The tediousness of traversing the terrain by the player is an integral part of the entire experience and no other media format could replicate it. IMO Kojima's big mistake other than the usual wacky pottery he loves in the narrative was that he was afraid to fully flesh out some of the gameplay ideas and give the player more control over interacting with the game world.
