I agree that my assumed characterization seems to have been off, I'd thought he was going to be a suave charmer with a goofy side, now he looks a lot more sinister especially with his stated threat at the end.

Don't need a whole foundry, just need a machine shop. You can get very far with many things with a metal lathe and making your own tools.
