So netflix UK added a bunch of a Studio Ghibli movies and I'm wondering where to start? I think they have them all so throw some suggestions out there.

Start chronologically.

idk where you should start, but i've watched them all and Spirited Away is head and shoulders above the rest

start with nausicaa even though that's pre ghibli

Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa are the only ones worth a damn

This.
Nausicaa
Castle in the Sky
Totoro
Kiki
Porco Rosso
Mononoke
Spirited away.

castle in the sky and porco rosso are good ones as well

Also watch Whisper of the Heart and The Wind Rises.

Such a stupid question.

Not saying this to get weebshitters mad but I think Princess Mononoke is very overrated

fuck, I completely forgot about Porco Rosso. That was my favorite for a long time.

Idk if Cagliostro counts but that one is good as hell too, you don't even need to be familiar with Lupin III to enjoy it.

>watching ghibli films
Nah, thanks. I'm not a woman.

all the contrarians here will give other suggestions, but it's a well known fact that Spirited Away is the best ghibli kino, just look at every review site in fucking existence for confirmation here

It's good but not even close to my favorite Miyazaki. What I don't understand is why Ponyo seems to be so underrated.

This. It's a masterpiece and all the rest are boring, weird, and awkward.

Go to Yea Forums and ask or are you intimidated you fucking redditfugee

i enjoyed watching film 4 when they showed every ghibili movie and plus a handful of others which miyazaki had worked on. what i also liked was that they showed both the english and subbed versions for most of the films

Watch Heidi Girl of the Alps

Filtered.

Wind Rises is best ghibli.

That's because the rest are literal pleb filters

Not even gonna lie, I'd be so fucking out of my depth on Yea Forums it wouldn't even be funny. The last anime I watched was Dragonball Z back when I was about 12.

it's the one that shows Miyazaki's autism the most.

love that earthquake scene so much

Boku no Pico

for me, it's kodomo no jikan

>but it's a well known fact that Spirited Away is the best ghibli kino
jesus...

1. Princess Mononoke & Spirited Away

POWER GAP

3. Porco Rosso
4. Wind Rises
5. My Neighbor Totoro
6. Castle in the Sky
7. Howl's Moving Castle
8. Kiki's Delivery Service
9. Nausica
10. Ponyo

>no power gap between ponyo and the rest

cringe

Seriously, what is it about Ponyo that people think is so bad?

Totoro belongs with Ponyo

Not bad per se but both are toddler-tier

>not liking totoro

Did you have a bad childhood or something

It's good for (little) kids

showed totoro to my niece and she wasn't impressed with the catbus, kinda freaked her out

Firefly and Totoro were a double feature

I like the one about the cute girl and the one about flying

...

The story isn't memorable. I'm having hard time recalling it. Something about a boy rescuing a fish which turns out to be a princess or something. It feels like old trope.

Cagliostro is what put Miyazaki on the map and is a beautiful film

Its not literally a Ghibli movie but I consider it part of the canon

literally kys

So everyone just dies in a few years?

Porco Rosso

That movie started the downfall of Ghibli and gave way to garbage like Howl's.

It's the best for Western audience, right.

Porco rosso is the only ghibli film worth watching

based taste.

>It feels like old trope.
It is. It's basically a Japanese retelling of The Little Mermaid. And in my eyes it is much better than the Disney film. Not trying to say Ponyo is the best Ghibli/Miyazaki here, but I think it's still very special despite being a familiar tale.

Honestly, Mononoke should be last since it's Miyazaki's magnum opus. At least for me anyway.

I really like Castle in the Sky, but that might just be nostalgia and my love of airships talking. Highly recommend eating mushrooms and watching Princess Mononoke.

How Do You Live? is going to be absolute kino.

I was really surprised to learn that Anno didn't work on Castle in the Sky, the robots reminded me a lot of some of the angel designs from Eva. Great film regardless.

didnt he work on the giant robot thing in nausicca?

>pom poko that low

have sex

Yes.

The film drags in the second act. It shouldn't have been a two hour film.
