Dunno, I feel like the same content but spread thinner wouldn't work this well, the amount of plot in every episode is basically unprecedented and it helps the impact. If this was only the S3 finale people would be saying "we waited 3 years for something we already knew??" and all that'd we'd get are SU townie/Amphibia S3A episodes in between.
Don't get me wrong I'd love for the show to get all the episodes it wants or needs, but I think what we ended up with has unique advantages.

It's been pretty cataloged that the Witch Trails, similar to the Crusades, was basically a badly executed attempt to cleanse evil where a lot of dumb attempts were made and in the end they won absolutely nothing and had to quickly find excuses to not admit they fucked up.
The Witch Trials specially ended with no solid proof of actually defeating witches, and was mostly used for people to bitch at their neighbours because their grass were greener or they had more money than them.
Basically noble action, retarded execution which is exactly what Belos is doing cause he'll be wiping out the entire Demon Realm and the Collector will be free to do as it pleases so he would have saved jack n' shit.

In particular his talk about harming one's "soul" seems like a very overt Christian plea that is foreign to the BI inhabitants but he knows it works on masses in general.
