The Ulysses Cut was made on account of Waterworld being broadcast on ABC. To make it a two-night special, they padded it out by adding a bunch of cut stuff that didn't make the theatrical version. At the same time, they cut out some of the racier stuff. The Ulysses Cut is all of the stuff from the theatrical version, plus all of the extra stuff from the ABC broadcast version.
