El Dorado is now South America's equivalent to Superman.
Not necessarily the exact same backstory and powers, but he's their main hero with the typical flying brick power set.

Make a Harvey Birdman style parody show with them

I don't want to be Greg Weisman

Explain me how these character racist again? Why is black lighting okay but not black Vulcan? I haven’t met a single actua Native American that got offended over Apache chief.
>El Dorado is now South America's equivalent to Superman.
He should’ve been apart of the mainstream DC universe like wonder twins…

Young Justice already did a good reinvention of them (before they turned one of them gay)

The problem with Apache Chief is his name. Native Americans are comprised of countless tribes with different customs, and get butthurt whenever they’re lumped under a single name. But the real issue is that DC knows they’re not a demographic worth catering to given how small their revenue is.

His modern name of Longshadow works well enough.

>Explain me how these character racist again?
Who said they were?
>I haven’t met a single actua Native American that got offended over Apache chief.
How many native americans have you met? How many who even know that the character exists?

In the current age?
It would be something shitty like this:

>El Dorado is the Venezuelan Superman
>Grew into the Chavez regime and drank the KoolAid, being used as a figure like Stalin did with the Red Son
>Hated Superman, seeing him as the maximum figure of American imperialism and all that jazz
>Eventually they team up, and while he still does not trust Superman, he kinda realizes they're more similar than he thought and part in amicable ways

More modern costumes and some name changes

Black Vulcan can just go by Vulcan but the others need more changes

>How do you ho about it?

Santa's helpers

Vulkan isn't really needed we don't need another black guy with lightning.

So you just not going to acknowledge Samurai, huh? Alao, I remember people complaining that Vulcan was an obvious Black Lightning clone. To the point that Isabella straight up called HB thieves. Nothing about him being racist.

Vulcan was created because they couldn't use Black Lightning on the show, he's literally a direct copy

Been done.

>Who said they were?
Youtube e-celeb went after them for sometime now for supposedly being racist.
>How many native americans have you met?
I work as a dentist assistant near tribal land.
>How many who even know that the character exists?
They watched television like everyone else.
>The problem with Apache Chief is his name.
That could easily be fixed by renaming him chief hawk or just chief..

>Explain me how these character racist again?
Who the hell says that? Some of their themes fall back on ethnic stereotypes (why would a professor in Japan get wind powers and name himself Samurai?) but mostly they're just campy, like PoC in a Pride parade.
Give El Dorado golden armor, cover the legs and man-cleavage on Samurai and Apache Chief and give Tony Isabella royalties for Black Electric Guy and they're pretty OK.

Oh I’m cool with Longshadow. I want the JLU version canon

>Apache Chief
I just change the outfit and hire a native writer to deal with it.

>Black Vulcan
Change the name or powerset because Vulcan's the god of fire.

>Samurai
he was wind powers, right? slap some technology or armor on there and give him a new name and they work for japan's samurai division or whatever.

>El Dordado
make him solid fucking gold

there. hire me discovery channel.

>So you just not going to acknowledge Samurai, huh?
If samurai was a white guy Yea Forums would calling him racist too. HB was ahead of it’s time by making samurai Japanese.

Why did they stick around when the rest didn't?

>He should’ve been apart of the mainstream DC universe like wonder twins…
Was that not obvious? In my version he'd just mainly be a South American hero the regular ones would sometimes encounter for one reason or another.

Where's the French Tickler?

Incest fun times

I can only assume because their an easy joke

>Youtube e-celeb went after them for sometime now for supposedly being racist.
So not OP, not anyone in this thread, and no one we should pay attention to? Why even bring it up?

Batman takes over Gotham full bat police city

Superman is now task with making an undercover team to infiltrate Gotham. He chooses a group of young heroes.

>Explain me how these character racist again?
Objectively, they're not. On the sheer basis of them as characters, there's nothing racially disparaging about them. By every measure they're heroes who are portrayed every bit as capable and noble as Batman or Superman in Superfriends. They save the day same as anyone else and they contribute and have their voices heard in the meetings scenes. They defeat villains without killing them same as everyone else and are always there if anyone is ever in danger. They're not overly sarcastic, bitter or cruel to anyone, and they seem to treat their fellow heroes with respect and are respected in turn. By every objective measure that can be gauged, they're not "Racist caricatures", as they hold none of the negative stereotypes and all of the positive traits, so to assume they came from a place of "This race is inferior" doesn't measure up.

It's a weird case where people are ready to assume something is racist because of the optics alone, and don't know or don't care that the actual context behind them does not fit that label. The most anyone can find is some of them have accents, and that cannot be measured as thinking that accent inferior when nobody in universe treats their opinions any lesser than any other.

Truly, it's just the names that people have a problem with, and really you will never find a better example of the victimhood mentality than "I don't care that they're portrayed as positively as anyone else, that non-slur name is too offensive to me."

>So you just not going to acknowledge Samurai, huh?
What's racist about Samurai? He's an asian character and portrayed positively, and his costume is pretty similar to multiple superfriends heroes. If you just take the name but none of the character that it was connected to you are literally the retard that people who said "Don't judge a book by its cover" warned us about.

>Apache Chief
Do the young justice version of him but hire some actual native american actors as consultants and try to actually have him earn the title of Apache Chief.

>Black Vulcan
Doesn't need that much changed about him. But maybe have him show up as the original Black Lightning or in a Static movie as the original black lightning power superhero.

>Samurai
I don't know enough about him to say how he should be handled. But Justice League had a version of him that is a good place to start if you're looking for inspiration.

>El Dorado
What said

>What's racist about Samurai? He's an asian character and portrayed positively
It's the accent the way he talks. He talk 'rike he no speak engrish good' and for a lot of Asians and Asian Americans who were bullied in school for not speaking english well thats a real deal breaker.

I change Vulkan's costume to not be sued by Marvel for ripping off Wolverine. Do nothing else.

>Explain me how these character racist again?
Americans love getting upset in behalf of other countries.

Voiced by a white dude. Not okay after 2020

we'll make him Italian then so he can say "EEEEY IMMA DA SAMURAI, WHERS MY SAMURAI SWORD, I SLICEA DA BAD GUYS BABA BOOEY BABA BOOEY GABAGOOL."

I think McDuffie had the right idea about using them as a rival group for the JL. I think them being a smaller, globe-trotting hero group that The Wonder Twins run into would be a good idea given their new place in DC Canon. It would help build up a more consistent side-cast for them, and if they're successful enough off of that they can get their own titles. Worst case scenario, one-two issue arc intro and forcefully shoved into the background for future event comics.

Italians don't really care for Mario for the same reasons asian people don't care for Fu Manchu.

They are all pro wrestlers. Black Vulcan is actually Black Lightening but he took up the new identity because he lost a bet with El Dorado. The old suits are their wrestling garb but I'd have the artist play around with redesigns for hero duties.

>I haven’t met a single actua Native American
I don't blame you, no one has, but other groups take the oppression credits they would legitimately deserve

These characters were in Young Justice and JLU. Shitty bait thread.

I've been to a few native american reservations in my time. Some of them are relatively well off thanks to the Casinos, others are basically giant Trailer parks.

To correct myself only one of these characters was in the JLU and one of them cameoed in The Lego Movie. That's not even including recent comic appearances.

More versatile powerset gives them more opportunities for jokes

The defintion of racism changes constantly.

LOL. Theres' nothing wrong with Samurai either.

Samurai doesn't even need that. At most a better outfit.

funny enough the english writer that came up with fu manchu died due to the late 1950s flu pandemic aka the asian flu

... that white dude died of old age and actual Mexicans didn't complain about the original voice. With a VA of Mexican heritage it's a double moot point.

There's also the fact that the definition of racisim changes constantly by completely arbirtrary reasons. We see cutting edge progressive ideas become racist again and again, and people seem suprised at the outcome.

I contend there is NO depiction that can be created that some future generation will not find racist.

>Samurai doesn't even need that. At most a better outfit.
"Samurai want pants too."

It's erasure to make everyone fucking fluent in english as well though. You fucking racist.

I would mark out for that.

Oh, lets CULTURALLY ENRICH the motherfuckers. Sure, there's traditional japanese samurai pants, the hakama. But a VERY traditional outfit for the era is the fundoshi. which is LESS pants. A literal loincloth. Or go with the Sumo wresler version.

You can't spell "fundoshi" without "fun".

They really need to just make Longshadow canon already
Because they're awesome that's why

Hey an entire generation of kids learned moon runes to watch a Japanese kid go around and trap animals to then make them fight each other. And the last time I checked the last samurai was offically Tom Cruise. So I understand your struggle.

Lots of Mexicans consider themselves white

wasn't chief in wonder woman, and canonically a demi-god according to the director?

>El dorado
A tomb raider, nickname El dorado for exploring lost cities.

>Black Vulcan
A game developer working on a viking game. The company actually borrowed some artefacts for research purposes. Accidentally he mistook Thor's actual belt for an ordinary belt giving him lightning pants powers

Samurai is a Japanese construction worker, who one day destroys an unmarked samurai grave. Now a samurai spirit is tethered to him until he completes 100 noble deeds. Also he can his wrench into an ancient samurai blade

Apache Chief is a tester at a new company called Ino Chuk. Something something his able to mind meld with a giant mech suit. Sorry I'm tired

No
Fuck off with that shit

I liked the Young Justice show's take on Apache Chief.

More iconic.

Love this

I can't believe Star Trek stole from DC...

I regret nothing.

Fundoshi pic. Spoilered because it's the minimum standard of pants, and therefore the minimum amount of worksafe.

THIS is what Samurai's new pants should be.
