Also, in general this book does a lot of explaining and not a lot of showing. For a visual medium it's really disappointing.

Supporting cast, mostly people to talk, and since they've got some clout to back it up as former Batgirls, it makes a selling point to some people. Don't need to do much, just there as a supporting cast.

And to make matters worse, I still don't know what Cass' and Steph's deal even supposed to be. Babs at least has something resembling a personality in this ongoing, while Cass and Steph are just... there. They are two hollow cardboard cutouts and I don't care about them in the slightest. And this book is supposed to showcase how cool they are as Batgirls. So far, it's Babs that's cool.

We literally didn't. Steph just announced to Babs one day "we're Batgirls now, deal with it" and that was it. They weren't even that close prior to IF retcons.

Don’t be dense. *Their* books were made for the purpose of showcasing them as characters. This one was made for the purpose of trying to salvage the diminishing returns of the Batgirl brand by marketing to tween girls.

They already did that with Babs few years ago, with better results.

What book are you even talking about? Certainly not Castellucci, Scott’s immediate successor, and Batgirl and the Birds of Prey ended well before Scott took over.

Someone who has no sense of story whatsoever. Why should I even care about Cass and Steph as Batgirls if they pretty much took the mantle at random with no prior buildup?

Her kids are in trouble

They saw Gotham getting worse, recognized the symbol as a necessary tool in changing that, decided “fuck it, no one gave Batman permission,” and took it. The exact same thing Babs did. But, in fact, with significantly more build up, since they spent years of publication clearly wanting to be Batgirls, but waiting for the right time.

The narraration boxes would’ve been better if they were less meta and were just like Steph’s old monologues. It’s a big part of her character that’s missing here.

A return to the diary format would’ve been cute, with it now alternating between them maybe. Cass could probably use the writing practice.

I mean her character itself is a forerunner for cancellation, that's why she keeps getting rebooted. She seems to have found her niche as Nightwing's cocksleeve though.
