The Pale King

Yeah except beaners and Canucks get mad if you call them American, try it

Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville
Yes, it's still relevant.

I was going to say, it's amazing how accurately de Tocqueville nailed America's core character, and that was more than 150 years ago. It IS still a highly accurate description of what most Americans are like.

Based.

But hey "they" invented jazz so, you know, give credit where its due.

Probably Hunter S Thompson, no?

Tom Wolfe’s stuff is exquisite.

Do you rate this anyone?

Lasch is sort of like the American Adorno. His critiques of the left that emerged from the 60s/70s hold up very well today.

“Cultural radicalism has become so fashionable, and so pernicious in the support it unwittingly provides for the status quo, that any criticism of contemporary society that hopes to get beneath the surface has to criticise, at the same time, much of what currently goes under the name of radicalism”

"“The atmosphere in which the Weathermen lived - an atmosphere of violence, danger, drugs, sexual promiscuity, moral and psychic chaos - derived not so much from an older revolutionary tradition as from the turmoil and narcissistic anguish of contemporary America”

If this sort of angle appeals to you, I'd recommend it.

Imagine being so fat that, upon your enormous weight tipping over your mobility scooter, you're reduced to flailing around on a wall of 12-packs of soda. Everything about that is immensely sad. I don't understand how someone continue to make poor decisions past the point of their weight going past a manageable amount. Perhaps that's something about being an American that I'm missing despite being one

There's also Bells Cultural contradictions of capitalism which goes very well with the Culture of narcissism.

Not really, it applies mostly to 90s pop culture and would feel very dated if he did not take things to such extremes to allow for a wide range of interpretation.

I often feel like I live in Fahrenheit 451 minus the book burning.

I work a job where i am constantly going into other peoples homes and learning about their medical problems, you would be surprised at the absolutely hellish living conditions people will put themselves through on a daily basis, i dont really think its an american thing, i think its more just following the path of least resistance

the culture industry

And don't forget every modern convenience in your shitty country as well.

White Noise

America's not a continent, "the Americas" are two continents. America is a country (USA). An idiot made this.

We are raised soft. Simple as that

Pretty much anything by John Steinbeck will give you insight into the real American culture.

I second this recommendation.

Lasch is extraordinarily good.

I agree that Steinbeck nails the real shit beneath all the excess and spectacle (at least where I live, pretty close to his stomping grounds). Seems like less and less of it is going around all the time, though, and it's really only alive outside the big cities.

I'd say he covers a certain subset of American culture. He was best of all Boomers, the guy that rode the tiger that was the middle of the 20th century better than anyone else, wrote down what he discovered, and pulled the plug before the Bush era could really set in. But outside of the 60's and its aftershocks, I'm not sure how representative he is.

One of the worst inventions ever.

«THE AMERICAS» IS A SPURIOUS TERM CREATED BY UNITEDSTATIANS AFTER THEY USURPED THE CONTINENT'S NAME FOR THEIR NAMELESS COUNTRY—WHY DO YOU THINK THAT ONLY ANGLOAMERICANS, AND ANGLOPHONES IN GENERAL, REFER TO AMERICA AS «THE AMERICAS»?

Declaration of Independence followed up by the bill of rights

t. Adorno

Go back to your side of the wall, Pedro.

Why do you write in caps all the time and change your trip so often ?

ARE YOU REFERRING TO THAT WALL AT UNITEDSTATES' SOUTHERN BORDER, INTENDED TO KEEP THE «GOYIM» INSIDE?

YOU SHOULD STOP POSTING.

America by Baudrillard is the gold standard.

WHY DO YOU WRITE LIKE THIS ?
FOR REAL THOUGH, WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH IT.
ARE YOU SHOUTING ? TRYING TO GET OUR ATTENTION OR WHAT ?
YOU FREAK ME OUT. ARE YOU A NAZI ?

American culture is better reflected in our theatrical art

shit up and go back to larping as a Mexican Nazi on /fa/

I don't see any critique there, just unsubstantiated attacks.

he wants to feel like he has friends, or at least people who would talk to him, and he's a complete recluse.

he dresses like mosley with swastikas and takes pictures to try making his chin look bigger and nose look smaller, often overlaying them with text like
M I L L N I A L
B A R O Q U E I S M

Get help.

You might want to check out Lasch. Heard his stuff is good.

I have a good amount of his books on my list. Need to read him sometime.

I'm reading the bible and I can't stop laughing. Help.

isn't there a canal severing the "continent" in two which is why it is called the "americas"?

>you have to play shit music before you can critique it

>jazzfag can't read
Imagine my shock.
youtu.be/TE7949ypVCw

The Africans invented that.
