Care to explain why you feel that way ?

Superman should go back to fighting politicians dictators and rich business owners. The moment he stopped being a New Deal Vigilante all the energy sucked out of him

nigga ain't got a chance ain't Goku

Hey user

The shirt rip shot to reveal the costume will always be cool.

How this rogaal zoor from this comic book cover was called? I completly forgot.

Right, time to bust out the 'ol reliable.
What would happen if Clark landed in 2022?
Still same place (Kansas. The Kents). How would his life turn out?
There's no way the satellites wouldn't pick up on his ship, right?
Can the Kents even finesse Clark into the census?

So far I've read:
American Alien

All Star Superman

Red and Blue

Red Son

Superman Smashes the Clan.

Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow.

What good Superman books should I read next?

Whats the best way to go through post-Crisis Superman stories?

Superman Secret Identity, basically just if Superboy Prime was done right. Story was great, it looked kino as hell, and was an allaround feel good Superman story

>boring
There's no word that triggers Superfags harder

Goku lost.

Sorry but we're talking about Superman not DBZ or Spiderkek

Superman For All Seasons, and Secret Identity. Both are superkino.

I would absolutely love some more Golden Age Supes stories. My ideal Superman video game would be an open world 1930s Great Depression Metropolis where you start out with just super strength and jumping and get more powers as you go.

I genuinely like this moment more than the Batman one in Up to the Sky because it actually feels genuine for Oliver resorting to calling Clark in a personal time of need.

Action Comics 775: What’s so Funny About Truth, Justice and the American way.

Superman was selling more and the most beloved when his mythology exploded in the Silver Age

Otto Binder creating Supergirl, Kandor, Brainiac, Krypto, and other imaginative background characters was when he really exploded and became the top dog of the industry.

You know what happened when Superman’s entire lore had to be stripped away from him? They had to resort to murder him in the 90’s to boost sails.

Even the creators had him fighting gods and 5th dimensional imps.

Start with Man of Steel by John Byrne up until the end if his run.

After that its a collection of Dan Jurgens, Roger Stern, and Louis Simonson that continue where Byrne left off until Zero Hour, I think.

There is also Superman: Birthright and Superman: Secret Origins. Both of which used to be canonical origins to Superman. Although I think now Superman’s origin is closer to Dan Jurgens work.

At this point in time I'd say he's went back to being interesting simply for how rare pure characters are.

Yes, in the modern era of antiheroes and extremely flawed heroes, I find the simple earnestness of Superman very refreshing.

>There's no way the satellites wouldn't pick up on his ship, right?

You underestimate Kryptonian technology and Jor-El himself.

Jor El knew about Earth pretty well and understood the dangers himself.

He sometimes talked to the world’s leading scientists and handpicked exactly where he would land before hand.

In Elliot S Maggins work, Jor-El contacted Einstein to raise Kal-El, but Einstein handpicked Ma and Pa Kent specifically because of their humble origin because he didn’t want Clark to be raised poorly or in the spotlight.

Krypton is more advanced than Earth. There is definitely a cloaking device used here.

Exactly. Mind you, I say this as someone who generally prefers anti-heroes. But going that direction with Superman is a mistake, and takes away from makes him who he is.
I think Kingdom Come is more relevant than ever nowadays in that respect. There's an oversaturation of morally gray characterization, subversion, cynicism, and an attempt to mold Golden Age heroes into something more "hip and relatable", which is approached from the wrong angle, by all making them brooding assholes, or deeply flawed people, who give in to their vices.

Ironically, by trying to turn everyone into the same archetype, you also take away from the characters who ARE polarized, or have alternative means of dealing with crime and righting wrongs.

A straight laced Superman who is true to his original conception is the most fresh way to approach this character right now.

Kingdom Come has always been the Endgame of comic book media as far as I'm concerned. A return to where it all began.
If the cape fad ever dies, it should go out with a Kingdom Come type story as the closing chapter of the genre.

I miss Superbro

Yes!

After the first year or so it got kinda boring
>superman fights drunk drivers
Wow cool. No wonder Captain Marvel was selling better

Goku sells better than both

Everybody is recommending you modern, post-Crisis Superman comics. Which is fine, but you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you never check out any pre-Crisis stuff.
Some Silver Age highlights: Superman 123, 148, 149, 164, 167, 175, and 186.
These stories include the debut of Supergirl and the first Lex Luthor/Brainiac teamup, as well as several other miscellaneous stories I really enjoyed. The cool thing about Silver Age stories is they're all standalone, so you can really pick up any issue and enjoy it. These issues are just a starting point -- spend some time just going through issues of Superman, Action Comics, and World's Finest.
There's also the Bronze Age, which is more serious and tackles more real issues than the Silver Age, but largely retains the imaginative, unrealistic setting. Stories are still mostly standalone, and I just have one simple recommendation: any story by Elliot S! Maggin will be great. You can find his bibliography on Wikipedia.
Enjoy the comics!

At one point, they started putting a little triangle on every cover of Superman, Action Comics, and the Adventures of Superman, to make the reading order more clear.
This is commonly called the Triangle Era, and I believe it's when post-Crisis Superman really got good. Here is a full reading order:

>canonically a cuck
>has been raped
>has a gay son
when i say superman is, you say weaker than goku.
SUPERMAN IS

Have you read Grant Morrison's Action Comics? There was a lot of influence from the Golden Age incarnation, with him fighting many corrupt businessman and officials.

Attached: Action-Comics-1-Grant-Morrison.png (1038x1596, 2.64M)

Superman is done. Finished. Pack it up. Let it go. Move on. He doesn't appeal at all to young people. He doesn't appeal to adults. He represents the 'old' hokey image of America where a strong man in pajamas was the talk of the town but has been irrelevant since at least the 60's. His values are prehistoric. His powers are basic bitch. He is treated like a joke by his own company. Bury him. Consider it mercy.

Which superheroes do you like, user?

desuarchive.org/co/thread/129977593/#q129977593

Not during the 1940s

Yeah, it’s a good run. But I want real 1930s, not just influenced by (although it’s still cool, for sure).

The older I get the more i wish the Big 2 divorced a select handful of characters from the sliding timeline and put them in the era where historically they peaked; Superman and Batman in the Golden Age, Spider-Man in the 60's, Daredevil in the 80's etc

people here can talk about the 'unfettered imagination' and 'creativity' of the Silver Age but to me the whole era comes off as completely schizo

Attached: RCO014.jpg (927x1319, 711.52K)

For me, that imagination and creativity was from a select few comics and strips from the Golden Age.
During the Silver Age, it's more like they piled it on haphazardly.

>T.never read a Superman comic

Silver Age comics varied wildly. It really was unfettered creativity, and that meant that oftentimes the stories were really fucking stupid, but if you had a competent writer it would be imaginative stuff that wasn't totally dumb. You just have to filter through the bad stuff.

This panel legit freaked me out as a kid, I had a hard time looking at it at first.

How is Millar’s Superman? I’ve read the issues that were in the City of Tomorrow trades, but not much else beyond that. Also, what are some recs for someone who’s only read Last Son, All-Star, Red Son, and Death and Return?

>Superman Smashes the Clan.
I've had this sitting on my shelf for awhile now. I REALLY should go ahead and just read through it while I have the time this weekend.

I really wish DC would either put out an ongoing that's set in the early years of him being Superman where he goes around busting corrupt politicians and the far-right, or just puts out an ongoing alt continuity book that's the same shit. Like, come on.

Or at least dedicate Jon to the role. It'd be a smart thing to do, really.

They are doing plenty of fagged up commie shit with Superman already.

Explain this, Superfags.
