Destiny Deoxys is one of my favorites. Pokemon 4 is good animation-wise, still just as good as the first three, but I think the story and plot is weaker. The Lucario movie I think is alright. I kind of stopped watching the Pokemon anime all together after they changed the VAs. I think Deoxys is the only generation 3 movie that has Ash's OG voice AFAIK.
DD is kino though, I can vouch, although not quite as kino as the first few.

I used to be like you and think Pokemon was gay and it was just nostalgia until I watched them recently and really appreciated the environments and the care put into bringing the world to life. Very much unlike movies of today.
Many people criticise this, but I really love the structure of Ghibli movies.
They generally -have climaxes- but Miyazaki/Takahata both tend to lose interest in building tension before the climax arraives. Or rather, they reject the stakes that they have originally set out as the films plot and replace them with the emotional issues and character development which actually interest them.
In Spirited Away, after Chihiro leaves on the train, everyone is basically on her side. And she hasn't escaped the world, or rescued her parents, but the film doesn't press home the 'thrill' of her doing either of those things as a conventional climax. It's like the climax is given to her character rather than the plot.
The same thing happens in Porco Rosso. There's this big climactic fight but it turns out to be immensely silly and instead of actually ramping up to something exciting, we're left with something poignant.
Normally films do that, turn it all down, give a moment to the characters and a goodbye to the world of the film, after the climax, but Ghibli films, very deliberately, do it -before- the climax.
I've always found typical climaxes to be anticlimactic, especially in very good films where they have so much to live up to. And then, for the epilogue of the film to be self indulgent and overstaying its welcome. But Ghibli films don't really stop, or rather, they don't stop near the end, they stop almost midway through. So they hang in your imagination and feel more like a world you've visited and can visit again, than three acts of rising tension.
