It's far from the worst relationship. It's a step up from Adventure Time and Regular Show where it got ultra cringe and way out of character just to create drama rather than just hold a stable relationship. It does get weird though and it's hard to separate fusion from getting physical when we're looking at kids. The lets fuse forever thing can be written off as Steven not knowing how relationships work due to his magical upbringing but that like 5 episode arc of them fighting is a really bad run of episodes.
