That’s why the book was so much better.

It’s a feminist movie so...

Bale carried the film and you know it

women are capable of making good movies, it's just that the HOLY SHIT LOOK GUYS A FUCKING WOMAN DIRECTED THIS SHIT YEAH GIRL POWER DUDE IT'S A FUCKING WOMAN HOLY SHIT GO SEE THIS MOVIE OR ELSE YOU'RE A MISOGYNIST movies rarely do well

when the end result is good, no one cares about the gender?

>DUDE LE URINAL CAKE

No one gave a shit back then. It's only recently that (((they))) have decided to make every identify into a political war.

Ugly women are basiclly men.

Attached: cool it with the anti semetic.gif (250x247, 976K)

>co written
nice try, and everyone likes it for whats from the book, not the camera work or whatever

Lighting in a bottle. The rest of her filmography ranges from "eh watchable" to garbage

Attached: 1399731021042.jpg (225x225, 6K)

...so?

in rare instances women can actually make kino

Attached: 220px-Triumph_des_Willens_poster.jpg (220x412, 38K)

Nobody watches the movie for the plot it’s for Bales performance

The book is unironically 100x better. The chapter of him trying to order a cheeseburger at a kosher ”restaurant” or when he describes the items in his apartment got left out and they’re hilarious

no lol that director's one previous film before american psycho is about valeri solanas, the ultimate radical feminist
you are retarded

based women

Is this why the murder of his ex was cut out? Also all of the extra interesting Patrick scenes where he chills with his boys?

>Nobody watches the movie for the plot it’s for Bales performance
It's for Eastons funny writing and Bale

>women have only directed one decent movie
how is this possible? are women the women of gender?

sometimes there are competent intelligent women but never as often as men

The source material was written by a man. Writing is the most important aspect of a film, if the initial written source is good the final product has the potential to be good, no matter how many females attempt to butcher it.

Remember Strange Days? Another movie directed by a woman with no political agenda. Man, I miss the 90s.

The burger chapter is kinda kept in, but only the first half where Patrick is walking down the street having a breakdown

it was a shitty adaptation

>watch American Psycho on Yea Forums movienight
>the very next day twitter and Yea Forums are talking about how it was directed by a woman

Attached: my bed.jpg (680x680, 52K)

This, but unironically.

Women can be outliers capable of making kino it’s just much rarer than men because of less IQ standard deviation; they are more clustered around the mean but some still stand out.

Yes I know
Mary Hanon knew went to put her politics aside for the sake of her film

You can have the best script in the world, but if you give it to a bad director it will result in a bad movie.

The problem is the current political climate puts women without talent into places they shoudln't be and then they try shoving their personal politics into movies in a hamfisted manner, making for shitty stories.

I would like a mini series that’s truly faithful to the book, but the problem is, Bale was so fucking good as PB idk if I would want to see another live action Bateman.

The only explanation I can think of for why literal who's twitter screencaps are posted here, is that the person that made the tweet is the one posting it. Go back.

Thats exactly what happened with Fran and LOTR. But the intro monologue by Galadriel was entirely invented by her. Women are good at what they do, but their are not as many creative women as there are men

And the book was written by a literal faggot. What's to explain?

It would have to be a completely different take

Like the fact Gerwig is placed on this high fucking pedestal while Lynne Ramsay is consistently ignored.

To be fair Ellis is now called a Nazi by modern leftists because he has some RW opinions.

an actual good movie instead of YAASSS GURL

Gender is not a real term and is a made up fallacy created by a pedophile doctor who ruined a family and ended up coining the phrase and paving the way for tranny bullshit.

Well I mean if you adapt the book in full, you automatically would have a different take. Book Bateman was far more socially aware, more vicious, and up until the last few chapters, a lot less distant.

even a broken clock is right twice a day
and the original book gets it's point across better too

I hate women and homosexuals.

Attached: 8271321.jpg (1505x484, 81K)

she was probably legitimately talented and not promoted way out of her league like females these days

these are both horrible flicks

>That’s why the book was so much better.
You couldn't be more wrong. The book is better (as books often are), but the adaptation is damn near perfect.

The book is far different. There is no question that Patrick commits his crimes, because outside parties react to them, and are acknowledged. It also shows NYC in a much cooler light.

>Nobody watches the movie for the plot it’s for Bales performance
I watched it for the plot. I love the entire thing.

Ehhh I think the movie cuts out some of the best scenes, like the one where Patrick meets up with his brother, the taxi cab driver scene, the post Christmas party coke binge scene, and the U2 concert scene.

>There is no question that Patrick commits his crimes
Same exact thing in the film

Mary Harron is a great director.

why should I care?

the movie and the book are both kino you faggots

Attached: webm form.webm (302x362, 169K)

at least Joker tried

Women used to know how to write, and how to direct films.

>like the one where Patrick meets up with his brother
You know nothing about adapting a book to a movie. The movie already had enough characters and shoehorning his brother in (unless they wanted to sprinkle mentions of his throughout the script) would have been a mistake. And if I remember correctly don't they meet at Dorsia? That's something you don't want to see as leaving it unseen makes you image how special it is.
>the post Christmas party coke binge scene
Gratuitious. They showed numerous scenes of them partying already.
> U2 concert scene.
Good lucking getting U2 for that.
Adaptations have to cut things out. The movie would have been 2 and half hours if they included all the stuff you wanted.

True, but I think the movie did a great job at selecting the best scene and bits of dialogue from the book to get the same thing across. The book gets pretty repetitious.

You plebs are missing the obvious. Women lust after murder-psychos.

"Goodfellas" was based on a book called "Wiseguy" and they had to cut out tons of stuff like Henry being the army, Paulie banging Karen, and they even made Tommy character as a composite character of like 4 guys.

no shit, women are pure evil

The movie is shit since it cuts the most kino scene of the book, the zoo scene

When he kills the kid? If you can't see why they left that out you're a retard.

his performance and the ending are literally the only things I remember from this movie.

>muh controversies
stop being a fucking faggot

doesn't change the fact that the scene improves the story.

they love psychos because they have that "I can fix him" brain

the psycho has to be attractive though

You fags are unbelievably petty, you know that?

FORE

in what way?

>>muh controversies
It's not about controversies you dumb faggot.
Reading about a psycho killing a kid in a book is different than watching him do it in a movie. It would change the entire dynamic of the film. Patrick is the protagonist and something of a quirky killer that the audience feels some odd compassion for. That will disappear when he kills a kid.
They wanted to make Freddy Krueger a child molester but realized it was too dark. You can't have a fun horror movie where he kills teenagers if he was raping 8 year olds. Just the way it is.

>doesn't change the fact that the scene improves the story.
Not really. It's a good scene for the book, but it really wasn't necessary, even in the book. It was very shocking, but all it proved was that Bateman didn't enjoy killing a kid.

What's most interesting about American Psycho is that famous feminist Gloria Steinem condemned the movie and its violence toward women
Gloria Steinem at the time was married to David Bale, Christian Bale's father. His own mother-in-law condemned his movie.

serious yikes

Explain where I'm wrong, faggot without talking like some zoomer retard on instagram.

the world is you user

>its about a white successful guy murdering mostly innocent women
>its not an original work but based on a novel

wow shocker

not the guy you're arguing with but you are definitely right

>omg i like this character that kills people
>wtf i no longer like this character since one of the many people he kills was a child
do americans really think like this?

yes, 100% and not just for americans

>do americans really think like this?
It's the way the world thinks faggot. A woman getting raped is bad, a little girl getting raped is much, much, much worse.

But the dynamic between Sean and Patrick shows how insecure he is in terms of his place in the social hierarchy and it is the one time Patrick is completely bested

Speak for yourself, thin-skin. I couldn't give less of a shit how old the person is being raped.

>Speak for yourself, thin-skin. I couldn't give less of a shit how old the person is being raped.
You're a rare breed, dummy.

Reminder that the Tranny porn Patrick watches in the book is real, google “Shemale Reformatory”.

Yeah, I guess I am rather based..

woah, watch out, we've got the ceo of based over here

please stop smoking weed

>But the dynamic between Sean and Patrick shows how insecure he is in terms of his place in the social hierarchy and it is the one time Patrick is completely bested
They already incorporated that into Paul Allen. (he could get a rez at Dorsia, he has a tanning bed at home, he has the Fischer account, his apartment is better than Patrick's).
Having Sean would have felt so out of place (and actually showing Dorsia would have been a big mistake).

Frumpy women and lesbians are equal to men. The only thing you need to achieve greatness is to accept the fact that no one will ever love you unless you put something out there that makes you stand out. That's the hardest lesson to bear with a smile but necessary for truly great art. The human race is a misery machine and all art that disregards this is for the birds

Frumpy women knows what true loneliness means and lesbians have basically the same mating strategy as men

finally a non retard in this thread

No shit she looks like an ugly man.

You forgot Paul Allen's superior business card.

The really disappointing thing is that the rest of bateman's music reviews didn't make it to the big screen

Go white knight on plebbit ya seething pinhead

when Bret Easton Ellis was working on the script, he was so sick of American Psycho that he wrote a wacky script that ended with a musical number

Harron and the other girl not only did a faithful job, but they rearranged the much looser, more episodic structure of the book and streamlined it into a plot that works better as a movie. they also made some smart choices that probably kept the budget down
-Patrick actually goes to Dorsia a couple times in the book, both in embarrassing circumstances
-we never see Dorsia in the movie, making it more mysterious
-Patrick's apartment is filthy with guts from his victims by the end of the book, but in the movie he's able to keep it spotless

if you love the movie, I absolutely recommend the book. it's like getting way more scenes of the movie, and since you know how the characters speak, it makes the loads of dialog more vivid. it's probably not a Great Book according to people who could make those decisions, but it's definitely a good book.

Damn.
I'm going to watch it again, but in reverse, so that I can unwatch it.

‘We’ve met,’ Alison says, glaring at me.
’Hi Alison. Pat Bateman,’ I say, holding out my hand.
’We’ve met,’ she says again, glaring harder.
’Uh…we have?’ I ask.
Francesca screams, ‘God, look at that profile of Bateman’s. Totally Roman. And those lashes!’ she shrieks.
Daisy smiles approvingly, I play it cool, ignoring them.
I recognise Alison as a girl I did last spring while at the Kentucky Derby with Evelyn and her parents. I remember she screamed when I tried to push my entire arm, gloved and slathered with Vaseline, toothpaste, anything I could find, up into her vagina.
’Well…Hi,’ I smile confidently.”
Is there a greater American novel than American Psycho?

>The really disappointing thing is that the rest of bateman's music reviews didn't make it to the big screen
3 was more than enough.
I personally missed the Patty Winters Show stuff. "This week a boy who falls in love with a box of soap".

>NOOO NOT THE HECKING KIDERINOS

Earlier in the novel he also talks about how he raped some waitress with a hairspray bottle

Kino yelp comments incoming

"Let me start off by Saying I live in the American Gardens building and really know a good restaurant. Got a res for 8:30 at Dorsia. Great Sea Urchin ceviche. I was worried that I wouldn't get in but luckily Paul Allen knew the Maitre D'. They had live music featuring some hits of Phil Collins. I unfortunately had to leave before desert arrived - I had to return some video tapes."

>superio

Seriously? Guess I'm not going to read the book then. Consensual sex is one thing, but rape is just disgusting. Can't get behind bateman if he's gonna be that kind of guy.

women love getting raped though

In the novel he stuck a plastic tube a girls pussy then put a mouse in it.

raw kino

Movie Bateman is far more refined than Book Bateman. In the book Bateman regularly goes through animalistic fits, is attracted to children and trannies, rapes multiple women, and is outwardly racist multiple times.

Says who? Are you a woman? Don't talk about things you don't know about, asshole.

Exeption that proves the rule.

>NOOOO NOT THE RAPERINOOOOOOO

So what you're saying is that book bateman is based?

The book is trash and Bret Easton Ellis is the most overrated American writer of his generation

Sounds based and /mykindaguy/

Attached: Why, yes.jpg (1080x1331, 101K)

If your only selling point is lol woman or lol diversity and not the product itself, its probably shit.

With American Psycho it can stand up without it that hype, although most people only remember it because of Bale and Dubz

>”Torturing and disemboweling men and women? Fine. Raping them? No!”
Weird logic

damn you are one seething npc

lmao

wouldn't really call him overrated when the only thing anybody knows him from is american psycho

American Psycho is feminist propaganda pushing the trope of the violent toxic masculine straight white male.

Radical feminist Gloria Steinem married Christian Bale's dad the same year Bale made this movie. The role he did before that was Jesus of Nazareth, then starts almost exclusively doing violent male roles like American Psycho and Batman.

Christian Bale is feminist propaganda.

Rules of Attraction and Less Than Zero were also hugely popular books

What is there to explain?

for who, nerds? lmao faggot shit

>Flawed but adored male protagonists are feminist propaganda
lmao

fucking christ rules of attraction was god damn awful, both the book and especially the movie.

Less Than Zero immediately got a film adaptation in the 80’s which featured prime Robert Downey Jr.

Yeah, that was a terrible film.
>dude the future will totally be more futuristic than we thought

It may be the only example of the female gaze in film. The movie has an almost obsession with Bale's body.

On July 4th of every year from now on, any Euroqueer or other darkie gook foreigner who uses the phrase "do Americans really" should catch a 3-day.

What would Patrick be diagnosed with anyway? He hallucinates things to the point of complete separation from reality, gets turned on by murder, is narcissistic to an insane degree, what would he be given?

redditism

for me its the rat pipe

Bullshit it didn't have a political agenda. It pushed race-mixing with the scene where Ralph Fiennes kisses the black chick.

Alison Poole is based on a real person. When she was known as Lisa Druck she was Jay McInirney's girlfriend for a bit. When she became Rielle Hunter she got knocked up by Senator John Edwards.

I gotta return some videotapes.

This movie is fucking great. Yes Bale is fantastic in the film but he's not the only good thing about it. It's shot well, it's directed well, it's adapted well, Bale isn't the only person doing a great performance, the sets and costumes are on point (admittedly hard to fuck up in a modern day film but hey it adds to the movie)

The reason the film is so good isn't in spite of the director you bunch of contrarian cunts, she clearly had a large hand in making it so good. You should only be throwing the HURR WOMAN shit at movies that are SPECIFICALLY MARKETED ON THE BASIS THAT WOMEN WERE INVOLVED rather than films that were marketed on them being good fucking films like this one was

The movie was directed by a woman.
It wasn't directed by a woman director.

That's the difference.

Brett Easton Ellis is a full time homosexual now at the time of the book he pretended to be a bisexual hedonistic sort

the movie was good but nowhere near the kino that was the novel. the best parts weren't even adapted
>the u2 concert
>bateman meeting with his brother
>bateman meeting his ex
>bryce's attempted escape of yuppieism isn't even alluded to

Less than zero and rules of attraction are great too

least we do it for free

The cringiest thing I do consistently irl is that I say this when I want to leave a situation I don't want to be in. Don't think anyone's made the connection yet but it cracks me up every time

“I… am… the… devil… and I am… just… like…you.”

this is why women are important
>women invented dubs culture
>women invented redpill culture

Two, you say... odd to have DOUBLE the writing staff I suppose... kinda like these...
.....

>i have to return some video tapes

Some shitty anti-white anti-male propaganda was made by a woman? Absolutely shocking

>Is that a gram?

really can’t stand having to share a board with plebs. if you’ve never seen a larisa shepitko, agnes varda, chantel akerman, celine sciamma, lynne ramsay, or claire denis movie then you’re just a retard flaunting his own ignorance

is just as retarded as
>NOOOOOOO WTF U CANT MAKE A BLACK TRANSBIAN BAD IN THE MOVIE THATS RACIST AND TRANSPHOBIC!!!!

also bateman is a huge chad in this movie and women would be lining up to get fucked by him both in the movie and irl even knowing he was a psycho

This has always been the most overrated movie on Yea Forums by far.

>I remember she screamed when I tried to push my entire arm, gloved and slathered with Vaseline, toothpaste, anything I could find, up into her vagina.
>I imagine her naked, murdered, maggots burrowing, feasting on her stomach, tits blackened by cigarette burns, Libby eating this corpse out.
It's shit like this that makes the movie way better than the books. The book is over the top hilariously 2edgy5me graphic that no-one can read that without having their suspension of disbelief broken.

this post is dangerously redpilled

>we should have gone to Dorsia, I could have gotten us a table
>nobody goes there anymore

Attached: videotapes.jpg (1400x700, 287K)

There's a point here. Book did a better job at showing how pathetic his existence was despite being pretty successful in job and sex life. The book bateman feels much more insane and detached from reality. There's a scene where he supposedly meets Tom Cruise in an elevator and just proceeds to spill his spaghetti. Also, U2's Bono is the devil and he sends Bateman a telepathic message.

it''s alright

What do you want? It’s the actions and thoughts of a psychotic serial killer, they are already edgelords.

So this is what the female gaze looks like

>book written by le gay man
>movie adapted and directed by les womyns
>le main character obsessed with beauty products
>le main character obsessed with pop music
>le main character only kills sluts and annoying or stinky people

Yeah, but i did skip some small parts, like the morning routine. Its ok, I get it, hes fucking "weird". Hate when authors or directors lay shit on so thick that a 3 year old could understand. I did enjoy the book for the most part even though I think Bret is a hack
