I never see it discussed but Monsterverse has some great title sequences, great use of archival footage. Title sequences is something that not a lot of movies do. Bond still does thank God.

That's what a monster of ridiculous proportion would look like if you wanted it to seem like it can support its own weight rather than be a guy in a costume. Straight up rather than stooped over (like the idiotic Zilla design which couldn't possibly stand up on its own weight), enormous legs, tail and mid section, smaller head.
It's not an attempt at pure "realism" because he's still a giant monster shooting fire breath, but more intended to make him seem believable walking around. Same thing with the alternations to Ghidorah's torso and legs, since it's no longer required to accommodate a man in a suit, and same with Mothra's much different proportions and larger wings.

He didn't feel so weird in 2014, it's like dougherty tried to compromise by turning godzilla into a more traditional version of the creature but he still had to keep the basis that was made with a completely different direction in mind. Godzilla is by far the weakest monster design in kotm.

I watched all the heisei stuff after kotm, and I was amazed at how much more enjoyable it was to watch guys in suits and other practical effetcs than a 200 million cgfest.
