Amelia Bedelia Storytime!

Hello, hello! Happy Arbor Day all! Excited to be here again with another storytime of an Amelia Bedelia book for all of you kind anons :) Since it's Spring we'll be doing something hopefully in season (since the first pitch was just a few weeks ago) with "Play Ball, Amelia Bedelia", which will also be the first Tripp-illustrated book I've storytimed!

There were two other books I'd considered for this thread that would be perfect, the brand-new "Amelia Bedelia Hops To It" and "Amelia Bedelia Cleans Up", though these were both hundred-odd page chapter books so I opted not to. Likewise I'd like to apologize for letting the last thread get ahead of me and 404 as early as it did, but I'd say better that than necrobumping for another week. Without further ado, though, let's play ball!

>"A holm run? Sir I don't think a dash across the river is very wise..."

>"You need a pinch hitter? Try and give me one and you'll see how much of a hitter I am!"

Attached: 2.jpg (868x685, 95.82K)

>"You want a fast ball? I don't think starving it's gonna make it any faster..."

BEST THREAD TIME

>"You want to switch the pitchers? But I just refilled this one!"

Whoops! Over eager.
>"Bean the batter? I don't see why... maybe a full stomach is worse to play on?"

Attached: 4.jpg (866x684, 61.48K)

>"Vest thread? No, this is knitted, user."
>"You need me to stop throwing balls!? Isn't that the point of the game?"

Attached: 5.jpg (868x685, 106.68K)

>"Oh so you want me to *throw strikes* instead... I'm sorry sir but I'm no Pinkerton, either."

Attached: 6.jpg (871x688, 101.26K)

>"Stop aiming the ball?! How am I supposed to get it to the catcher?"

Attached: 7.jpg (868x685, 73.73K)

>"Bottom of the fifth?! Have you been drinking again, coach?"

Attached: 8.jpg (863x684, 94.94K)

>"A dying quail's on the field? Why aren't we helping!?"

Attached: 9.jpg (869x686, 108.48K)

>"You're sending me to the *bullpen*? I guess I should have brought a red sheet with my glove..."

Attached: 10.jpg (871x686, 113.77K)

>"You want me to bundt? Coach I'd be happy to, if you could procure an oven!"

Attached: 11.jpg (870x687, 100.19K)

>"Choke up on the bat? Sir I could hardly swing with it there!"

Attached: 12.jpg (867x688, 96.58K)

>"We're playing a crackerbox today? The park seems awfully bigger than *that*, sir..."

Attached: 13.jpg (868x688, 94.32K)

>"Doctor the ball? It looks fine to me, sir, and I hardly think I'm qualified..."

Attached: 14.jpg (872x685, 90.29K)

>"Fan the batter? How's it my job to keep him cool!"

Attached: 15.jpg (869x687, 116.59K)

>"A fowl ball? Are there any birds on the field now?"

Attached: 16.jpg (870x682, 95.65K)

>"A funko bat? Sir, not to be rude, but I'd like to keep that brand as far away from the game as possible."

Attached: 17.jpg (870x685, 79.42K)

>"Give the batter gas? Are you asking me to bean him again, then?"

Attached: 18.jpg (871x686, 96.21K)

>"You want me to hit a GRANNY?! Sir the bases are loaded, how could you say such a thing!"

Attached: 19.jpg (868x687, 90.41K)

>"A home run Derby? I didn't know they played baseball all the way over there!"

Attached: 20.jpg (871x687, 104.18K)

>"You want a breaking ball this throw? Well this ball's much too new, sir..."

Attached: 21.jpg (870x686, 108.5K)

>"Freeze the hitter? Okay, *now* I can fan him!"

Attached: 22.jpg (873x688, 99.05K)

>"You think I *muffed* the last play?! Sir, I- You can't say such things!"

Attached: 23.jpg (869x685, 99.92K)

>"You said we won a no-hitter? But sir the other team had plenty of hitters! Not very good ones, but still!"

Attached: 24.jpg (870x687, 117.65K)

>"You're putting me out on the rug, sir? But I don't see any carpet here..."

Attached: 25.jpg (872x686, 90.63K)

>"Painting sir? I don't know how good it is here, sir, but I'm an excellent painter if you have a brush!"

Attached: 26.jpg (872x687, 114.48K)

>"Peg first base?! Sir I hardly know him *that* well!"

Attached: 27.jpg (869x686, 99.87K)

>"Put a hurt on the ball? What'd he ever do to me?"

Attached: 28.jpg (868x687, 82.38K)

>"Coach got rung up? What'd he buy- and where is he?"

Attached: 29.jpg (864x686, 94.83K)

>"Hit the sack? Sir why would I be napping now?"

Attached: 30.jpg (868x684, 99.43K)

>"A sinker? Wouldn't we need a plumber?"

Attached: 31.jpg (870x686, 99.48K)

>"That pitcher's a southpaw? His hand seems pretty normal to me..."

Attached: 32.jpg (871x686, 112.21K)

>"You want three home runs by the end of the *stanza*? Do you have a pen and paper for this poem, coach?"

Attached: 33.jpg (874x685, 102.64K)

>"A switch hitter's up next? I hardly see how punishing the ball is better than a bat... how barbaric."

Attached: 34.jpg (886x685, 111.71K)

>"You want me to walk the next hitter? Again sir with the undue intimacy!"
(Assume an indignant harrumph here)

The end! I'd like to thank the wikipedia glossary of baseball terms for adequate pun-fodder, and a few laughs too. That's it for the (first) storytime, now just bumping and discussing! It was a lot of fun doing a book with a different illustrator than the Sweat-Amelia we're all used to- Wallace Tripp's Amelia is a lot more homely and I love the way Tripp draws motion and expression in this book. It's unfortunate he only illustrated two, but I'd be happy to do the other one in the future!

And of course happy Easter to those who celebrate it! And Earth Day too :)
>"A pompous pilot? Remind me not to fly with them any time soon..."

Homina homina!

>"A bunny suit, sir? That seems very inhumane..."

I love her brehs....

>"You love my bresse, sir? I'm quite fond of my hens as well!"

Bit of a slower start to the thread than I'd hoped, so if any lurking anons have greentext ideas feel free to drop them! I'll see what I can do in terms of some little stories :D

I like Tripp's Amelia design best. She has a homely but caring demeanor. Too bad he only did two of the books.

I like it too! I think I like Sweat's a bit more because she feels younger, but Tripp definitely nails the motion/action/expression in his art, and I'd love to see what a fusion between his Amelia and Sweat's would look like.

Probably about time I threw some color on that one.

Heading to bed now so I did wanna ask- barring the somewhat obvious constraints to posting chapter books (they'd be 60 or so images), they are still illustrated. So- would you like to see them incorporated into future Amelia threads as either OP books, mid-thread books or, what I was thinking, something to the tune of a mega or a catbox?
Amazing as always HB, thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you're doing well :D

Can't complain. My RL day job is getting close to something big that I'm excited about (sorry, no details), so I'm in a good mood lately. Hope you're having a great day, too!

The algorithm knows your tastes well, user.

Amelia looks kind of different from the other books here, it's cute. She looks a little dopier

That's Tripp for you. His version of her is very distinctive.
