Moon Knight Storytime #58

It's been a week since I did one of these, that means a new episode in a few hours. I'm covering Moench's minis from the 90's this time

Including this because I didn't nor do I plan to ever cover the Death of Marc Spector arc from Marc Spector Moon Knight. Why? Because the lead up to it and the reasons and just everything is terrible and it makes me mad just thinking about it. Just know that he did in fact blow himself up and that he was dead for awhile

It's also been a hot minute since I actually read these, and I forgot that I actually quite like the art style

Moench is such a nerd

Attached: mktrw-01-003.jpg (1200x1860, 434.78K)

bump

It's actually interesting to compare Moench's writing from this mini to the original 80's run. It's changed, and so far, for the better imo

Imagine if this mini got a digital remaster. It's so colorful

Attached: mktrw-01-008.jpg (1200x1860, 410.5K)

Attached: mktrw-01-009.jpg (1200x1860, 501.69K)

Attached: mktrw-01-010.jpg (1200x1860, 515.63K)

Attached: mktrw-01-011.jpg (1200x1860, 483.74K)

A sort of revisiting of all of Moonie's rogue gallery from Moench's run and a brief run down

Attached: mktrw-01-012.jpg (1200x1860, 507.3K)

Attached: mktrw-01-013.jpg (1200x1860, 482.26K)

yeah this mini is definitely one of the more Dreamlike moon knight stories

>Imagine if this mini got a digital remaster. It's so colorful
I am kinda baffled why this mini has not been rereleased on places like ComiXology the comic is quite good as an introduction to moon knight.

I really like it, but I can't see MCU using this mini as the basis for the inevitable dream sequence in the show. They seem to be fully committed to using the Lemire run

Oh no, it's a killer rabbit
It costs money to remaster, though if the 1985 Fist of Khonshu mini could get a digital remaster, there is hopes for this one as well

Attached: mktrw-01-016.jpg (1200x1860, 304.41K)

That's one hell of an entrance

Attached: mktrw-01-017.jpg (1200x1860, 524.6K)

Sort of the opposite of the events of how he was revived in the origin story. The stature brings him to the feet of Marlene and she helps revive him this time

Attached: mktrw-01-018.jpg (1200x1860, 551.68K)

Moench's dream-like surrealism firing all cylinders

Attached: mktrw-01-019.jpg (1200x1860, 488.01K)

Attached: mktrw-01-020.jpg (1200x1860, 452.88K)

how much time happened between this mini and the end of the last run? 3-4 years?

Man, if adapted this would be so trippy, like the dream sequences in Legion

Attached: mktrw-01-021.jpg (1200x1860, 488.74K)

This mini is from 1998. Marc Spector Moon Knight ended in 1994. 4 years. Though the minis mostly served as a way to reset Moon Knight and bring him back

Attached: mktrw-01-022.jpg (1200x1860, 518.25K)

It's nice to have you back Moon Knight

Attached: mktrw-01-023.jpg (1200x1860, 486.06K)

so one year in Marvel time then at least Marc missed out on onslaught and heroes reborn it was probably for the best.

It fells pretty up to date, actually. It's pretty nice looking.

Part two of Resurrection War!
Well the best part about this mini is that writers could start using him again. He was quite beloved internally apparently. Heck shortly after the minis Priest used Moon Knight in Black Panther

Keeping this because why not?

Attached: mktr-02-001a.jpg (2200x1719, 908.37K)

It's obvious the colorist is doing it digitally but the inker is doing it traditionally. It's hitting this weird between where both are clearly classically trained so the shadows and colors aren't washed out and samey looking. This style is probably something we'd see from this very small window in the 90's

Attached: mktr-02-002.jpg (1200x1860, 468.79K)

But damn does it look good

Attached: mktr-02-003.jpg (1200x1860, 487.17K)

Attached: mktr-02-004.jpg (1200x1860, 434.72K)

Every time Moench writers these two are together I can almost taste the sadness and melancholy in the air

Attached: mktr-02-005.jpg (1200x1860, 478.54K)

I always like this interpretation of moon copter more like VTOL fighter jet

Attached: mktr-02-006.jpg (1200x1860, 538.31K)

Colours are pretty smart chosen, for a book into the early stages of digital colouring (which was often awful). And I guess that helps a little, too.

You can tell that Moench is going down a check list of things while introducing things to new readers. Oh well, the pacing doesn't suffer from it

Attached: mktr-02-008.jpg (1200x1860, 499.01K)

why does Marc yell out load Cresent Dart when he is about to throw it? I don't remember him doing that before, comes off as kind of silly.

Attached: mktr-02-009.jpg (1200x1860, 540.75K)

Coming from DC fan here, Scarlett seems like a weird mix of Huntress and Red Hood. Nice.

see my previous comment

Crawley is such a bro. He's already appeared in the show so I'm just waiting to hear him actually talk now. I want to know if he's just as long winded as he is in the comics

Attached: mktr-02-011.jpg (1200x1860, 558.07K)

Oh right, after Moon Knight Moench worked on Batman. Heh

Attached: mktr-02-012.jpg (1200x1860, 519.54K)

Crowley I'm guessing was the living statue guy in the show?

Yep.

Hm, I guess they decided to retcon the fact that Morpheus was cured to keep the events of Fist of Khonshu canon

Attached: mktr-02-013.jpg (1200x1860, 578.4K)

well fuck

Early age digital coloring, but this page basically shows how smartly the colors are chosen. Basic color theory and still coloring like it's a comic book!

Attached: mktr-02-016.jpg (1200x1860, 614.62K)

Nice colours, really nice.

Attached: mktr-02-017.jpg (1200x1860, 465.72K)

Absolutely.
Reminds me a lot of Batman: The Cult, and that one was traditional colours yet.

Edwards seems to go for the more Mad max costume compared to some artists who went for the more black knight look.

Moonie losing round one in his dream
It's the original Mad Max inspired costume so yeah. Plus I think at this point of time Black Spectre didn't have a different costume yet

killer bunny at it again
