anything.

Attached: oh god.jpg (650x362, 30.82K)

>Justin telling how much he hated the show and Dan along with it
didn't Dan act like a baby one time when Justin said something like they aren't friends? something along the lines of Roiland making a minor comment, and fat boy getting upset that Roiland wasn't warm enough in talking about him.

Harmon felt betrayed when Roiland ran off to make his own separate show with another Rick and Morty writer. I guess Harmon must've thought the two of them were some TV-writing duo now or something, but Roiland had his own projects he wanted to do with different people.

>Beth and Jerry worked better as side characters,
They basically still are. I thought Beth & Jerry were pretty funny in the Mr. Nimbus, Decoys, and Planetina episodes. Even the Beth clone finale from last season was a fun use of the characters.

>and Summer was better as an occasional guest on adventures
Summer is shit now. She's rarely ever funny, and I agree that they either need to reevaluate how to write her or just cut down her screen-time entirely.

>it flip-flops every other episode on [if it wants to be taken seriously or not]
Hasn't the show always maintained that balance? And if you're talking about the fourth wall breaks and jabs at the audience, that all comes from Rick. I personally find it funny how he's always pissed about plot progression. It's almost like he wants to maintain a status quo and carry on with his fantasy family in the Central Finite Curve without having to reveal his past to anyone or deal with actual threats in the actual infinite multiverse…

Only time I've laughed at Rick and Morty since the imposter parasite episode.

Habzin Hotle says hi

We may have opposing views on the current state of the show, but we can at least agree true parasite episode is the absolute best of the series.

>I thought Beth & Jerry were pretty funny in the first three episodes of the season
And what happened after that?

Am I the only one who saw the pilot on YouTube in like 2009? Someone I subscribed to favorited it, and you would see favorites on the front page back then. I don't think it had many views at the time. It only ever got removed once the show aired.

I came here to post this

WAAAAAAAAY better than the fake Sanchez family episode.

why his hair blue tho

Episode 1 of Solar Opposites basically spells out what happened between them

?

mate

don't tell me what to do.

Michael Cusack is king

>that back-and-forth
Jesus fucking Christ, Dan Harmon is one childish and petty cunt.

Attached: 1650606471819.jpg (500x557, 28.92K)

I'd take this as witty banter if it weren't for the fact that Justin hasn't been in the writers' room since Season 3. He's gotta be sick of working with Dan at this point.

Attached: Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon.jpg (2048x1365, 297.77K)

>?
What is in question here?

I don’t wanna watch Solar Opposites, gimme a quick rundown

I mean, it's no secret after Community that Dan Harmon is a legitimately awful person, both to work with and on a moral level. Can only imagine the shit Justin has had to deal with.

It pains me to see every behind-the-scenes featurette in the latest seasons and not have Roiland pop up even once. His heart just isn't in it anymore. I'm sure the new writers are doing their best, but they're all still working in such an awkward environment, led by Dan Harmon no less.

I enjoyed it til S3E10

everything to episode 6 actually really impressed me

Two aliens on earth see a funny TV character go on adventures (including piano wire assassination of Roiland in his own car and he's wearing a hulu shirt), bring him to life (make him Real) and hang out with him, the character ends up hanging with some bros instead. Aliens make a new version of that character that ends up monstrous and deformed, it fuses with the original into a larger monster. The bros accept the shrunk down version of the fused deformity anyway.

You mean Season 3 Episodes 6-9 really impressed you?

I love how Cusack flipped the entire show family dynamics with Rick being in terrible relationship with Beth and best buddies with Jerry instead.

Put the witchetty grub on yer cock.

I love Dox & Mharti, unironically.

It's amazing how Roiland was able to parody Doc Brown and make the character his own by simply coming up with a powerfully iconic color palette. Now you can't picture anything other than Rick Sanchez when you pair up pale blue, gray, white.

Family Guy's first episode was hand-animated and looks great though.

wow!

>soulless modern sitcom tier
Rick and Morty is definitely several steps above that. Each episode feels like a 22-minute movie.

not really, the obvious use of puppetry and the complete lack of any line weight and usually of any defined detail on the characters makes it look like shit.
The animators are definitely trying, but they're stuck with a shit art style.

Maybe it's 'cause I've always had a soft spot for crude cartoon styles (always loved the look of Groening's shows, big fan of the weird Bob's Burgers style), but Rick and Morty does a lot of cool stuff visually. The rigged animation, while obvious, is very expressive whenever the characters gesticulate. You're right about the uniform line art, but I don't think that nor the adherence to mimicking Justin Roiland's crude style prevents new character designs from looking pretty neat. The detail and variety in costume design, character proportions, and color palettes are a far cry from how limited the designs were back in Season 1.

The gorgeous background art needn't be explained, but some of of the shot choices and action sequences can feel pretty cinematic, too. Makes it feel like the shit Futurama was able to do back in the early 2000s, but on an even grander scale. In my eyes, each Rick and Morty episode really does feel like a major event to some degree.

Attached: 1593399043235.png (2975x1080, 2.21M)

the backgrounds, props, designs and even effects can be really cool, but the modelling and animation of characters lends more to the dialogue sitcom style and the action scenes always feel flat and weightless

Wakfu uses similar animation principles and looks infinitely better. It's backgrounds and props do too, for that matter. the bar for animation in the west is extremely low at the moment.

>one of the precursor of R&M was a deliberately terrible show called "The Unmarketables"
>cut to 2022, Rick & Morty is nothing but a brand with no substance

Who could've ever guessed Justin Roiland would end up making one of THE most marketable cartoons of all time?
