"Rest and Ricklaxation" is one of my favorite episodes of the entire series because it tells us so much about how Rick and Morty each perceive themselves. Had Morty gone on to live as Detox Morty, he'd still only be half of what makes him Morty. Abandoning all his qualities that he deems "toxic" would make it so that he wouldn't really be living as his true self, even with how far he was able to advance in life with only his perceived "good" qualities. Detox Morty basically had no soul. I guess that might've been the intent behind making him a Wall Street big shot. And you saw how he intimidated Jessica on their date when his confidence had no restraints.

Oh don't get me wrong; had I been in the same situation and had the opportunity to literally remove all of my perceived worst qualities to become a millionaire with a hot wife, I def would've stayed that way. But this episode was trying to ring true to real life, in that those "toxins" can't just be removed at the push of a button; you gotta put in the work to make your true, full self the best it can be. We really have no choice but to better ourselves and overcome whatever hindrances keep us from reaching our true potential. That episode was 2+ seasons ago, and we've definitely seen Morty grow more into his own as of late while still retaining that emotional side of him who cares for others and knows when to hold back. Goes to show that he's always had it in him to be a badass with some clever tricks up his sleeves. Justin casually breaks down everything that 2-minute featurette is trying to get across:
