>How does this work?
>It works like a community toy chest. In the /coc/ threads you are free to post whatever ideas/settings/characters you want, but you have to be OK with other people playing with them (tweaking them, putting them in stories, using them for things, etc.)
>There's no guarantee that what you post will catch on either.
>If the OC you are posting is YOURS for something you are personally doing, then it would go to the "How is your webcomic?" threads.
>If you just want feedback on an OC of yours, then it would go in the "donut steel" threads or drawthreads.

Happy 10 year anniversary, to the day, for Shark Lass!
Also, OLD ARCHIVE DISCOVERED! (probably old news, but I only just found out about it and nobody told me)
old.sage.moe
Yea Forums threads from 2006 - 2008 on there. Lots of character origin threads, but no pics.
Already posted this super-original idea on the last thread, but what about a woman superhero, that in her private life is the perfect wife for her husband and in her secret life is a super-hero that fights the crime?
This is perfect and looks vintage enough
What a gem from animation.
alright i'm thinking of creating public domain expies of technically public domain but trademarked characters. all i have so far is one name. Oliver Branch/Armistice

I was hoping the thread about the 'superhero contest' idea would be here, but alas. If it happened between 2008 and 2014 it seems to have been lost to time completely
Which characters came out of that thread?
I put this """game""" together as the last thing I could contribute to the /coc/ before I have to go to a place with poor internet for several months. Hope you all get some enjoyment out of it!

Also keep Yea Forumsdie relevant while I'm gone
Dang, good stuff. You have inspired me to get back in to unity and try more of what I was doing. It begins.
Best of luck to you in your new place.
That's really cool!
I'm pleasantly surprised it isn't a rickroll.
Any specifics to this idea? Personality? Powers?
None that got into /coc/ proper. In fact this may have been before /coc/ was established as a weekly thread. I'll try to write down what I remember of it.
The thread started out with an user wanting to pitch a 'female protagonist in space' project, as a childrens' cartoon or webcomic. There were a couple suggestions but the one that got the most traction until the thread died, was a contest similar to Wacky Races [with the venue changing from state to state], where registered heroes would compete for the most points by rescuing citizens. Between the morally-dubious scoring system [richer/more influential citizen = worth more points] and heroes/villains/citizens running scams or staged rescues or just trying to sabotage one another, the protagonist would be a selfless unregistered hero who would inadvertently foil many of these scams/sabotages, either directly or through a series of events. A big-name hero at the start of the contest, relying on these sorts of schemes, would find their reputation shredded as time went on.
Eventually a rival character would ambush the protagonist and accidentally fill her in on the workings of the contest, at which point her goal would change from broad altruism to putting a stop to the contest proper without getting caught out.
I have two ideas. The two come with the basic superhero powers (flying, super-speed, strength and overall intelligence) and overall, I imagine her as a tall woman with some muscle.
a) Either some powers that can make her skin hard as diamonds.
b) Shazam-like powers, where she is a normal woman as a housewife, but using some spell can change her body to make her taller and having the super-hero powers. (Having this would make her able to being pregnant and fight the crime at the same time, as they would be different bodies)
Is her husband a low-rate villain or a mook working for a supervillain?
thread got archived before i finished this
Choose a power from this.
finished the other stuff in PS so you'll notice somethings are off here
Super-Hero is the one that suit her the most in my mind.
Also, nice image.
And you're sure this was from 2008?
I was only able to find the exact thread Yea Forumslette was made in by searching for "nico robin's nose" since she wasn't named until the second thread, so if you can remember any exact phrases or names that are semi-unique, then there's a chance it could be in there. If it was from 2008.
Nice. And even more topical now than last thread.
>And you're sure this was from 2008?
If it happened between 2008 and 2014 it seems to have been lost to time completely. But after going through the sage.moe website that ends around 2008 and using "female protagonist", "superhero contest", "hero contest" and "points civilians/citizens/people [delete as necessary]", there doesn't seem to be any signs of the thread on there either. Worst case scenario, we can just reboot the idea in /coc/ proper
I'm digging Super, Shifter, Spy and Artifact myself. And art's not mine sadly, just found it here a while back.
Nicely done
Hopefully a full shark lass comic can be finished
current progress on GG comic
Looks good so far
ok so: based solely on the names of these characters which would (you) want to hear about the most?
>Star-Raid
>Brother Bling
>Living Frankenstein (name probably needs a rework.)
>Atomic Astronaut
>Will Of Steel
>White Lightning
>Dead Dan, The Dullahan
>Whistling Dixie
>>Whistling Dixie
Dare I ask how a character with [presumably] a whistling power, and/or being based on the Confederacy, would work
>>Living Frankenstein
Dare I ask the difference between a dead or living Frankenstein? Is this the doctor or the monster, or both
>Star-Raid
If it’s more of a military commando guy
>Atomic Astronaut
If it’s based on the old trope of sci-fi and space exploration
>Dead Dan, The Dullahan
Just for the alliterations.
>Whistling Dixie
basically a redneck white trash 'the south will rise again' type who gains sonic abilities (during the same accident that gave White Lightning his powers.). what does he do with these abilities? why. commit crime of course.
>Living Frankenstein
the name sucks shit and it's not really indicative of what the character's like. I WOULD have gone with something like "the living zombie" which would have been very slightly better. but it felt too generic. see. the whole schitck of the character is that he dies every night and something horrible takes his place because something something deal with the devil.
someone in one of these threads thought up an actually pretty neat re-name for the Living Frankenstein. so i think i'll end up using it and rework "Living Frankenstein" into a new character. the name in question? Deadhead.(like bedhead. kind of.)
>Deadhead
That's also the name given to fans of Grateful Dead
Define "full"
Well, there is a full comic, but does it meet the criteria for "finished"?
Is that still golden girl?
She's looking older so I wasn't sure if this was later on
unfortunately Star-Raid isn't a military commando type
>Atomic Astronaut
Major Thomas D. Beauregard is a NASA astronaut who's been selected for a space flight and something goes wrong involving a combination of COSMIC RADIATION and nuclear shit. now he's essentially Captain Atom meets Firestorm. sort of.
a fellow named Daniel Johnson, a soldier who fought in the Civil War.. is beheaded by a mystical sword and becomes an immortal Dullahan. (undead creature from Irish folklore if you didn't know).
>basically a redneck white trash 'the south will rise again' type who gains sonic abilities (during the same accident that gave White Lightning his powers.). what does he do with these abilities? why. commit crime of course.
This feels very uncreative, like it's an obligation of a character
>the whole schitck of the character is that he dies every night and something horrible takes his place because something something deal with the devil.
This one is a little better with the theme of mystery [assuming the character isn't aware it's his own doing] or danger/suspense/anticipation [assuming the character is aware and actively tries to stave off sleep, or stave off any monstrous behavior when he inevitably succumbs]. I guess from the name I had different ideas in mind, like a doctor swapping out parts of their own body to upgrade, or use certain parts for more specialist purposes. Whether the character is a professional doctor, or an actual Frankenstein's Monster that is now attempting to repair themselves with their limited knowledge, to limited avail, I don't know
Sounds like the sort who challenges people to drag races on foot. His feet against their cars.
They type who goads people into games of chicken, but keeps going right off of the cliff.
How bout making it like Oku-san where we never see the husbands face, since the story is about the housewife after all.
It's still Golden Girl look on her chest the GG and the same age 15-16, Van just changes his art style once in a while. My favorite one that he's drawn was in volume 2 but I still love this style.
Either make the husband into an actual character with personality, or a cardboard cutout plot device
Latter is easier to do but turns the premise more of a comedy, unless that's what one is going for
Since Oku-san was namedropped I assume the intent is sex-centric comedy similar to Supermoms
Wasn't implying that much; it was the only instance where I can think of something that was about a housewife AND had a faceless husband character
>This feels very uncreative, like it's an obligation of a character.
the bit about him committing crimes?
eh. not every villain has to have some grand motivation.
in my head, Whistling Dixie's a blue collar villain type who just wants to do one of two things. A: make money. or B: have fun. (by, of course. fucking shit up. because that's probably what your average bumfuck redneck would do if given superpowers.)
>This one is a little better with the theme of mystery [assuming the character isn't aware it's his own doing] or danger/suspense/anticipation [assuming the character is aware and actively tries to stave off sleep, or stave off any monstrous behavior when he inevitably succumbs]. that's an absolutely fantastic idea.
>Sounds like the sort who challenges people to drag races on foot. His feet against their cars.
The type who goads people into games of chicken, but keeps going right off of the cliff
White Lightning? that totally sounds like something he would do. in fact. he was a drag racer before gaining super speed.
They could always just satirise the idea of the dynamic, like the parents in Dexter's Lab
Maybe Dixie is a sharpshooter and he's given that name because it's said when he pumps a target full of clean holes, you can hear the wind through them
Didn't know he was a racer before.
Do you guys remember Femme Fatale from the original PPG?
A villain like that, but tsundere for a hero.
>Do you guys remember Femme Fatale from the original PPG?
No
I mentioned last thread or the one before that Bullion's new look sort of reminds me of her.
But what kind of hero is making her lady bits tremble?
>But what kind of hero is making her lady bits tremble?
Well, either since she is misandric, it could a woman superhero, but if you guys don't want to make her a dyke, it could be the male hero that doesn't buy any of her bullshit, acts cold towards her and they always seem to cross paths
>Femme Fatale from the original PPG?
Yes
Lauran Faust has said that on her death bed people will still be yelling at her for making Bendy and Femme Fatale
bump
So you're saying he would be as aloof as possible.
Neat.
I saw that over in the group draw thread.
I feel so, and that would make our misandric girl wet eventually lol
