Sad. I liked their recent Godzilla comics.

Can Scott Snyder and the other indie crew save them?

They need a new flagship series that can pull 40k on the regular and even then their other creator owned endeavors need to stop bombing

RIP IDW

Can someone do the Jeb Bush meme with Todd McFarlane, Eric Stephebson, or the Image logo?

This. They lose a ton of licenses, decide to make a big push on a line of original comics which all read as Netflix pitches.

A week later Netflix is in financial collapse.

They won't die but they'll definitely shrink if they don't get shit together

This is what happens when you pander mostly to licenseshitters

It's still one of their most successful series especially crossover with Power Rangers.

What's image got going on that more than tripled their sales in two years?

>series
Godzilla hasn't had an ongoing in ages
It's just minis and one-shots recently (not complaining) and they do perform at 10k at best
The MMPR crossover landed 28.5k which is good but that was a first issue

>Sonic comics will die once again

From the top of my head
>The Department of Truth
>Saga's return
>Spawn actually selling well again and Todd pumping three more ongoing
>Invincible's cartoon leading to increased trade sales

They've been losing money for years, I think this was a Hail Mary.

When several companies pull their licenses from a specific company at the same time, it's typically because they have some bad info regarding said company.

They were hoping to show profitability in 2021, news flash, they didn't.

What's the name of the guy that tried to warn IDW against relying on licenses too much and got lambasted by TFfags?

Eric Stephenson
Guy in charge of Image central
>Like I said, THE WALKING DEAD comic book was selling great before it was a television show.
>Now it sells even better.
>And that’s because the show made people aware of the comic – and those people came to your stores to get that comic.
>Because they want the real thing.
>TRANSFORMERS comics will never be the real thing.
>GI JOE comics will never be the real thing.
>STAR WARS comics will never be the real thing.
>Those comics are for fans that love the real thing so much, they want more – but there’s the important thing to understand:
>They don’t want more comics – they just want more of the thing they love.
>Those comics are accessories to an existing interest, an add-on, an upsell, easy surplus for the parent products – icing on the cake.

So what ? As long as they buy the comics, it doesn't matter.

The problems with IDW being reliant on licensing is that the licensors are pulling said licenses, which in turn is most likely because IDW hasn't been able to make a profit of said licensed properties and are now going bankcrupt.

As to why they've failed, I know they atleast went hard on identity politics both with GI Joe and Transformers.

>identity politics
>transformers
Did a character identify as an attack helicopter?

>So what ? As long as they buy the comics, it doesn't matter.
Licenseshitters don't really buy comics
Compare the attention and discussion IDW Sonic gets to how much it actually sells

Trans women Transformers, I shit you not

>Ted Adams, publisher of IDW writes,
>My Little Pony has brought in tens of thousands of new readers to comic shops. I've been traveling a lot in the US and every city I visit, I stop in to the local shops to learn what's working and what isn't. Every single store I've visited tells me that MLP comics have brought kids into their shops in a way that no other title has. This has led many stores to start or increase the size of sections aimed directly at kids. In case it's not obvious, over time, kids reading comics turns into teenagers and adults reading comics. We all had to start reading comics somewhere and even though those comics aren't "real" in Eric's world, they are for the kids who love them.

That audience didn't stay for comics as a medium
They were solely in it for the IP
Licenseshit barely encourages actual comic fans

Honestly it's less that they decreased and more how everyone else skyrocketed

What the fuck made IMAGE spike so hard?

See: Image also has a whole bunch of new series that are selling well like Radiant Black.

Invincible trades sold insanely well after the show.
Saga returned.
Steady stream of decent comics.
I think Todd is even doing comics again.

Imagebros now's our time. The Big Two are dying, soon we will rule the comics universe.

Tons of gay / tranny shit and characters generally being written like Californian faggots

I don't really understand all the business stuff but Yea Forums has been telling me for years that the Diamond monopoly is to blame for comics selling so poorly now that they are almost gone will things get better?

I remember Dave Willis made a strip about him

You also need
>better marketing
>tearing down the misconception that it's all Marvel and DC
>better affordability

>I think Todd is even doing comics again.
The Spawn Universe stuff is doing shockingly well
I thought it'll be Todd's rude awakening but here we are

I think more importantly, there have been less hiatuses

Blahblahblah, don't you people ever sick of being so gloom and doom?

A toast for that

Shut up Boco.

No.

lol nice

Shut up Boco

I get tired of folks just drawing big conclusions from random data.

Is this gloom and doom though? Lesser publishers are doing well. That's great news!

No.

That too.

I don't follow Dynamite
What the fuck did they do?

See Shit's been consistent and IDW's current plans reflect that

Oh shit it's Satan Boco, he ain't fucking around

Tons of books with no long term plan that fizzle out after the first story arc but have surprise success for those first few issues.

And maybe colorized Walking Dead reprints.

>I remember Dave Willis made a strip about him
I remember Dave Willis used to be funny, guess it was before he wrote that one.

check'd

does this mean more people are reading comics or they just sold more ?

Licensed comics were a dead end for IDW, they only ever attracted the diehard true fanatics without holding any appeal for a wider audience. The Last Ronin is the only book that managed to attract new readers, and that was hobbled by the delays. There will be some growing pains with focusing on original series, but they only need one hit to come out of this stronger than they were.

Was IDW the publisher for the TMNT comic that the tranny artist added their self-insert OC into

No, because that OC was created by the head writer for the first 100 issues.

First TF run had a couple of trans characters, Both runs had a handful of homoromantic relationships. It really wasn't that intrusive, if you dislike the mere existence of that.

What was intrusive was the first run having to make a big deal about the existence of female Transformers because one guy had to be weird about it early into the canon.

>Simon Furman
Of course, who else?

Kek. Overall nice to see the smaller guys getting more pie though.

Gonna be honest
IDWfags are the Funkofags of comics

Thanks for the timeline compilation, user.

It means publishers that aren't DC or Marvel have been selling more comics. Except for IDW. Overall they almost doubled sales since two years ago. Which is really good. Except for IDW.

Remember when IDW did Borderlands comics?
Remember when IDW did Duke Nukem comics?
Remember when IDW did Jurassic Park comics?
Remember when IDW did Back to the Future comics?
Remember when IDW did KISS comics?
Remember when IDW did Cartoon Network comics?
Remember when IDW did 2008 Election comics?
Remember when IDW did Spumco comics?
Remember when IDW did Littlest Pet Shop comics?
Remember when IDW did Metal Gear Solid comics?
Remember when IDW did Ghostbusters comics?
Remember when IDW did Angry Birds comics?
Remember when IDW did Skylanders comics?
Remember when IDW did X Files comics?
Remember when IDW did Napoleon Dynamite comics?
Remember when IDW did Tangled comics?

Man, their Duke Nukem comic was so good...
