Slavery was an important part of West African society. It's still present. Almost all black slaves in the Americas were bought from other blacks. The slave trade was over by the time European colonialism penetrated Africa.
They didn't see themselves as selling off fellow Africans. They were making a good profit selling slaves to traders.
What we now call Nigerians, for example, had precolonial plantations for Palm Oil.

That's how much of history worked. Slavery was part of the economy. The fact that whites need to be selectively ashamed is asinine, and any nonretard with an ounce of critical thinking knows this propaganda comes from ulterior motives.

In the same way a rancher can be benevolent. Some slave owners beat their slaves and took advantage of their position but many also treated their slaves kindly and treated them like extended family members, as many today would a farmhand. You rarely see that depicted positively in movies though.
