If a Steel movie gets made people will start complaining about Blacks latching onto Steel, like they did with Black Panther.

That's kinda where I'm at. I have no problem with a black Superman. Hell, I don't even have a problem with an alternate, black version of Superman being his world's Clark Kent, instead of Calvin Ellis or Val Zod.

The problem is that WB has no interest in making movies with the regular, default, white Superman. It doesn't seem like this movie is going to be in ADDITION TO making, say, Superman films with Henry Cavill or something. It's a REPLACEMENT FOR that. They're not doing it like Todd Phillips Joker, where they explore an alternate and fresh take of the character, without derailing what Reeves was doing.

I think that's kind of a bummer, especially because they haven't made a straight up Superman movie since the '80s.

Imagine if they let Coates/Abrams do their thing, they did allowed Cavill to come back for solo movies with a competent director to do their thing, and somewhere along the line, we get a Superman Beyond thing where these two guys and other Supermen unite to save the multiverse.

Nope. They don't wanna do that. They'll do a million versions of Batman and Joker, but they have no faith in Superman. It doesn't feel like this is a "we wanna celebrate how many cool ways there are to do Superman by doing another cool version" thing. From what I heard, they had no plans for a proper Superman movie, but wanted him to come back for small cameos, like Shazam. He refused to return to the role unless it was something of substance. He wanted a proper movie.

Of course audiences found him boring. He was in movies that give Superman nothing to do. MoS sets up this theme of having self-determination instead of doing what you're "supposed" to do by having Kal be the first non-designer baby in generations. And the script still has him wandering around moping and hiding himself because Earth Dad told him so, and then putting on a costume and flying because Space Dad told him so, and then revealing himself because Zod told him so. He has no character or agency, he just reacts to things happening.

BvS gave him less screentime than Spidey in Civil War. It consists of him looking sad as people on CNN talk about him, and looking miserable any time he has to save somebody. The movie is about Batman and his motivations.

Then he's dead for 75% of Justice League.

Cavil was never given a chance.

He was seeking the reason he was on Earth, found it turned into a superhero when an alien threat arrived. Of course it was depressing when you have to wander and hide your true self, he couldn't stay anywhere because he kept savings people and having to leave. It was part of his burden as an alien being. He always had agency, he simply had others give him guidance like taking the time to find out why he was on Earth before making a giant life altering decision as to what he is going to do with his life. All Zod did was give a venue for Clark to become a public hero and win people's trust.

BvS is about his existence being a polarizing event and Clark learning to live with the hardships and consequences of his choice, like some people not liking him and trying to destroy and vilify him and trying to smear his actions.

In Justice League he is Earth's ultimate hope and savior. Just because you're too brain-dead to understand the grand narrative because it doesn't follow a typical cartoon structure does not make Cavill's Superman bad.
