Seems pretty straightforward to me. Paulo asks Mike how he handles those types of people. Mike thinks back to how he started treating Lucy, what he said to her, where that ended up going, how he kept flipping out after she came back, then their most recent interaction. Plenty reason for Mike to decide he's not good at handling such people. And of course he could also be thinking about Sandy as well since it sort of applies to how he handled her too. Failures all around on his part, at least in Mike's mind.

On one hand, I'm glad he's not officially so mature as the discord cult loves to insist. On the other, his obvious character flaws will not serve as the basis for any interesting character arc as this is BCB. Even before the post-Return nosedive, Paulo got hit with the reset button every other week.

Paulos behavior now makes me want to believe him asking Lucy if she wants him to ditch Mike forever was just rhetorical but his insistence means I know that's bullshit
