George Clooney On Batman

"We talked about this because there were some pages originally written with him that had him, you know, dealing with his parents being dead again and I said, "You know, he's a 35 year old guy who lives in a giant mansion, and has billions of dollars, and goes out with the most beautiful women in the world, and has the coolest toys, and is Batman -- And I don't think anyone is going to feel sorry for and listen to a guy going "Woe is me my parents died when I was four." So the only thing we tried to do was give him a little less weight on his shoulders."

I don't see how that would fit in movie where Arnold makes ice puns.

Of course you wouldn't. You don't know about the 60s TV show and you're humorless and think Batman should be displayed as incompetent and a manchild.

The point was they weren't going to harp on Batman being a whiner all day. Instead make him stand up and in charge and also a father figure to Robin like he's always been in the comics for the majority of his depiction.

That's still a pretty shitty excuse to phone it in so much.
Even if you didn't think him dramatic or sympathetic, you can still think him noble and heroic. Basically act like Adam West levels of intensity to the villains' threats and antics. I mean everything else was 60s batman camp whynot our Batman's acting

It definitely wouldn't have fit the tone of the movie.

Would have helped if they mirrored some of Freeze's scenes where he's clearly thinking about his wife.

Wow!

“ but’66 “ is always a bad excuse for Batman and Robin being bad. Adam West’s Batman had gravitas. He took threats serious and had an intensity to him. Clooney was just really low energy.

This. People liked Adam West Batman in 1966.
People liked Adam West Batman in 1997. People liked Adam West Batman in 2022. Nobody ever liked Batman and Robin at any point.

Its not an excuse. Its silver age Batman and it exists.

Not even silver age Batman, but just Batman and how he's always been even before the Silver Age. Take the humor out and the quote in OP still stands.

How this retard and
got "jokes" out of that instead of seeing that the point of the quote was just beyond retarded. The point wasnt even about anything else other than a well put together and lighter Batman always existed. To even have to explain that shows how many low IQ retards exist today.

Correction, only non-comic reading fags like you cant enjoy Batman & Robin for what it is.

Clooney has always been a pretentious prick. Nobody else has bitched more about being associated with Batman than this guy. He still seethes about it over two decades later. I don't understand why people are still obsessed with his takes when it's a variant of the same thing every time. Kilmer struggled with some of the direction taken during Batman Forever but you don't see him talking shit constantly.

He's not complaining about it. He's just explaining what he was working with. Because he was the title character he gets held responsible for the whole movie even things that arent his fault.

Only thing he's ever done is make light hearted jokes about himself in the movie, he's never had a rotten attitude.

Similarly to how you shouldn't turn Superman too grimdark, you shouldn't make Batman (a guy who dresses up as a boogeyman specifically to instill fear into criminals) a jokey character.
It can be done, but unless it's full blown comedy with very little pathos in between (lego batman), it's not going to be the best approach.
Batman and Robin went too deep into campy porn territory.

I dont think so. It embraces everything Batman is and is more in line with the comic books. It was just rushed and written badly.

>you shouldn't make Batman (a guy who dresses up as a boogeyman specifically to instill fear into criminals) a jokey character.

The whole concept of Batman is a joke. Ever taking him seriously was the major problem

Dilate

Funny Batman = best Batman

Haha, nice idiotic response, typical when proven wrong.

Allow me to break the ice.

But Superman and Batman are buddies though.

This movie cost 160 million dollars (nearly 300 million adjusted for inflation)

Attached: 14ef45f5efc118efb7c143778d56411a.jpg (1277x657, 361.4K)

Miguel Ferrer was twice the actor and twice the person Clooney ever was.

The cherry picking screenshot subterfuge user returns

Making ice out of plastic and gladwrap accounts for 60 million at least. You think that stuff's cheap?

One scene that kinda stuck with me was how at the end of the chase scene, Freeze freezes the Batmobile, and then Batman jettisons out of it and falls towards Freeze's car. And then it immediately cuts to Batman having his cape spread out with Freeze on the ground. So apparently, Batman, like, punched through Freeze's car and hit him so hard that it knocked him out or something.

I was pretty young at the time but I remember how people were excited that Clooney was picked to play Batman.

It was legitimately a good casting idea.

This movie had a budget of 180 million, 85% of it went into explosions.

Maybe part of this is my own bias talking since I could never stand Clooney and his obnoxious, smug faggot face, but he really is just kinda shooting himself in the foot there. I'm all for actors having input on the characters they're playing and how they should be portrayed, but when it's such a long-lasting character like Batman, there are guidelines that should be followed and not just ignored because the actor doesn't think the character is sympathetic. His retarded take on how they should handle Batman ripped away one of the core components of the character that should still be there even if its a campier movie, and consequently turned him into little more than a bat-shaped piece of cardboard when combined with his own garbage-tier acting

Kek seethe, nigger.

Absolutely based. I despise Silver Age Batman.

Not my problem that you hate Batman

Attached: jCUaCit.jpg (644x900, 64.31K)

4 Movies in they cant retread whats already done. They dont even do that in any animated movie and barely the comics.

They probably wouldve touched on it but not having it be the entire movie. For such a long lasting character it's barely been touched in nearly all his comics. I think he was commenting on everyone likes Batman for those reasons, not because everyone relates with being an orphan. So its OK to do a lighter movie.

And also harping on that all day is pretty fucking lame.

>you can't take comic books seriously, you can only have quips and fart jokes
You know things have evolved since your dad was a kid, right?

It's actually you who hates Batman because whats being posted is atleast 50 years worth of Batman characterization, fucking newfag.

Kilmer is the real underrated Batman

The original and modern interpretations are better than a period of comics where everyone was treated the same (as a literal clown)
Even on a purely creative level I don't like it. It has the same problem as soft magic does in fiction.
I prefer less LSD fueled concepts.

You have no idea how cringe youre coming off and its great.

...

Except you're the one defending the cringe.

That's retarded and completely missed the point of cinema
People are going to feel however you want them to feel as long as you set the tone right

Wasn't the whole Alfred dying thing a chance to show how an adult would deal with their parent's death compared to a child?

You're posting a pic that represents maybe 10 years from a Worlds Finest strip and trying to sell it as 50.

Jokes on you if you think comics have changed and arent ridiculous.

>we must have only ridiculous comics because.. we just have to, ok???

Says the adult man defending "serious" comicbooks like theyre all not equally ridiculous and the world isnt laughing at him.

And the irony that a silly movie has a more mature message than your favorite edgelord flicks.

>Reductionists retard post

They make serious adult cartoon movies for serious adults like me now.

Attached: Catwoman_promo (1).jpg (1108x1571, 264.95K)

Yeah, also Batman setting up a Batfamily and making things work for others. The movie with the most adult message happens to be silly. Compared to new movies that sell them selves as serious but are actually immature. And seem more so because of the cope to deliberately hide that theyre comic movies.

>Clooney and his obnoxious, smug faggot face

...You mad?

How would West's Batman handle Ledger's Joker?

Let's kick some ice!

Best scenes are Clooney talking to Gough in the Manor, with no sign of any Batmannery.

Seriously do, what's the point of a mask that only covers your nose. Does she really think nobody's going to be able to id her based on chin, jaw, lips, eyebrows and eyes? What kind of an autist wouldn't recognise someone because they can't see their ears nose and hair.

Attached: Kravitz Catwoman.png (531x665, 420.46K)

He'd whip out his anti-edge spray so Joker stops being such a fag.

>Kilmer struggled with some of the direction taken during Batman Forever but you don't see him talking shit constantly.
>you don't see him talking shit

Unfortunately there’s a reason for that

In all honesty I couldn’t tell her apart from most light skinned black girls already

It's kind of funny that Clooney has played a character that shared a name with a Batman enemy.

Attached: MichaelClayton.jpg (959x492, 261.4K)

even as a kid I couldn't stand how he made that face, like he wasn't even in character, was just George Clooney dressed in a really shitty Batman suit and made an expression like that's exactly what he is
