Reaching Out was more than Lumity episode, it handled parental plotlines with Amity and Luz which I loved it.

The problem isn't the school itself, is how they used it. I'd have liked if Bump didn't let her join in directly but she still could enter thanks to some underground comunity club or ilusion magic shenaningans instead of straight up making the rules meaningless.

My issue was never with what was happening but what wasn't happening, and S2 fixed that. The school is a great framing device now and offers tons of insight into the world and its systems, imagine either of the Hunter episodes without the school and how it was used to introduce concepts and youth culture, and how Hunter contrasted with them.

It would be so much better. It just keeps getting worse episode after episode
