True.

this thread again?

I wonder how much money the comic book industry would save if they stopped with the fancy prints and multiple variant covers for every single issue, and just did what manga do with the actual paperback black and white volumes

Do variant covers still make money? Don't people realize by now they're useless?

Some of them are click bait.

Acab

All comics are bad

but then how will editors mentally disabled friends whose brains only function enough where they can get a job using crayons going to survive?

Let the covers still be color

Its certainly had diminishing returns, but Marvel and Dc have sort of written themselves into a corner because their biggest audience thats left are the comic shop nerds that do care about things like variant covers. Its not enough to save their industry, but they also can't survive if they stop doing it before they come up with a model thats actually successful.

Lady Death is pretty much a variant cover business. Their Kickstarters do well every time.

I like them for personal use. Like if I'm going to buy a floppy might as be one with a cover I like, especially if the shop has options.

Make them black and white and cut the price in half. It's working for manga.

I feel like it can't happen for comics right not because a lot of current comic artists wouldn't survive in a black and white environment, they rely on color too to fix their flaws.

Characters like Batman could get away with it sure but you would be missing out on some amazing art if they all become black and white. Indie comics and lesser known characters should be black and white but they big two should strive to create something more impressive with all of their resources while indie comics and manga offer a cheaper experience

We don't read manga for the art though, that would be like reading Harry Potter for the prose. It's just a story telling vessel and isn't designed to be impressive like western comics

>We don't read manga for the art though
>isn't designed to be impressive like western comics
kek you're delusional

>We don't read manga for the art though
Shut the fuck up, idiot

>impressive like western comics
One Punch man shits all over all comics in terms of art.

>doing a weeb webcomic
>tried to do it in black and white like my mangoes for the longest time but failed to get traction
>switched to basic colors and instantly got a boost
That's just how western audiences treat western products

Cope.

>culling shit artists
this is a bad thing why?

Not all of them but yeah, it'd be comfy. Make 'em cheaper, too. You can sell colored editions later if you want.

Wow that is just crazy art right there bro really ground breaking stuff so unique you can really see the effort and craftmanship that went into these character designs and into each panel

Is this bait?

is this ?

Considering that the manga can be compiled into a movie...yeah it's kind of more impressive than anything printed by Marvel or DC.

Didn’t Jim Lee admit he hates it but they’d lose out on half of all of their sales if they got rid of them?

go into your display settings and turn the saturation all the way down

problem solved

No, they shouldn’t. You should go read manga and stick to Yea Forums.

They cost nothing more than the normal one. Unless it’s a tiered one which I never buy. If the variant looks better or is an artist I like I get it. Simple as.

He’s right you’re just in denial. Black and white scribbles aren’t art. Not every western comic is cape shit.

This is the most autistic shit ever, idc about colored or black and white comics, same thing applies to movies. As long as it looks good who cares. Jesus christ man.

>he actually thinks that manga actually use black and white as an artistic statement and not because it's much cheaper to go without colorists

doesnt matter why they do it the fact is mang art looks better than marvel/dc art. manga artists also use speed lines and such to their advantage so the art ends up looking more dynamic and kinetic. Every Marvel/DC comic has fights that look extremely static characters are just posed to look like they're punching fight scenes and action in manga look WAY better

I've got a question, how am I supposed to read fight scenes in manga and comics? They're always just static images to me like the rest of the book. Do I read them quickly to create an illusion of motion?

>doesnt matter why they do it the fact is mang art looks better than marvel/dc art.
Why lie? It's fine that it is cheap and fast, it doesn't have to look as good user not everything is a competition. Manga art is cheap quick and dirty but it still looks nice and there is a lot of skill involved in drawing something that consistently good so quickly

I think black and white comics should be more common, so many comics have been ruined by shitty colorists defacing good lineart and inking

You already had this thread. You do realize having high quality posts is a global rule, right? Or do you have alseigmers and fucking forgot your last discussions?

You flip them, duh.

>ANOTHER east vs west thread
big sigh

Not him, but consider how dynamic these two pages are despite covering relatively few actions. The only person not in motion is the one that is sitting down the entire time.

Go back if you can't fucking respect the rules. It's not fucking hard to hold a conversation without posting shit pictures of same face syndrome

There's plenty that are.
As for the ones that aren't idk guess that's what they wanna do go send an email to them to convince them.

Comics should either be painted or only in ink.
Seethe.

Notice how the use of motion lines, and more importation the way that empty space cuts through them, is used to convey motion in terms of direction as well as extreme force. This is undeniably more dynamic than two buff dudes standing in the street with their arms pulled back behind their heads to throw haymakers, which is how most cape fights are drawn as.

I have not posted the tip top of manga fights. I have not invoked the name of prestigous, reknowned mangaka. This is from a comedy porn mag by an artist who is doing his first solo work as far as anyone can tell with no previous credits. And thats still better than all but the very best of comics fights in terms of conveying action.

Stop breaking the rules with a picture with zero focal points and is just compositional vomit with a traced poser model dislocating their kicking while sitting. I get they take shortcuts because they have to make chapters everyday, but this is Yea Forums. Fuck off

> No one can draw without tracing! Its just not possible!

You are embarrassing yourself

Its because comics have fewer pages to work with to convey the expositional vomit story they need to explain why Batman is fighting an elder god this weekend, so the fights are supposed to convey several minutes of implied combat in just a few panels. Manga, meanwhile, focuses on the blow by blow, so the flow of the fight matters heavily to them.

Your average Jojo fight or MHA battle is simply more complicated than Superman's fights are.

Also most writers only get 5 issues while in manga each fight can last 8 or more.
Each fight. Not arc.

Yeah, thats a big part of it. The short runtime means that every page counts a LOT, so you can't afford to dedicate too much page space to pure combat.
Especially since you need to devote a lot of time this issue to explaining the backstory of the guy who made the universe 10 seconds earlier than the LAST creator god that was said to be responsible for everything in the endless cosmic escalation.
There simply isn't any incentive for western comics to be good at conveying fight choreography, because thats not what they need to deliver on. If they were given more space to work with they might get more creative, but with a tight page count efficiency is more important.

>Better strawman since I have no real argument
Kek

western comics BTFO

Since they'll always be still images you can take however long you want to absorb in the moment,
but time length in panel to panel will always vary by how long the creator intends them to be and usually you'll understand the intent maybe even without you really thinking about it.

As for whether you prefer action to action time difference or a second to second time difference , or if you prefer action shown in dynamic poses or more of a visual of the motion, or ANY detail of the design
Is deep down to tastes. Even if something is objectively better it doesn't mean it is the right or only way to do it.

>There simply isn't any incentive for western comics to be good at conveying fight choreography
That's because you're only looking at the big two
If you were to look at other comic companies like Dark Horse, Image, IDW, and Boom, you'll see that your statement falls flat due to not looking at enough comics

Only good artists can be trusted to make monochromatic comics. Big cape publishers have next to none.

t.buttblasted capeshit lover
LMAO tie your cape to your ceiling fan BITCH!

Focal points are rather clear non.

Face, foot, impact.

Also, the manga artist don't trace like comic artists do, he streams a lot of his drawings. Everything is drawn from scratch.

youtube.com/watch?v=ivaLCkqDWJc

Holy cope

Any monkey could draw like that lol, the art isn't what is impressive here

user what if I told you in the last month there have been over 20 threads of black and white comics to enjoy?

Attached: Screenshot_20220324-085717-448.png (672x494, 518.9K)

Drawing dynamic is a lot more difficult than drawing stale poses.

There's a reason manga outsells comics.

Black and white for everything is boring though, might as well stop drawing faces or skipping panels all together if you aren't going to finish the picture. Black and White works when it's an intentional design choice to suit the story can be pure kino but besides Batman and a few others comic characters deserve colour. If black and white was so good anime wouldn't be coloured either, manga is just designed to be cheap an disposable

>Complaining the lack of black and white comics that already exist
Stop living under a rock. Truth is black and white comics are extremely unpopular. You probably never heard of Terry Moore

Because it's cheap and easily accessible and not woke? You don't think people are buying it for the art do you? I read both user and there are definitely better examples of Manga art than that

Manga are comics and they sell well, but I guess they are more devoid of colour instead of being intentionally black and white like comics

Some of them, sure. Depends on the context.
Spectre is so kino bros.
